- LIVE COURT CAM: MA v. #KarenRead - DAY 12 - Testimony continues in the murder trial of Karen Read. Read is accused of murdering her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, whose body was found in the snow outside of another Boston officer’s home in Canton, Massachusetts.
Prosecutors allege Read hit O’Keefe with her car and left him to die in the snow. But Read’s defense team says she never hurt O’Keefe and that she is being framed by the true killers, who may have been inside the house where his body was found.

I think that the defense HAS ALREADY PROVEN REASONABLE DOUBT, and frankly, that’s their only job. It’s up to the Commonwealth to prove guilt, and they haven’t done that! Jurors aren’t idiots. If we see through the lies and inconsistencies, they do too!!! THAT is the point!!

Yeah I have no doubt. Others might. We know what’s coming. The defence are trying to play twisty. It doesn’t work on me but may work on others.
Trial isn’t even halfway through so of course the case isn’t proven yet… there’s still a lot of evidence to come. This is why a jury isn’t allowed to deliberate until the entire case is presented… you don’t get to just watch the first 1/3 of the trial and then say “not enough evidence.”
You have it backwards lol. Reasonable doubt is what the defense has to inject into the commonwealth’s case. The prosecution is the one who has to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

He remembers brake lights from 2 years ago, but when asked if he talked to his sister about their mom picking her up he says “ it was 2 years ago” funny how that works huh?
Kind of like all the Alberts remembering the exact order everyone came in and left and who was there and where they sat but they don't remember anything else from that night
@@December2013 at this point unless there’s a smoking gun yet to be unleashed it seems like Read will be found not guilty by reasonable doubt. That entire canton police force along with all the people involved need to be investigated. There’s no way they’re that inept to the the point they make inspector clouseau look like Sherlock Holmes

I’ve never heard this many prosecutors witnesses, in Any trial, saying ‘Can you rephrase that?’ Talk about being ‘coached’! And every prosecutor witness looks at Lalley when the defense asks questions on cross to see if he is going to Object! This is insane!
That’s bc you have no experience in trials or examining witnesses. The times witnesses have said that, is bc the question wasn’t clear as worded. Witnesses are always told- by both sides- if you don’t understand a question, ask to repeat or rephrase the question. It’s a standard ground rule.

I had to give a deposition once and my lawyer told me to look at him to verify whether he would object or not prior to answering questions.
MR. LALLY NEEDS TO SPEAK UP! ugh, he is so hard to hear and one of the witnesses asked him to speak up twice. Judge has never asked him to speak louder but has asked more than one to speak into the mic. Judge has also reprimanded some on defense side for answering “yup” or “mhm”, but not once to anyone on prosecution side. Same thing for “Don’t say what you heard, but what actually happened”…she is one sided. She is always rushing the defense and shutting down important questions.

Yeah Well I’m sure the 3 people behind knew that there was going to be a dead man a massive trial that night. They just knew the car was running. Karen among her 4 or 5 different stories said that she got there dropped him off and then sat out front for 10 mins. More like she sat with him for ten minutes before killing.

He said "I was bound to mess it up" referring to Ricky's last name. Prosecution and defense struggled multiple times to say his last name. Hope this helps 🙂
@@mandyb3509 but it was several seconds after he already said it. The whole name. And I get the impression that they never saw Karen driving from the direction that they claim she came… That was all fabricated to make it seem like Karen pulled up to the house from that side and a three-point turn was made after she dropped off John… But in reality she came from the other direction, those three kids in the car never saw her at that intersection, and Karen made the three-point turn before pulling up to the front of the house and letting John out of the car. Which is another reason why Jen McCabe wanted to get all of the messages from that girl that was getting picked up so she could create her perfect little scenario.
They got the q-tips for the dna swab from the same neighbor cop that gave them the red solo cups

They had attitudes with the defense and the jury will see that. Only two people only two people have reported being harassed. is a difference when I say all the witnesses have attitudes meaning all of them

Normally when either side objects during a trial, they have to justify the objection ..... "Objection, leading. Objection, heresay" ect. This is the first trial I've ever seen where the lawyers dont have to justify their objection. Anyone know why?
I started to read comments while prosecutor asks the same 20 questions to each witness 😅 Anyway, on another day of the trial, some of the commenter's were saying the judge instructed them not to say a justification. I don't know if that's true, or why (if it is true). Hope that helps 🙂

I've never seen a judge initiate so many sidebars. also since when can a prosecutor object without a qualifier??? and then the judge allow it and sustain without one! what is going on?
Maybe educate yourself on the case & then you would know. The judge ordered that BOTH sides are to object only, and not state the grounds for the objection, and that if more info was needed they would go sidebar. This is bc many attorneys (defense & prosecution) engage in improper speaking objections that can often cross the line into the attorneys “testifying.” It muddies the waters. Better to have a clean trial with clean objections.

That was about the pronunciation of the last name.
Definitely was Lally that said that in response to whatever it was the female that sits right next to him said right before it. I listened a couple times but couldn’t understand what she said.

I feel like I would have mentioned that.. neither he nor Ally mentions that Nicole and Brian Sr. were home when Ally picked up Colin. Isn’t that what Nicole said? So if Colin was coming outside when Ally was there, shouldn’t they have all been in the driveway at the same time? How did Nicole not know who picked up Colin?
Was John O'Keefe's arm itself swabbed as he could had his sleeves pulled up when he received those marks on this arm. I do that all the time myself with long sleeves if I get warm.

Because everyone heard her say it and the point was made. No need to give her an opportunity to “explain” what she meant. I’m sure it will be noted for closing arguments. They may even quote it.

@@Kaykay-nn8yd She’s a witness for the prosecution so it’s not a defense tactic. She said he was there and the defense can now use her statement. The defense doesn’t have to prove a theory either. The only thing they need is reasonable doubt which the prosecution continues to help provide. So far, there has been zero evidence that Karen hit John.

I don't believe either side have proven either of their theories so far.
However, as Vinnie Politan has said, defence seems to be throwing spaghetti aka pointing the finger at many diffrent people (Colin, Brian H etc).
I really think a better defence theory (seeing as they have chosen to have one), would have been that an altercation had occurred outside the residence with someone who had been inside previously. Leaving JO beaten in the snow.

@@theghostofrethsich2813 I'm watching a few cases atm, can you remind me how much blood was on JO? I'm just thinking if it wasn't significant, more so a bloody mouth/nose plus the arm scratches, it could be possible a few punches to the head, might only throw splatters of blood. Perhaps someone grabbed said glass, fight starts, a few slashes are made before punches are thrown. JO gets knocked down and is too disorientated to get back up, drifts in and out and ultimately freezes to death.
She is a decent actress. Notice how she rarely looks at the Jurors during all questioning.
Except cue the "The Door has been opened, ill allow it" questions on harassment. She then looks directly at the jurors and wells up some amber tears (no tears). The staring at the jury along with the facial expressions and the "Cant I have a moment" was well played buy her and I think she scored points with the jury.
Of course no door was really opened for it. But that does not matter if you have biased Ref/Judge

BUT:(!) The Family Circle App on her phone says she went to the vicinity of her home. She didn't stop though. Then she was zooming back & forth to the vicinity of the high school and other places, and finally arriving home around 1:30-ish. WHAT?!?!?

So the prosecution can mention how the defenses motion to preserve Alberts phone was denied, but the defense can't mention a lab tech failed her qualifications when the DNA chick said she assumed the crime lab knew what they were doing? That seems balanced
That is a lot of stress for these young people to handle. That pretty young McCabe girl was so well spoken but the harassment question brought her raw emotions out but she recovered quickly for a 20-year-old person.
And that is the defence exact goal.Intimidate witnesses in the hope that somebody does something that leads to a mistrial.
@@maanmohammad8459 I have never watched a trial like this one where the Defense appears to be using the same tactics that detectives have used that have led suspects to confess to crimes they did not commit. The Defense Attorneys are making statements and then trying to get the witnesses to agree with those statements. A lot of these witnesses are very young adults but they appear to be handling the situation.
Agreed. These young witnesses have been very impressive & held their own under intense questioning/badgering. I hope the conclusion of this trial brings closure to all parties, no matter how the jury rules.

I really don’t like this defense attorney at all. I hope she’s guilty because of him and his harassment of Jennifer McCabe. Look man it’s simple, she told you she did it from the start. All this questioning is just a distraction!
