A lot of people have been mentioning in the comments that all of the Mega Man incarnations (X, Volnutt, EXE, etc.) are actually different characters, so calling them "redesigns" isn't really correct, and I can definitely understand that stance. From my perspective, though, while X, Volnutt, EXE and the others are all their own separate people, they are all still Mega Man. Kind of like how even though there are multiple people who take on the role of Spider-Man, like Peter Parker, Ben Reilly, Miles Morales, etc., they are all still Spider-Man. Or kinda like how there are multiple heroes in the Zelda series, like the Hero of Time in Ocarina of Time or the Hero of Winds in The Wind Waker, but they're all still Link. So when calling the other Mega Man incarnations "redesigns", I meant it in more of a broader meta sense in relation to the character. Sorry for the confusion, I should've explained it in the video. Take care, y'all!
What bothered me more was that you called the buster a dragon when it's meant to be a wolf lol
I'm just now thinking that the redesign to his buster might be a metaphor that by the time SF3 happens he's no longer a "lone wolf" since in the first two games he goes through the character arc of learning to trust people.
You're Headcannon is not cannon. Understand that.
It's just my opinion, but I think that you aren't SUPPOSED to like Samus' fusion suit. The whole reason Fusion succeeds in being something of a horror game is by taking past series elements and turning them on their head. Enemies are just X in disguise, bosses from series past are turned into horrific monstrosities, and the SA-X hunts you down every corner. Importantly, the SA-X has the classic Varia suit, and Samus doesn't. The SA-X represents what you have lost.
@@DemonDeathAmateur2000 u sound way to pissed for something so inconsequential
@@DemonDeathAmateur2000 I wasn't talking to you. Stop harrassing people for attention.
Kirby going from white to pink was a simple but great redesign choice. Pink really suits Kirby’s wholesome energy
Yes
When i see pink i think Kirby, he kinda "owns" the color pink now XD
Kirby is white you’re evil Kirby is black
Just a joke
He was always pink, he just white on the boxart of Dreamland because of a misunderstanding
"The fusion suit looks too alien and organic to me"
I mean... isn't that kind of the point?
Right? I don't understand the complaint. If it looks alien and organic, it did its job.
I don't think it can really even be categorized as a "redesign" there are story reasons she looks that way. It's not her "new" look. And you can see in dread that she went back to the varia suit after the end of fusion
Breath of the Wild’s Link redesign was incredibly successful somehow.
They ditched his green tunic and his hat for all official artwork. Of course you can unlock/find the old gear in the game, but the promotion/art all features link in the champions tunic with no hat and yet it still instantly reads as link and from my memory there wasn’t really any backlash or adjustment period for people to get used to this new link.
I remember discussion after Skyward Sword about why every iteration of Link needed to be in the green tunic and cap and how this didn't make sense if the Minish Cap was supposed to be the origin story for Link's hat *after* the events of Skyward Sword. I don't know if that influenced Nintendo's decision to redesign Link, but his BOTW aesthetic is so good.
To be fair Link gets a new design every other game.
@@PhantomOfficial07yeah but never this drastic of a change. Sure, he has had blue clothing before, but green has aways the main colour is all other games
I dont get why people like botw link his desifn just seems like link but more boring to me!
@@Videospiel-Man5730 Different strokes for different folks. There's no need to play dumb.
One of the reasons to EXE’s large cuffs is to make the attacks he uses seem like it could come out of his arm naturally. The hand fades and transforms into a sword, larger buster, whatever chip he’s using and the cuff helps keep it look like it all comes from the same place
I like protoman design in the anime.
Why would it need to be depicted with physical space when he's a computer program though?
I'd argue against the fact that the fusion suit looks great. It even got another redesign in Dread to show that it's slowly healing itself.
I understand what you mean of the base Fusion Suit design looking too "alien", but that's kinda the point since Samus has been infused with Metroid DNA. Plus, she already has Chozo DNA in her system, and their technically considered aliens.
Mario's outfit changed a lot over the early years. It went from red overalls and blue shirt to blue overalls and red shirt to red overalls and brown shirt to blue overalls and red shirt to red overalls and black shirt and finally to his modern outfit of blue overalls and red shirt.
Mario never had a brown shirt he just looked like that in SMB1's sprite because the sprite artists kinda sucked with sprites and palettes at the time
In the artwork for the game he has the classic red overalls blue shirt look
@@PhantomOfficial07 I'm specifically talking about in-game appearances.
@@PhantomOfficial07 The sprite artists didn't suck completely per se, more like they had a very limited space to create sprites and had to work around those limitations to the best of their ability to create a finished product. Hardware and game space would improve in future years.
@@ZTimeGamingYT Super Mario Bros 3 is a way better looking game on the same console though
@@PhantomOfficial07 That's because they had more space to work with on the cartridge itself. Super Mario Bros. could only use 40 kilobytes of data, whereas Super Mario Bros. 3 could use around 384 kilobytes. Again, demonstrating how cartridge space had inproved.
Samus looks "alien like" because she got metroid dna which transformed the suit.
Correction on Zero: he didn't come with a sword in X1, so Keiji didn't thought of that for the redesign, he got it in X2
X, Volnutt, EXE, and StarForce are all actually entirely different character, who are only classifiable as "redesigns" from an out-of-universe perspective.
While the classic Mega Man is meant to be one of the firsts of his kind of advanced robots in his time, X was meant to be a much more advanced creation whose "AI" is pretty much human.
Volnutt is entirely unrelated to any previous Mega Man, and is actually just a Carbon (selfthought humans but whose bodies appear to constitute of machinery; to the point where "surgery" and "machine repair" are almost synonymous to them). His "blocky" attire is actually a tough digger suit, meant to have strong physical resistance as he goes around exploring dungeons for energy sources that can be sold for money.
MegaMan.EXE, as you very nicely put it, is a program; a very advanced program with human-like AI, that is classified as NetNavis (shorthand for Internet Navigators). His sleek design is basically a "well-optimized" teenage MegaMan, which works really well in tandem with his Net Operator, Lan Hikari.
Idk much about StarForce, but apparently he's some kind of ElectroMagnetic suit/form for a kid named Geo Stelar, and that is granted to him by the alien Omega-Xis, who is also his buster in the first two games.
Oh, and also, Samus's Fusion and Dread suits are actually separate suits. You get her iconic look back at the end of Fusion iirc.
also getting the timelines involved is odd for megaman since it was megaman -> X(supposed to end at X5) -> megaman zero -> (unsure if megaman zx was planned for the timeline ) megaman legends and EXE and starforce was more of an alternate timeline also I honestly prefer Omega-Xis' japanese name which is war rock.
Megaman.EXE💀
@@walkingmadnesscrawlingsanity here’s the timeline
Classic>X>Zero>ZX>Legends
Battle network and starforce are a separate timeline
@@sonicloverlol not that creepypasta my guy.
Also since he mentioned megaman.exe he should have including cross fusion Megaman.exe too.
All the Mega Mans are actually different characters.
They still count, they made them as different characters to fit the games they were making.
@@Mari_Izu yeah. But it made it seem as if he thought that they were the same character. That’s extremely annoying when you know the lore of the games.
This is probably one of those channels that post whatever for views. I wish youtube didn't recommend junk
@@sirnelson424 are you talking about my comment?
@@Mari_Izu I don't think thats at all the case but pop off
Samus looking "alien-like" in fusion was completely intentional, it was to show that she had just survived a attack from a creature that almost "digested" and assimilated her.
And, her appearance in Dread is a in-between of her look from Fusion and the varia suit. Showing that she still recovering from her "close-death-experience".
On a side note, Samus also got a redesign in Metroid Prime 3. Where she got infected with Phazon, and got extra equipment fused into her armor to help control the spread of the infection.
I like how the thumbnail suggests legends megaman is a redesign lol
0:25 Snake looks old like that because of accelerated aging, not because it's a different time period. (Although if 2009 to 2014 counts as a time period difference, then it counts.)
>Redesigns
>Shows MegaMan Volnutt, a completely different character from a completely different era
I know you didn't mean to do this, but if I didn't know any better before watching this video, I would assume the mega man design changes were all applied to the same character, when they weren't. They were all made for different characters for different periods of time, or timelines the .exe version.
Conceptually, they are all redesigns.
The fusion suit being very alien is definitely on purpose. That is the point with her being part metroid and all.
Another character that has a surprisingly drastic redesign who was not mentioned in the video is Klonoa; when Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil was being worked on, the devs made it so that Klonoa himself would be a little older and more mature due to it taking place several years after Door To Phantomile, with Klonoa going from being a 9 year old to that of a 13-14 year old. To reflect this, Klonoa was given a new redesign; his collar, red shorts and brown shoes were traded for a blue zipper get-up with red shoes, which in my personal opinion has got to be the best drip I've ever laid my eyes on. Seriously, I'm not a cosplayer or anything, but if I had to cosplay as just one character, it'd be modern Klonoa.
In addition, Klonoa now wore his hat backwards, and his eyes went from being more cat-like to being more Sonic-like. I honestly don't care that he looks more like a Sonic character than he did before, and while the original Door To Phantomile design does have an edge in cuteness, the Lunatea's Veil design is still awesome and serves as a phenomenal take on an older, more mature Klonoa.
Now, while I do consider that design to be Klonoa's modern look, this hasn't stopped Bandai Namco from giving him new outfits on occasion, with the most notable of these being the default outfit in the Klonoa: Door To Phantomile Wiimake, which harkens back to the original design but with a modernized twist. It's an alright design, even if it does remind me alot of Sora. Interestingly enough though, when the Wiimake was being localized in 2009, there were plans to heavily overhaul Klonoa's design for overseas markets, essentially ridding him of his iconic floppy-ears in favor of more bat-like ears. Thankfully, due to fan backlash, Bandai Namco took the hint and Klonoa got to keep his floppy-ears overseas. Wahoo, indeed!
I love Klonoa’s designs so much. I have a soft spot for the Wii design (the one used in-game of course lol), but his other designs are so damn good. I love him
Wild that we're referring to Sonic getting a new pair of shoes as a "redesign"
LMAO fr
2:45 the funniest thing is out of all megamans (excluding Vent/Aile and Ashe) Volnutt is the most human
What about Megaman.exe? He seems more human to me than volnutt.

Samus’ varia suit redesign for Metroid Dread is so clean. The gold edges with the white body work so well together
The gravity suit was a bit much tho
I loved all three suits, but I really get why people don’t, heck, I didn’t at first.
“Fusion suit looks too alien.”
Um, isn’t that the point? Given that it was a Metroid DNA-infused vaccine that saved Samus?”
Volnutt isn’t a redesign. That’s a completely different character
And so are every other mega men, I think there no way kiro isn’t aware of that
There's more to the designs than you mention.
You should have compared to the way OG Mega Man looked all the back in the first two games (where had a more play-dough feel to his design) and then compared it with his designs from Mega Man 8 all to the way to 11; especially as you can now see seam-lines near his arms in his official artwork for MM11. Heck, his design alteration in MM11 might be very well the result of Dr. Light wanting to make it easier to do maintenance on him. Heck, Roll herself has been given two notable design changes. My favorite is the one introduced with MM8, but I still like her MM11 design as well. O r Wily, who looked like a more normal scientist, but over time because the truly evil creator of the Zero virus both in terms of writing and design.
Mega Man X and others are their own separate entity. You could have taken a look at the way he was drawn at first. Then take a look at his most famous design from MMX5 to MMX7. When it came time for MMX8, they wanted a design that was easier to animate for cutscenes. Therefore, he has a notably different design with that title and while not as famous of a design, I like how X looks in that game.
Heck, Zero was originally supposed to be X himself. His design in Maverick Hunter X is an accurate reflection of what he looked like initially. However; after sacrificing himself, he was fully put back together and finally had both the shoulder pads and Z-Saber that Wily intended for him originally. Then there's the Mega Man Zero series where his orignal body was hijacked by Omega. He had a new body constructed and while it's strange his face looks younger, I do like how his armor now looks more like clothing and he has the coolest version of the Z-Saber.
Shifting into focus with Metroid; I know that Other M is quite bad. However, the Varia Suit in that game still manages to look good and it was refined for SSB4/SSB Ultimate; resulting in her best design so far with the Smash series. You could have talked more about the Power Suit itself; where it becomes modernized with Metroid 2, Super Metroid, and Metroid Zero Mission. There are also different design interpretations of it in Samus Returns and Metroid Prime. Although admittedly the Power Suit we see in Prime and all the way up to Super Metroid is technically not the same Power Suit she had in Zero Mission. Going over to the Varia Suit, the first version of it in Zero Mission pays homage to the fact the Varia Suit didn't originally have the big basketball shoulder pads. Instead, it was a simple color change design. Though this one is a deep shade of orange instead of pink. The Fusion Suit is not the Varia Suit itself. If anything, the Omega Suit becomes Dread's Varia Suit and the Fusion Suit replaced the previous two Power Suits (the first one being in Zero Mission and the second one being lost at the start of Fusion; same with the pre-Dread Varia Suit). She essentially has a new Power Suit in Dread as a result of that. Although obviously her suits are still healing in Dread despite essentially being new ones.
Finally someone who did their homework 👏👏👏
My most favourite character designs in Mega Man series are Zero,X and Volnutt. They’re simple and very stylish, and their colours matches their personalities.
Much like how video game hardware and software must update and develop as time goes on, so too must the looks of its characters 😊
I personally love how Pac-Man went from a yellow pizza to looking like a classic cartoon character with the classic black squinty eyes
Despite the amount of time already dedicated to Mega Man, it still wasn't enough to cover other major redesigns such as his appearance in the Mega Man Zero series or the Mega Man ZX series. Hell, he even had a major redesign within the Mega Man X series, going for a much slimmer look for Mega Man X8 and having a more colorful, decorated look in Mega Man X: Command Mission. He's such a versatile character as far as visual designs go. I never tire of seeing new visual takes.
Mega Man Starforce''s Mega Buster based on wolf named Omega-Xis (Warrock in Japan), this is also the origin of the name Mega Man/ Rockman in this series. The costumes similar with Mega Man EXE, because it sets 200 years after MMBN.
Mega Man, Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero is pure robot.
Mega Man Volnutt (Legends) is revived soldier from ancient society.
While Mega Man ZX, Mega Man ZXA, and Mega Man Starforce is human wearing Mega Man armor.
Mega Man EXE is a program, but later can merge with his Navi via Cross Fusion.
Samus also got a redesign in Metroid other M. Slimming down the suit slightly. This is also the design used in smash bros 3ds wiiu and switch
Yes, the metroid fusion power suit looks more alien, but that's the point. Samus' suit gets removed almost entirely and then she gets mutated into a metroid halfbreed, with the suit mutaing accordingly, so of course it looks alien, it's literally half alien now. Samus helmet is now shaped like a metroid larvae with fangs at the bottom and she now has 3 spheres in a triangular shape resembling metroids' core in her back. It also makes her look and feel waaaaay more vulnerable, which makes the horror atmosphere of Fusion believable.
bro HAD TO tell everyone Sonic had low-rated games when this video is about designs
Ikr? It's like if he talked about X's design but immediately mentioned how X6 and X7 are bad games. 🤦♂️
all the megaman characters isn't the same. however i'd guess X's far more humanish proportions is probably there to give off the feeling that this isn't the megaman people knows, the increased emphasis on character talk and plot probably helps that. i would chalk up SF Megaman as being inspired by Super Sentai shows of the time. assuming their redesign in 3 is probably because of the VG-Hunter turning FM/AM-ians (that bonded with humans) into Wizards. (essentially artificial wave beings/computer program navis).
Is it just me or does his design seems similar to captain marvel?
Ive just discovered your channel and I’ve been binging all of it! Love the content! Keep it up!
I will always have a soft spot for the Fusion Suit, even if the Varia Suit colors were terrible. The initial blue color of the Fusion suit being the polar opposite of the iconic orange of the Varia suit really struck me when you're being chased by the SA-X, and the darker purple of the Gravity suit (as opposed to Super Metroid's pinkish Gravity suit color.) was pretty much perfect. The Fusion suit is just the iconic power suit cut down to its base level, and I love how you can still see the underlying musculature of the Fusion suit underneath Dread's Power suit, as it's in the process of healing since Fusion.
Also while Classic Sonic is a great design and has that simplistic charm, I will always prefer the "Green Eyes" design. I believe that design embodies Sonic's free spirited and fun-loving attitude more than his more Mickey Mouse-esque design.
Also Other M's suit is dogshit and I'm annoyed that it was in not one, but two Smash games.
@@Innerste
I actually like the Other M Varia Suit design. Yeah the game it's from is one of the worst Metroid games ever. But that doesn't make the Varia Suit itself automatically bad. Dante from Devil May Cry 2 is one of his coolest designs; despite said design coming from the worst game in that series.
Heck, Sakurai's team improved upon the design with altered lining and making the suit somewhat beefier. It's easily Samus's best look in Super Smash Bros; especially compared to the designs that came before that. Her 64 design has to be forgiven, especially as Sakurai didn't have access to a large budget the first time around. Sadly, however, her Super Metroid Varia and even Gravity Suit designs didn't translate all that well to Super Smash Bros Melee. She would receive a new design in Brawl that looks like it was partly inspired by Metroid Prime (seems he felt a more direct translation of the Prime design would have been too tanky feeling in Smash Bros). However, this design has always been controversial and understandably was ditched after that. When it comes time for SSB6, hopefully Nintendo doesn't fully abandon the aesthetics from the recent installments. Hopefully if anything the SSB4/Ultimate design can be used as inspiration for an even better looking Smash Bros Varia Suit.
Going back to Other M; while I like how the suit looks in orange; the mustard yellow Power Suit version is more so meh. It's ironic, because the Super Metroid version of the Power Suit was also a similar color to that. However, I'd say I still prefer Super's since not only was that suit rendered in a 2d game (especially for the ending); making the color not work as much against the overall look, it also had the basic shoulder pads that make more sense than the more rounded ones on the Other M design. It helps Super Metroid has the excuse that it was moving the Power Suits in general closer to modernization.
I really enjoy your videos, i found them like 2 weeks ago but damn are they good !!
I do think the Varia and Gravity suits in Dread deserve a special mention. They look super rad while still maintaining that vibe of being incomplete/busted up:
Slightly off topic but I think Metroid 2 has one of the coolest box arts ever.
No that’s not off topic. 7:26
I thought this video had millions of views and I was pretty surprised that it only has thousands. The explanations for each design on how it makes them unique is simple which makes me watch more of this
Thats what I thought when I first started watching his videos! They're so high quality!
Interesting how Volnutt's mostly organic body with some armor on it looks "more robotic" than the fully robotic Megaman Classic. X likewise looks more like a robot, but arguably his truly free-willed android mind makes him actually more human than the autonomous but still ultimately programmed machine of Classic Mega Man.
Xenoblade 3 has some god tier redesigns tho. Especially for Shulk and Rex I love them so much.
Rex looks fucking GORGEOUS!!

sonic boom is fine. what they were thinking with the tape is that, actually, runners and professional athletes USE A LOT of sports tape and they tend to wrap their feet and hands just like sonic.
sports tape helps with sprains, injuries and cramps, so it gives a touch of "realism" to sonic and friends because well, it's basically saying they CAN get hurt.
I'm tired of everyone hating that part of the design when it's the part that makes the most sense. 😭
I wouldn’t call mega man to volnutt (legends) and super metroid to fusion a “redesign”. Legends mega man and classic mega man are different characters and at different points of a timeline. Somewhat similar, Samus, it’s the same character but story reasons made them look different. I feel redesigns only can be said with remakes/remasters imo
Mario’s design on the NES/SNES was more chubby than he is now. Either it’s a redesign or all that jumping made him lose some weight.
Ive always liked the Sonic Boom redesign to some extent. The tape is stupid, but i think his smaller hands and feet, alongside a much more expressive face, were great changes.
MegaMan, X, Volnutt, MegaMan.exe ect are all different characters so you can't exactly call them "redesigns" when they're their own characters, either alternate counterparts (MegaMan.exe) or a different characters entirely (MegaMan X and Volnutt), remember it's all about the established canon (which I won't gatekeep and say I'm an expert on) and not your headcanon
They are _conceptually_ redesigns. They're all about new takes on Mega Man.
@@MagcargoMan No they are not, they are separate characters entirely
@@Fork219 Looks like you don't know what conceptually means. Do you really think Mega Man X's design isn't meant to be a Mega Man 2.0, both from Dr. Light's perspective in-universe and Keiji Infunae's in real life? It's pretty damn obvious.
@@MagcargoMan For X to be a "Mega Man 2.0" would require him be built from the original Mega Man or upgraded from Mega Man, neither of which he is
@@Fork219 No, do you know about Marks? Mk 2. The entire point of Mega Man X is that he's a second version of Mega Man. A new seperate one, but it is conceptually a revamped Mega Man design. This isn't even debatable.
I think you probably described the best character redesigns or at least most significant ones in this video alone. When it comes to Sonic I actually prefer the modern design that's basically been around since Sonic adventure 1. I think it's more defined. And this is coming from somebody who grew up in the '90s and actually played the classic Genesis Sonic games when they were new. I like the classic design a lot I think it's got a nice design, but his eyes are black I mean come on who has eyes that are just pure black? Granted yes I think you could see that on animals in real life sort of but usually there's more than just the pupil. The classic design it looks like you just has the little dots that are in the pupils and not what comes around it in color. So I appreciate that they actually gave Sonic's eyes a look that is more realistic by making them green. But I do like his more defined design.
When it comes to Samus it's kind of hard to look past her varia suit. I mean sure her new suit design in Metroid Dread is pretty cool but I can't help it I like those thick shoulders her suit has in the much more common design we're used to and a variety of Metroid games and all of the Super smash Bros games.
I absolutely appreciate that all the different mega Man designs since they're not even all the same robot and like you said one of them was actually a computer program, I appreciate that they still resemble mega Man's original design while having a lot of other unique characteristics. That I think is really cool.
samus was the answer to the metroid problem from the chozo however because of how little metroids there were, the x parasites grew so when she encountered one she got sick and they had to inject metroid DNA into her to save her from the virus it gave her. her physiology is also tied to her suit so the DNA injection changed her suit thats why the change is so stark. also if you look at metroid primes fusion suit you can see on her back the pink three dots that metroids have as well its meant to look alien because shes part alien. btw why didnt you show the phazon suit?
never mind the major redesign(s) samus got in msr
This is the first Kiro video I've ever seen. And WOW, what a mess it is. You have successfully pissed off the entire Mega Man fanbase (myself included). Thats quite the feat. Do some basic research next time and maybe you won't have the entire comment section on your ass.
And don't get me started on this: "From my perspective, though, while X, Volnutt, EXE and the others are all their own separate people, they are all still Mega Man. Take care, y'all!"
Yea no. their not all "spider man". their their own people (granted Ben's a clone so ill let that one slide.) Different people from different universes ect with their own looks and personalities. Just cause their all spider man doesn't make them Peter Parker. That would make Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen Earth-65) Peter Parker. SPOILERS. She's not and he's dead there. And the Link argument? Literally every game its a different person from the last (with some exceptions like Majora's Mask.) Seriously? Dude go do research BEFORE making videos. Clearly you need it.
When I noticed the background was changing, I couldn't focus on the video anymore lol.
It's a nice video. Might've been better to cover more characters. Maybe you could do a part 2 of it. :)
Yeah I plan to eventually!
My favorite redesigns come in sets. Like, every character gets a redesign. Fighting games (notably the newest Street fighter), and Overwatch are my favorite examples of this.
X's design was meant to be "safe and uninteresting" to contrast with his look when he is fully decked out in armor. Zero's design is all over the place especially with the green tits. I prefer Zero's design in the Zero series.
We’re in 2023 and people still think Mega Man and X are the same guy
I was gonna say something about how the Mega Mans are all different people but I got beat to it
I love the new and old designs of many gaming characters. But I do love the redesign of Red from Pokémon he looked cool in the Pokémon Origins Anime. Cool video. ^_^
I used to watch this guy when he had 600 subs or so, oh yeah also cool videos
This man really neglected talking about X's design from X8 or his design from Command Mission when talking about Mega Man. Damn, lol
Volnutt's blocky design is result of the graphics limitations of the Playstation, and he's actually a cyborg, with a body replacement below the neck in order to work in mines or caverns of some kind. Even his hair style is a result of what PlayStation polygons can do. His design is also meant to be a more blantant callback to his predecessor Rock, as the classic lore does play a part in the plot of the first game, appearing in ficitonal works around Volnutt's home town despite both subseries being in the same timeline, but millenia apart. The only other Mega Men with human portions physically as a subseries mascot are Geo Stellar (Star Force) and Aile (ZX). What exactly a Mega Man is changes throughout the timeline.
I feel like you could have compared redesigns of the same character on that one, most are art style changes. As far as most design changes, Rock (classic) and Zero (who has his own games and redesigns even in the X games, fhe design you used of him doesn't appear until X2). Zero's are likely due to him constantly sacrificing himself and just going through chassis like most people go through phone cases. I could go on almost all day about redesigns of Rock, just from official art for the games. There's changes to how joints appear, vents, the whole "aged up very slightly" thing in 7 and 8, but used nowhere else, how the copy ability armor color changes vary appearance throughout the series, how his face is drawn, which designs are similar, etc. Volnutt is the only one to not change color scheme when getting a new weapon to my knowledge, if you include the Double Soul and Style Change systems from Battle Network or whatever the version exclusive forms on Starforce box art are. I could talk about X's armors for quite a while, just from model kits, and I'm not even a huge fan of the guy.
It’s funny how basically the only time that Samus’s BASE power-suit (the yellow one, not varia) was redesigned was in Metroid Other M (and Fusion and Dread, but those are treated as different suits in the narrative)
The one in Metroid NES has an old school feel to it. The Metroid 2 version is basically a cleaner version of it. Super's could be considered the first modern Power Suit. Zero Mission is a modernization of the original Power Suit, but still has some sense of old school to it. Samus Returns version is similar, but clearly not quite the same. As for Metroid Prime; its version of the Power Suit feels even more stripped down than other designs.
@@tidepoolclipper8657 idk they’re all basically the same, aside from other M, which gives it the varia suit’s shoulder-pads, for some reason?
mean while mario: only inverts outfit color and thats it
To be fair, X's design is bland... (for the lack of a better word) on purpose. You see, X is supposed to represent infinite potential and as such he takes on different forms via numerous other armors that he obtains throughout the games, such as the Light Armor from X1, the Falcon Armor from X5, the Shadow Armor from X6 and the Ultimate Armor. Personally, I think X looks cooler with the armor upgrades.
Volnutt isn't a redesign, it's a whole different character from a distant future from Megaman's timeline A, Hell X isn't even Megaman he's Megaman's successor built by Doctor light it's not a redesign these are Three Different Guys
Hell Timeline B isn't even the original megaman either that's just the net navigator designed based on Lan's dead twin brother Hub who died within a few years after birth and GEO IS A REGULAR KID WITH A DIGITAL SENTAI SUIT-- also a "DRAGON"? ALIEN. Omega-xis is an alien, did you play these games? these are 5 different people across their own respective two timelines
The fusion suit looking alien is the whole point of it.
You shouldn't be comparing the Megaman and Megaman X design as if it was redesign, cuz literally are two completely different characters. It's like comparing Red and Ethan from Pokemon as if they were the same character. Megaman from Megaman 11 or Smash is a redesign, not Megaman X.
I think it’s best to pretend that Bomberman’s design from Act Zero doesn’t exist
Or Mega Man's design from Street Fighter X Tekken
@@jasonpetitjean8332 you do know that design was ripped straight from the American box art for the original Mega Man and was used as a joke. Right?
@@Random_User666 I am well aware.
God I hate that design 😂
Every day I am thankful for not having to see pantsless Marth in HD
Or Abel looking like a bigger jerk than he is in actuality. Or Clair from Gaiden looking almost entirely like a copy-paste job of Catria. Or Sirius from Mystery of the Emblem's official artwork looking like a bad ripoff of Char Aznable (ironically, this is less of an issue with his in-game portrait). Or...well....Dolph...
Safe to say in regards to Marth I quite like his New Mystery of the Emblem design (which no doubt Sakurai liked and influenced Marth in newer Smash Bros titles), SSB4/Ultimate design, Fates, and Legendary Marth (Heroes).
Loving that omission of the other m redesign for samus
1:16 Damn, I had no idea about this, but I managed to figure it out myself, including transparency, based on Link’s sprite from Zelda 2!
wait but volnutt's an entirely different char-
So is X
and also MegaMan.EXE
Nooo I didn't want this video to end like that I haven't even finished my meal...loved tho pls do part 2
About a month ago, but he's done it.
the megaman one in the thumbnail is not a redesign its a different character
I'm a bit surprised you haven't mention some "BAD" ones like Bomberman's reboot era for the XBOX 360.
I need more videos like this
About the more Biological Alienstyle Design of Samus Metroid Fusion Suite, maybe didn't look that good but made a lot of Sense Storywise:
The lack of the Armor comes from dismantle the Armor from the Suit to rescue her, it is her Suit without the armor
Crash has gotten a few redesigns too over the years
like giving him tattoos which doesn't look good in my taste, or how Its About Time redesigned him again from how he looked in the N. Sane Trilogy which was much more closer to his classic look (and then there's his design in Skylanders which I think looks alright but not better than how he looks now, but still much better than the tattoo area)
Bowser also had a few redesigns, like how he used to be green in the Super Show, before he became how we know him as today
you could also look at the Street Fighter characters like Ken and Ryu, tho they mainly kept the same look, they have changed
you could also look at all the different redesigns of Link from Zelda, who gets a new look in every game, except a few here and there like the once I like to refer to as the Toon Link games
talking about Pokémon redesigns and you can look at Ash, from the original series, to X and Y were he looks older and cooler, to Sun and Moon which despite the different artstyle doesn't really work for me, to me that was a huge let down coming from the X and Y anime
0:09 to 0:14 Well actually for Sonic it's his shoes and for Pikachu it's his Lighting shaped tail.
You have so unique ideas for videos.
1:47 Why is nobody talking about how he said 'mega buster' instead of mega blaster 😂
Cause it's buster...? Not blaster?
Guns in Mega Man lore have always been called 'busters'. Every character with a blaster-arm has a buster - there's the Mega / Rock Buster, X-Buster, Zero Buster, Omega Buster, Dynamo Buster, and so on.
Other arguably good design changes that could be brought up include:
-Slimming down Pikachu.
-Mario; especially as his nose went from being really big in Super Mario 64 to something more reasonable proportioned by the time of Super Mario Galaxy.
-Klonoa's design since the second game (with the most notable exceptions being the two remakes to the original Klonoa game; with the second remake is more faithful to his original design concept).
-Dr. Eggman since Sonic Adventure and his Sonic Boom design (he easily has the best Boom design).
-Amy Rose in Sonic Boom (better outfit than her main outfits in the other spinoff games and the primary Sonic titles).
-Ganondorf in Twilight Princess and Tears of the Kingdom (so far).
-Fox McCloud and his crew with Star Fox 64.
-Krystal received a much better outfit in Star Fox Assault. While she looks fine in pink with Command, I still like her Assault look the best.
-If we could include vehicles; the Great Fox in Star Fox Assault.
-Arwing 2 in Command compared to Assault.
-Little Mac went from being a normal sized person with green hair and being displayed as a wire-frame to famously being a petite dude with black hair (the only exception since then being the SNES version of Super Punch-Out).
-Many of the characters from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light (especially with how beautiful Palla has become over time and how cool Legendary Marth looks in Fire Emblem Heroes).
-Safe to say the character designs in Shadows of Valentia are remembered much more than their original Gaiden counterparts in nearly all cases. Though the original Alm and Celica still have their fans; especially as Hidari payed homage to them in Fire Emblem Heroes.
-Dr. Wily by the time of Mega Man 7.
-Roll in Mega Man 8.
-Dante in Devil May Cry 5.
-Pit, Paluteena, and Medusa in Kid Icarus Uprising.
-Dracula and Alucard in Symphony of the Night; what a truly terrific night for such memorable designs.
-Gravemind in Halo 2 remastered; he actually looks truly ominous unlike his original counterpart.
-Master Chief wrecks his Mark 5 suit during re-entry and is replaced by his Mark 6 gen 1 suit. While I like his Mark 6 gen 3 suit in Infinite, his gen 1 suit looks so cool in Halo 2 and 3.
-Sly Cooper in Sly 2 and 3.
-Jak in Jak 3; he looks good in Jak 2 as well but I quite like how he looks in the game after that one.
-Ratchet in Nexus and Rift Apart; it took a while for them to get to that point as he initially looked rough during the PS3 era.
-GLaDOS in Portal 2 feels even bigger and thankfully is more expressive.
-Sora, Kairi, and Riku in Kingdom Hearts 2
-Half Life 2 Eli Vance.
Doom guys new armor made him go from doomguy to doom slayer with the way it lets him go faster with the rocket boots that let him dash
What about master chief’s multiple armors over the years? It’s cool that they had more reason to make his appearance change (unless it’s halo 4, nanobots my ass)
Megaman had 4 more redisigns in ZX, Rest in peace megaman ZX
Just realized classics sonics eyes are dark brown.
Watching since you made 3 videos
8:50 yeah no shit, that's the fucking point!
sonic R is good because think about it sega makes a lot of racing games so sonic R is good like the first Mario kart
Bad example of redesign with Megaman. Rock is not X, X, is not Rockman Wollnut and Rockman Wollnut is neither X not Rock. Rock’s design had changed over the years, you could have gone there instead, or with X.
Should have a tier list of which redisigns got better
Me personally, if the dread design was white for the torso, legs, and helmet, black for shoulders and light yellow for the lights, that would be amazing
Megaman's design is not exactly a redesign, it is more of being separate incarnation, it's like Link, same name but different incarnation, they were given different design to avoid confusion and separate itself from the other existing version
Closer examples of what he was attempting to show would include (and would have helped improve his video);
Mega Man MM1/MM2 -> MM3 -> MM7 -> MM8 -> MM11 (similar case with Wily)
Mega Man X MMX1/X2/X3 -> MMX4 -> MMX5/X6/X7 -> MMX8
Link LOZ1 -> Zelda 2
Hero of Time -> Hero's Shade
Link Breath of the Wild -> Tears of the Kingdom
@@tidepoolclipper8657 Hero's Shade isn't literally the Hero of Time, it's a manifestation of his regrets, whatever that means.
Most epic recent redesigns we got are Samus in Metroid Dread, Shulk in the Xenoblade 3 DLC and Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom.
If Nintendo were to ever bring back K. Rool in anything Donkey Kong related I wonder how they’d go about redesigning him (if they ever thought about it) despite Rare creating the character.
*Rex* in Xenoblade 3 DLC.
I'll be honest, the American classic design for sonic looks nice
I thought Megaman and X were two completely different characters?
They are
In cannon X is mega man little brother
@@themis-xis9265 oh I thought x was a older megaman
@@SophieHannam64 Yea, Rock (Mega Man) was one of the firsts robots that light created, and X was probably his final one, since he is close to dying at the time he creates X, to Rock (Mega Man) is Older than X
@@macaquinhomaluco Unless you wanna get techical and say X is older then Rock due to 100 years of stasis and then 100 years of war. Thats not even getting into his biometel.
The video is good, but I will say, none of the characters, besides maybe EXE are technically redesigns, as none of them technically are Mega Man, besides Mega Man himself. X, Volnutt, Geo, hell technically even EXE, aren't Mega Man. I get the idea tho
I wish you emphasized how Megaman Xs design changes wildly as he collects armor pieces, cuz it kinda gives off a vibe of the character X and the player both growing beyond the limits of that Classic design both artistically and thru gameplay.
The more you deviate from the Classic Megaman design with armor parts, the stronger your abilities become, beyond that of what Classic could do up to that point, and the armor color and designs matching up with Zero kinda pulls you into this new form of X.
I wish X would have kept his armor look as the default in X2 because of this, cuz I always thought of the armor as a permanent change rather than as a transformation. I'd hoped that the classic series getting representation elsewhere with the Gameboy games and the Wily Wars meant that X was going to have his new look represent the franchise going forward and being more experimental like how the Mario sequels did it, while the Classic series stayed more true to its roots with iterative updates like Sonic.
Sadly tho, X2 came out and it ended up being a repeat of the formula. I always wonder what might have been.
The alien bird suit is too alien to you? Good :P Thats what they're going for since its literally a biological entity
The big cuffs on Megaman.EXE's gloves and boots are actually a *good* thing. It adds a good balance to the design, otherwise he would look too skinny and big headed.
6:32 sonic toon are you serious now?
