Hey smokey. Love the video!! Not sure if you did the most recent (and most definitely intense) repair on my broken neck, but Joe Martin said he did make a video on that repair as well. Id love to see it!!!!
Is there any reason to not be concerned about the sound-post moving while the string tension is off . Thanks for the great vid , I'm glad the dog made sure you were doing it right .
yes it is a ply top on a solid carved top I only use hide glue... almost always rabbit but on occasion I have used horse hide glue Thank You and Many Blessings...SMR
Is that a plywood top? If so, I guess using aliphatic resin glue would be ok. I wouldn't use it ever with a carved top though. I was taught that way, as a solid wood bass moves around so much with seasonal changes, the glue needs to be able to release instead of cracking the top or back if the stress gets so great. In any case, thanks for your informative vids.
It is an 80 model Shen not the most prestigious bass and it is constructed out of a plasti glue, and since that vid was posted we have had to re-glue the bass bar ... so the top has been off. As for professional shop how many fiddles have you carved sir?
Yes do to some personal issues I did not repair your Bass this time .. But I did all the others... Check your youtube PM... more info there... Many Blessings , SMR
+Oleschool62 ...No Sir... The easiest way is to steam it out . Use a small Pyrex Flask, rubber tubing cork, tubiing and a sports needle (to inflate balls) cut or grind the tip of the sports needle connect all the parts add heat source , create steam and standered wood glue will quickly melt away ... as long as it is not plasticized ... it is water soluble ... many Blessings and Good Luck , SMR
if the sound post is properly cut and fitted your sound post should not move as long as you don't beat her around to much.... But if you release the tension and it fall almost immediatelyit can be a broken or loose brace or a poorly fitted post Many Blessings...SMR
so you-re not using hide glue ... uh ... now, that-s a tough decision ... just lets hope that the top never has to be lifted another time ... if so: your follower is in deep shit ... I'd rather be paying for a professional repair than having my instrument be sealed forever ...
