Just took my almost non functioning 70's Peavey Musician 400 head into a local, very old, audio tech guy/genius.........$90 kiwi bux l8r and it's ready to crank out wallz of deafness for another 50 years- u amp doctorz R O C K!😁🤘
Another "excellent used amp" from GC. Good job bringing it back to life, but it should have been repaired before selling it to a customer. I swear there will only be two things left alive at the end of times; cockroaches and Peavey amps....
I have an 800 series amp super festival series 800-g that i got when i was 15 i have schematics on everything but the foot switch. have you ever figured that out? thanks
Thank you. My friend just inherited a vintage 1971 Peavey 300 bass amp with an additional standard head. Unfortunately he is experiencing unwanted distortion regardless of the input jack or head used. He suspects the previous owner may have modified something in order to produce a constant distortion. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts/comments on how he could get his amp working as designed, i.e., no distortion. Thanks and Semper Fi - Ken
I would suspect the electrolytic capacitors first. Old electronics can have all kinds of issues from bad components, to things being out of tolerance or dirty.

To me, distortion equals an increase in voltage or current driving the power amp. As an aside I have a 1970 Fender Twin that had the old paper wrapped capacitors in the power supply. I knew one was bad but replaced all of them and it resolved the issue. In any event, thank you Sir
Good job! You probably already know; but beware of 'good deals' on ANY transistors. Lot of phony transistors floating around. Always safer to pay the extra price and buy from a reputable outfit, like Mouser, Digikey, Jameco, etc. I have risked it and bought IC's from China and most were good. But transistors seem to be the focus of scammers selling fake parts. May God bless you and watch over you.
Thank you for the input. I got them from another amp tech here in America who had bought out an old electronics supply store. He happened to have 14 nos transistors. I bought 10. Im always aware of fake parts and usually only buy from digikey or mouser, depending on who has the best prices or particular parts i need from that order.
I got 3 bad heads from guitar center in a row. Funny how when I trade in they make sure to check every detail but when I buy it feels like they say "Hey It Doesn't Smell Like Cat Pee So Let's Not Test It And List It As Great Condition".

@@greyfiit’s possible. But I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion unless the previous owner said that’s what they did. It’s more likely there’s a problem.

Dang just bought one at Guitar Center myself hope it works at home.Sounded like a wounded lion at the store holy stoner metal Batman.
Hope it works out for you. The one i repaired armed to be stored in a barn for a while which never helps electronics.
