Athens Priority Pass Lounge | Sleeping at transit before lounge opening

Are we allowed to sleep overnight at Athens International Airport? Where can we sleep at for long layovers?
We joined many others travelers searching for the answer to this same question when we found ourselves - as budget travelers - with an 8h 10min layover at Athens International Airport arriving at 11.35pm from Santorini, scheduled to depart for Tirana, Albania at 8.05am the next day.
After spending a few hours catching some sleep at the transit area, we entered the Schengen zone, Goldair Handling CIP Lounge, which is accessible to Priority Pass holders. This lounge marks our entrance to the world of travel hacking, and it couldn't be at a better timing!
