A dog is a big commitment (whether big or small).
First year is always the most expensive for shots, and to get them spayed/neutered. Once they have all their shots, some are between every 1-3 years. So it’s not extremely expensive.
Have an emergency vet savings and/or insurance for your dog which helps in emergency situations!
Monthly cost varies on how often you’re buying food, toys, and accessories.
Things to consider:
1. Ask yourself if you ready to commit to a pet for 10+ years!
2. Understand Your lifestyle vs the breed (research the breed or educate yourself with a professional to ensure it will match)
3. Consider how much time do you have to train. Training a dog takes time, and it’s important to research and educate on proper training to avoid unwanted or bad behaviors that could turn into reactivity for example.
4. If you are buying from a breeder make sure they are registered/ethical.
5. if you are buying from a shelter consider that the dog (depending on age, might already have some behaviors that may need professional training to assist you which could be overwhelming as your first dog.

@@emilyatso In this video she mentioned she privated it bc she felt it was a great idea while filming, but after she posted it she felt like it wasn't good content and that it just sucked. I liked it and thought it was a fun video, but I understand she needs to feel happy and confident with what she uploads.
So I have a small/medium dog breed (highly encourage looking at shelters or rescue organizations first, there are small pups out there!!!). I get the higher end of preventatives and food choices as well as daycare once or twice a week so my monthly cost is about $300 and then once a year exams/vaccinations run around $250 to give you an idea! Also, I will say with traveling frequently you'll have to have reliable dog sitters on hand or find a boarder that you like and trust 😊

Oh so totally felt the urge to get a doggo a couple years back, and it was the best decision I ever made. I got my little pup from a rescue organization based out of Las Vegas (they organized to get my dog flown up to British Columbia where I live). I also work from home 90% of the time, and it made all the difference just feeling less alone in an empty apartment. I would say whether you're getting a rescue or from a breeder, LOOK INTO PET INSURANCE. I've saved thousands of dollars by having insurance, and it helps with peace of mind around the financial piece. I would also say to depending on the breed to keep an eye out for extra costs around grooming and such. But at the end of the day, I would do anything for my little pup (she's 12 now, was 7 when I got her), and would make the same decision a hundred times over.

Hi Bri! I adopted a 15 lb poodle/shih tzu mix about a year ago and here is what I’ve learned and costs:
- We adopted from a rescue which I think is the way to go. Rescues can be picky about not having a yard but they also tend to know the dogs personality better because the dogs are typically fostered. You may even want to foster a few dogs first and see how you feel!
- Go in with the expectation that it will take a lot of time and work. We had to crate train our dog and deal with separation anxiety. We couldnt leave the house for ~6 months without getting a dog sitter until he was fully trained and could be totally calm alone.
- With above, the first 6 months or so can be really rough. I’d be prepared not to travel during that time and put lots of time into training and building a good relationship with your doggo!! Its so worth it :)
Monthly Costs (living in california)
- mobile grooming, $140
- food and treats, $60
- flea/tick preventative, $20
- toys/puzzles, $20
Annual:
- vet visits/shots ~$500
- dog sitting during vacation, $50/day ~$800 year
Also, I’d recommend watching training videos before getting the pup! I really like McCann Dogs on here :)

Dogs are the best companions in the entire world, I’d really recommend trying a shelter dog though because generally speaking they have less health issues and just want a home. I think bred dogs are good if you have an allergy and need that considered but with a lot of shelters if you talk to them about what you want, they can keep an eye out and contact you if they find a good fit. My dog is a rescue and he’s also my first dog and he was amazing. Any dog will take patience and have financial costs but there’s something really special about knowing you’re giving an animal home and those dogs often know that and will treat you like a best friend too! I hope you find a good fit either way and you’ll be an amazing dog mom! ☺️☺️
Yess I had 3 cats growing up and adopted all of them from shelters / families who could no longer take care of them! I loved being able to give them a home💕 Definitely going to check shelters first to see if they have the right puppy for me!

Ok as a previous dog owner, get you and your fur baby enrolled in training classes right away! Spend a lot of time finding a good vet cuz that makes the world of a difference. I’ve had a couple of shitty vets look over what later became my dog’s cancer and I’m so happy I got a second and third opinion. The first vet didn’t think it was worth to test the lump and the second tossed it after surgery instead of sending it off for testing. Take the damn time to find a good vet! They are literally taking care of your baby’s life. Also careful not to give your dog detachment disorder by coddling them before you leave the house. Obviously there’s a balance but they won’t be anxious unless you are. They pick up on every emotion. Routine is everything. Also enjoy the fact that you will be their life partner and forever home. Once you get a dog it is for life. Every decision suddenly revolves around them but don’t let that scare you, it’s honestly the best feeling 💕

I would recommend shelters , Puppies are ALOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE required, cats aren’t as needy (coming from someone with a dog lol)

I have both a big and small dog so I can advice on both. Some things I wish I would have known beside the continuing expenses of food (100-200 month depends on what type of food you get) and vet. if you get a smaller dog another expense that people don't talk about is anal glans expression and this depends on the size and genetics of the dog how frequent they will need it. For some dogs it can be every month to every three month. Depends on the place some price start as low 15 dollars to upper max 80. You also want to consider grooming practices ; like will my dog have a double coat cause that will add to price of annual expense depending if they are on a grooming schedule ($80- upwards). If you travel a lot def find a sitter, daycare( with daycare can charge weekly or month from $100-300) or friend.

When it comes to your fear of posting certain videos, look at it this way: post whatever you want to post. Don’t worry about what your subscribers and viewers like or don’t like. If we don’t like it, we won’t watch it. A lot of UA-camrs have posted videos thinking it was going to do terribly, and it ended up being some of their best work and they didn’t know it. Obviously if it’s actually not a good video it’ll show in the analytics, and then you can say OK the style doesn’t make money (if you’re worried about the money) and then just change it up on the next video.
Make sure you find a good therapist for you! Dont think the first one has to be perfect, you can change, make mistakes and find one that will be perfect and help you the way you need 💓

Don’t get a dog get a cat! A dog is a big responsibility and you travel you need someone to watch it and you live in apartment you have to take it out all the time walking it . A cat stays inside and pretty much independent! Plus dog is so expensive every vet trip is like 150$

I agree about the dog part but if you got the money .. getting a dog could help with anxiety depression and tbh I take my dog everywhere with me I have very bad social anxiety so taking my dog helps a lot ❤ he’s 10 years old I was 17 when I got him and now I’m 26 I’m old..

id recommend pet insurance that way your won’t have any crazy expensive vet bills of god forbid anything happen to the fur baby. Get good quality food, leash, vitamins, just the groomers and or any medications they may need
The guys I was seeing for 5 months needed a sudden break after him getting back from vacation. 2 Weeks before he wanted to be exclusive and said he was feeling committed to me but wanted to go slow on labels. I was heartbroken that it was so sudden that I then apparently ruined chances of thing going any further and that he just wanted a break. we have no contact since and I feel broken. One day I hate him and regret everything and the next I’m missing his stupid ass. Yet idk why, as angry as he has a right to be the way he yelled at me while I was trying to communicate how I was feeling and that was a huge shock
Obviously I don’t know everything about the relationship but it sounds like you can do better!🫶🏻 If someone wants to take a break you have the right to not want or wait around while they figure it out! Also don’t love that he yelled at you :( communication is such an important skill
@@briannaxrenee I know but I truly thought he was so different then the rest and for it to be so suddenly after the take we hard it just left me beyond confused and I reacted in a way that felt like I waS just being played and used until someone better came along, and that he just said the right thing to get his needs satisfied. I feel like he’s wanting a break for the wrong reasons, I want to respect the fact he needs a break that because it can be time for us to both work on ourselves but just don’t think he need a break for himself.
