The Philippines can be a very dysfunctional country on so many levels, as its like time stood still in many areas in technology. I thinkthey don't automate anything because afraid it will lay off people from their minimum wage jobs. Minimum wage in the Phils is not done to help people, but to hold people down as all pay the same. Sadly in the Philippines a cluster F often just comes with the ride. Prayers to you!!

BDO - doesn't surprise me at all - we have had our own crazy experience dealing with them leaving me scratching my head knowing it was just wrong. Property tax is one "SPECIFIC AREA" I have been trying to get info on - NO Foreigner vlogging with a house wants to share this info. Something just doesn't make sense to me - you mentioned paying $700 USD currently and will be going up, it always does. That amount is way to much already for PH - I do not see how the numerous locals in the same area would ever be able to Pay Anywhere Near that Amount never mind most of them have much larger properties. I'm having a hard time getting my head around this one.

Someone that’s never been there to see it could never wrap their mind around it. Keep updating us please. If there is a way I can help chip in I’d be happy to help sir! I am also a Country boy from the South. I’ve heard that St Luke’s can be just as expensive as Western hospitals.
Watching this situation again, with Juells. Question: when it comes to a Life and Death situation, like what actually it was. Even if the money was tight or not there. In hindsight, wouldn't it have been the best to make the choice to start over for Juells permanent residency? I know A LOT of money would have been eaten up with the bureaucracy. Juells could potentially still be alive. The outcome would still be unknown. At least the flow of what needed to be done would have been more settling, for what was necessary and needed to be done. I know I can rewatch to hear his Great Life story. I just miss that Juells is not with us anymore. Be Strong and Stay Awesome. Be The Rock that keeps the Family together. My Father was the Rock that kept our Family together. When my Father died (September 11, 2002), our Family split apart, and Family gatherings were never the same or didn't happen. A pity that Thailand has been cancelled. The hospitals in the province towns ( excluded are the tourists spots ) are good and affordable . Concerning St Luke I see that a lot of your subscribers find it a good hospital. It is a good hospital , but inform first about the financial side of the hospital. As far as i know embassy people , showbiz and rich people go there. Middle class like me cannot afford it. We go for serious cases to Baguio . St louis university hospital. If they do not know how to help you , they will tell you . At least we have good experiences there . Greetings Paul

Never throw away a ticket. If you want a real ticket in your hand instead of an "onward ticket" agency. Pay for a fully refundable ticket for the parts you want to cancel. I've also done that for years before onward ticket

Hope you come back to US. You're going to need to eventually for all your follow up appointments. Not sure you're budget but by the way you describe all those expenses it's seems the budget is very limited. At least in US you have social programs and other resources until you get SS. You're going to need followup appointments. Do you really trust the Philippines for that?

I suggest going to Manila where the best hospitals are located. St. Luke's, Makati Medical, and it won't hurt to visit The Farm in Batangas. The new Manila hospital has all the new technologies you need, and if you establish a residency, it's free for the people of Manila.❤❤❤
No reason to leave the country! St Lukes is part of the Mayo clinic in USA. Nice facility, modern equipment, and competent doctors, most have completed fellowships in USA and other countries. I am from the Boston area with a spousal 13a visa and have personal experience dealing with hospitals in USA and Philippines. You can trust your life with St Lukes. Asian Hospital is a close second. No reason to go to Thailand. Good luck!

Two things. (1) My oral surgeon in Oregon says he has been to 3 medical/dental conferences in the Philippines, and he said, "Their medical and dental is quite good, actually." (2) I have so many true tales of medical or dental gone bad in the USA, either my own experience or a relative, so to be fair, I take this into consideration when comparing. Doing your own research, as you are doing, is always indicated, IMHO. Good on you. Good luck.
What a cluster fuck. I think St. Luke’s is your best bet (maybe always was in hindsight). Of course it’s easier said than done, but the stress can make things worse. No matter what man, keep cool, and we will see you in a couple months.
I was going to do the immigrant visa, and gave up on it. I'll just do the Balikbayan visa. I would find the best liver cancer hospital in the US, and go there.
seems like Dumaguete is a good retirement option until you have a serious medical issue. I had an echo cardiogram in December in Dumaguete at Silliman, had it redone back in Canada when I got home , and the specialist here reviewed the one done in Dumaguete and said did they maybe get the results switched up with someone else's results. As they were totally different results. I hope you get your issues figured out soon. Hard to believe a hospital anywhere cant figure out how to drain an abdomen with Ascites
It cost 15000 pesos for residency. 1 year temporary and then another 15000 for the second year where you get permanent residency. That’s 600 American dollars approximately. You using a visa service was your first mistake. 2 grand?? Seen you coming.

Sorry to hear about your troubles after all you have been through with your GBS. I'll be interested in your updates regarding St. Lukes. I'm not in the Philippines yet (2025) but planning to live in BGC, in part, due to St. Lukes being so close & heard that they are an excellent hospital.
Your experience is why I left the Philippines. Could not deal with the inefficiency, bureaucracy, and corruption anymore.

What a cluster fuck. I think St. Luke’s is your best bet (maybe always was in hindsight). Of course it’s easier said than done, but the stress can make things worse. No matter what man, keep cool, and we will see you in a couple months.

I was going to do the immigrant visa, and gave up on it. I'll just do the Balikbayan visa. I would find the best liver cancer hospital in the US, and go there.
That's what we do. Haven't been able to stay for more than a year at a time anyway.
Balikbayan visa or 13a (marriage visa). You only have to go to immigration once a year.

seems like Dumaguete is a good retirement option until you have a serious medical issue. I had an echo cardiogram in December in Dumaguete at Silliman, had it redone back in Canada when I got home , and the specialist here reviewed the one done in Dumaguete and said did they maybe get the results switched up with someone else's results. As they were totally different results. I hope you get your issues figured out soon. Hard to believe a hospital anywhere cant figure out how to drain an abdomen with Ascites

It cost 15000 pesos for residency. 1 year temporary and then another 15000 for the second year where you get permanent residency. That’s 600 American dollars approximately. You using a visa service was your first mistake. 2 grand?? Seen you coming.

Sorry to hear about your troubles after all you have been through with your GBS. I'll be interested in your updates regarding St. Lukes. I'm not in the Philippines yet (2025) but planning to live in BGC, in part, due to St. Lukes being so close & heard that they are an excellent hospital.
