BURROUGH HILL LAD and John Francome triumph in the 1984 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury

Burrough Hill Lad proved himself in a class of his own amongst the staying chasers in the 1984/85 season, scoring on five of his seven starts, including here when carrying 12st to win the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury.
Sent off the 100/30 favourite, Burrough Hill Lad was given a ground-saving ride up the inner by John Francome and he jumped fluently on his way to a most impressive success, going clear between the final two fences, recording a four-length victory with 30 lengths back to the third.
He was the first Hennessy winner to carry 12st since Mill House and Arkle in the 1960s.

What a gem of a race, Sir Peter doing the commentary, The Greatest Jockey riding, and a view of my house on the hill behind at the end lol. Such a scenic course Newbury was before the zillion flats built around it.
