Moore Fight was great to watch but my favourite is the Barkley fight - Duran just defied all sense of reality and reason by fighting a top tier world champion in his prime 4 weights above his natural class and winning.
What many people don't realize is that Duran started out as a bantamweight. The opponent of his first pro fight fought Wilfredo Gomes for his superbantamweight title years later. Duran has stopped an excellent featherweight Ernesto Marcel when Duran was 18 years of age. Marcel went on to became featherweight champion of the world and he has defended his title against Alexis Arguello. Marcel retired unbeaten as a champion.
And Barkley was SO sharp that fight as well. It was the fight of his life.
The Barkley that night would have defeated anyone in the world EXCEPT an in shape and motivated Roberto Duran.
Double and triple jabs, hooking off the jab, ripping to the body, beautiful combinations, mixing up his punches, stutter stepping his feet, Barkley did it all that night and was about as sharp as any boxer could ever hope to be. And he was an absolute giant who actually MISSED WEIGHT by a few lbs before the fight (Duran probably said "fuck it ill still fight him" lol) he was essentially a damn light heavyweight... Especially after he re-hydrated from the weight cut ect
But what he WASNT, was a defensive genius with heavy hands and the ring savvy only found with several decades of experience named Roberto Duran.
Also my favorite fight
Www Q
The young flashy Moore underestimated Duran and Moore was too inexperienced too a horrific beating Davey was never the same God rest his soul yo
I totally agree
A properly motivated Duran was just unstoppable!.
I have the upmost Respect for Duran, I don’t care what anyone says this man was one of The Greatest to ever step foot in the ring. When looking for a True heart of champion, one need look no further than Duran . He was simply great , he didn’t fight for the money, he gave most his fortune away to people in need, he fought because he loved the sport. He was a good man , and a great boxer
Roberto and I are the same age. I started following him in the early 70's and over the years he has inspired me in my athletic endeavors and life in general.
Same still compete in powerlifting competitions
You got it, friend. 12 year-old me was hooked on Stonehands after the Buchanan fight. Then he became my children's athletic role model: 'THAT'S what I want to see when you are out there.' It worked, too: they all did me proud. RFGA, Ph.D.
Duran's skills on show here. Once he sussed Moore out he was just having fun. No one tougher. Fair play to Moore. Very brave. His corner were a disgrace.
Excellent comeback. When Duran was young his endurance was incredible. He fights like nobody else in history. His way is so scientific yet natural at the same time.
Duran is an ATG. Unbelievable fighter.
Duh
@@drrasto9923 Duh
He’s the GOAT
Davey Moore was a real soldier for hanging in there as long as he did. The ref and his corner should've stopped it earlier. That's the type of beating that kills your prime as a fighter.
as it did. was never the same after this ass whippin
When ever I watch this fight I cant help but feel sad for Moore. I swear at 22:28 or so I saw ref kinda smiling, can't believe corner didn't stop it sooner when this incapable ref wouldn't.
Duran is my favorite boxer of all time.
Thanks for making a video on Duran, 1 of the 4 Kings of Boxing. A true great in the boxing ring & out of the ring. He was a real life Robinhood, he fought and took from the rich & gave to the poor. I also coming from a rough background he's the best example for ppl like me to never give up and better myself & give back to our communities. Viva Roberto Duran!
You're the legit boxing channel. Never made a video on the Pauls, you focus on real history and education. You don't force out a poorly done video every week. All your content is superb. I really respect that.
The amount of Chanels I’ve had to unsubscribe from becuase they are so happy to destroy the sport for a bit of views and money
@@cjj9127 for example who?
One of the greatest ever! No question
Duran whips his upper body and head back so quickly it looks like hes getting punched when he's cleanly evading it
ill bet he may have lost decision fights due to this. Only on slow replay can see that many of the punches that looked to have landed were actually evaded.
@@danneumann3274 also how he fights close range all the time 😂
It's hard to judge a fight you can hardly see
@@remyhavoc4463I have noticed how the great South American boxers have an uncanny ability to position themselves inside the range of opponents. Thereby taking away the effect of a punch. They seem to have a mental image of the effective range, and work inside it.
Chavez is a master of it.
And Duran was just too smart for Moore and Barclay.
This fight is amazing.
But when he smokes Barkley, that was the best fight ive ever seen.
That story Tyson told was great lol “he doesn’t fkn know me” 😂
Keeping it real jajaja
This was very well- structured, chronologically speaking. Davey Moore having to cut 2 pounds pretty much says it all. The body shot counter was a master stroke in assessing their bout.
Duran was one of the best defensive fighters ever.
Had to be to move up 3-5 weight classes and emerge unscathed against likes of MMH, SRL, IB, and DM.
Hes one of the best boxers.
Defense is only a relatively small part of that.
Its like looking at a Bugatti Veyron & saying it has one of the best gear boxes of all time.
While it may be true, its a pointless comment given the overall quality of the car.
Duran was a master boxer.
Period.
@@SPIDERM0OSE i got him in my top 3. srr, ali, duran.
@@Teddy-se8qb
I dunno if hes top 3.
In my book you have to have the skills, the athleticism, the toughness, the power, the consistency/professionalism.
He had all those things but at different times. Granted Ive only seen the 2nd half of his career but its what Ive seen.
Lots of fighters who became world champs were inspired by him so Im not gonna argue.
Personally Ive Ali & Robinson top 2, not coz Ive seen all their fights but because of their reputation among respected trainers & the guys who fought them but most of all because of their influence on the sport.
Robinson influenced Ali who till this day is seen in Usyk & Fury"s styles.
Robinson has how many Sugars n Sugar Rays paying homage to his name ?
Sears, Leonard, Moseley to name but 3.
As for his style I don't think we've seen it since the early 2000s when Roy Jones was p4p #1 but we have the likes of Boots Ennis coming up now heavily influenced by Roy.
I haven't seen Duran make that kinda impact.
Throwing stones at Duran’s house, insulting him in public, must have had a death wish!
Roberto Duran one of my top five pound for pound best ever
And that’s why i love about old school boxing because 1 he quit the second fight 2 people treat him so bad 3 he won and loss he’s comeback fights and had one of the worst performance in his career 4 he learned from those ass whooping and came back even stronger and I wish today’s boxers had that mentality 👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥🐐
Very true
I mean we haven’t seen that type of fight in today’s boxing. The closest we probably got was wilder vs fury 2 when fury got up in the final round🤷🏾♂️
@@vince11harris you cannot compare Fury or Wilder to Duran Duran was a complete fighter now Wilder has becoming a complete fighter now I got to give him that remember how many fights Duran had. Human body can only take so much punishment
@@vince11harris yeah that was pretty incredible when he got up I thought he was laid out cold and all of a sudden he got up I was like whoa
What it is today social media is making foghters scared to lose cause of all the abuse they’ll get
Moore looked like a completely different person after Duran rearranged his face. That shit was epic and brutal.
Duran is a true legend king and warrior 🥊💯🩸👑
best lightweight of all time
Nah buddy
Best lightweight of all time indeed
And one of the greatest P4P fighters of all time. And that is even being out of shape and 3 divisions above where he belonged haha
Best boxer of all time
FACTS
i could not imagine having the weight of an entire country/culture on my back
One of the all time greats!
SmB Boxing is LEGENDARY!! Love the channel 🥊
Don't EVER underestimate an all time great regardless of his age. MAYBE if he gets around in a wheelchair. They're experienced, and in Duran's case, still tough as stone regardless of power. And then beat Iran barkely
Duran is my lifelong Hero when he fought it was like a holiday at my house when he lost it was like a wake . Thank you for everything Roberto Duran !!!!!
Love this when he lost it was like a wake
Respect to Duran (for his confidence and his skill) and Moore (for taking such a frightening beating without quitting). Deep contempt for that clueless **** of a referee and Moore's corner.
Duran was my favorite fighter of all time and my childhood (I was born in 1960) hero. He was the all time lightweight GOAT, and BY FAR the *smallest* of the "4 Kings".
A little known fact about Duran was he not only had 12 defenses of his title, but also had 22 non-title fights during his reign at 135, winning 21 and avenging the 10 round decision loss (to Esteban DeJesus) twice, both by brutal KO.
He also screwed up by skipping the 140 lb division title, but still found time to knock out champion Saoul Mamby (non-title fight).
The referee and Moore's cornerman should've been arrested. They allowed a massacre.
Cause he’s booking favourite abolsute joke init I know
To me the greatest, there has never been a more charismatic and thrilling fighter than "Hands of Stone" Roberto Duran.
great vid. loved the breakdown. duran really dished out a life altering beat down. Crazy he won a title at 160 too
At 168 also when he defeated Iran The Blade Barkley in a great fight.
Best Latino to ever do it
100 fact
💯 absolute legend
Top 5 of all time
@@msw8966 fact.
When he was at his best Duran would have beat and punished Pretty boy Floyd. Duran would have been all over him. Go and watch Duran vs Leonard 1. Duran has a case for being the best ever that night. Fuckin amazing. In a 15 round fight at lightweight or welterweight no way Floyd wins that fight. Never forget Manos de Piedres
Moore was never the same after this fight.
Davey Ko Benitez in two rounds after this fight
...and Benitez was never the same after that ...
Actually, Moore managed to whip Wilfredo Benitez after his lost to Duran. It's just that Duran was too much for him on this night.
Duran competed with some great Boxers back then. Any setbacks were learned from and he had the heart of a lion to come back even stronger. I was lucky to meet him some years ago. A real Champion.
I grew up with my father a boxing promoter in the mid 70's, he boxed in the 1948-55 era. He told me prior to Duran fighting Leonard in the first fight just watch. In the living room of the house my Dad and his best friend a writer for RING magazine both predicted Duran would beat Sugar Ray. As a Child i thought Ray would win. I grew up that day. Listening to old timers call the fight as it happened was one of my best memories of Boxing. DURAN WAS DURAN. He was a GOAT from 135 had enough balls to kick Leonards ass at 147. IT WAS A MOMENT OF TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! give him credit , Not since than has there been another with the tenacity of the Great Roberto Duran !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved this video, and hope to see the series continue
People dont know Duran had to come down from almost 200 lbs to 147 to fight Leonard the 2nd time. He was weak. But that didnt matter to the people of Panama. There is a superb story called "I am Duran" on Amazon prime movies that explains his life and the Leonard fights.
I think it is common knowledge now that Duran was stitched up by his handlers and by Leonard.
Leonard knew he was out of training and in no condition to fight.
And if Leonard had actually FOUGHT, instead of running, showboating and clowning, Duran would have beaten him AGAIN.
It wasn't so much no mas, as GO FUKK YOURSELF. I CAME TO FIGHT.
Leonard should hang his head in shame. But he is only in it for $$$$$$$, so he doesn't care.
Great video! Excelent editing and story telling! You, my good sir, are of great service to boxing!
THX for the new Video 😍 Epic work as always 👌
Love this boxing channel 😊👊 keep up all the great videos
Duran is a sweet dude.. hes a great guy and im glad he was a champ
Going too love this series, very nice video.
Incredible video mate!

👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥 great work keep it up loveing it
Great video, thank you for your share ❤️❤️👍👍
Duran vs Barkley
That fight was awful to watch to its end. Moore took that beating like a champ, but that kind of fight changes you at your core.
Yea Moore was never the same after that which is a shame cuz he was a very promising fighter
@@somedude3977 He knocked out Benitez the next year, though... and Benitez took his down slide as well too it seemed
Never underestimate the thumb to the eye with 11 seconds left in the first round. But experience rules in boxing. Props to Duran.
@@acela30th wrong..clean punch
@@Bruins-vq5ey Clean punch. Are you kidding?? You're in denial. You'd be better off saying Duran "accidentally" thumbed Davey Moore in the eye
Arguably one of the Top 10 Greatest boxers of All time in any weight class. Probably the GOAT of the Lightweight division.
The Barkley fight is even more dramatic. Roberto did some partying after this one. The following weekend, he and Moore were in studio for the CBS replay of the fight and he looked like he had put on 40 pounds! His face was enormous. Check that one out. It's funny as hell!😅😅😅
Legendary duran
I remember this fight..I was 22 and told my brother that there was no way that Duran would lose to a novice like Moore as long as Duran was in the same shape he was for Cuevas. Well, he didnt disappoint...I could tell within the first minute that the spring in his feet and the snap in his punches and the way he reacted to Moore's punches that he was in shape, and there was no chance for Moore.
'A sobbing Duran' = Heart of gold. Flew IMMEDIATELY to be with dying DeJesus. RFGA, Ph.D.
Great video
Gracias por esa gran cronologia.
We need more content!!
RD GOAT athlete, not just boxer. More skill, bigger heart than any competitor in any other sport. God bless him. RFGA, Ph.D.
I was at the Moore Duran fight. I always thought Davey Moore’s managers should have been arrested for child abuse for putting him in against a man who had more title fights than he had total fights!
Duran Duran !!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Stonehands starts connecting with those chopping rights in R7 and it's all over. Sat Moore down. You just KNOW he saw in training films that Moore carried his left way low. What a joyous night that was in '83! 'Ah, he was an artist out there.' Ray Arcel. RFGA, Ph.D.
I wasn't surprised of the outcome. A fighter that only had 12 fights (Davey Moore) has a snowball's chance in hell in beating a more experienced fighter like Roberto Duran.
13:40 i live for that Mike Tyson fanboy moment. 😄👍
That made my heart warm 😁
Rip to Moore
Muchas gracias, honesta reflexión...!!!
Duran was a savage 🥊
The sound of the pounches of Duran were brutal .Even with thousands of people🥊🥊🔥🔥
Roberto Duran is the greatest fighter of the last 50 years
Sugar Ray is a class act

Apparently Duran shares a bday with Tupac; June 16th.
Im sorry. But this is a boxing chanel. It's Pac who shares the birthday
@@louisbernardo3694 bro let’s not be rude Tupac. A legend
I wouldn't consider T Lopez "win" over Loma an all-time performance. He squeaked by with Loma with a bad wing. Rematch.
Duran was such a God in his prime.
I think what happened with Moore was he was coaxed to fight in the clinch much like Leonard was in the first fight against Duran. The difference was Leonard had enough talent, skill and experience under his belt to weather the storm, while Moore sadly didn't.
Moore's corner should have opposed to him getting up that last round. Losing balance after you've already got up like that is a very bad sign. Should have also prompted the ringside physician to check that the man doesn't just stare blankly or look away if you ask "what corner is your opponent in?" between the rounds.
Duran !! One or greatest ❤💪🏽🙌🏽
Duran is a legend Who fought through 4 Decades from the sixties to the nineties... If he retired after the year two thousand That would make it five... Not sure.
Great performance by Duran. Especially the body work. Worst referee ever.
"Punchers are born not made" this was never so true as it was with Roberto Duran.
Really warms up my heart to see leonard lift up Durans hand after he won, very wholesome
I felt the exact same. I love them both.
Ref was useless and the corner should've been FIRED after this fight.
Shitty ass corner talkin bout “cmon man tell me what’s wrong” smh not even giving him advice telling him to keep his hands up keep moving his head keep jabbing fight on the outside useless ass corner
@@julio87th exactly
How about the fights of Wilfredo Benitez????
All those bodyshots then I looked down and it was only round six.
Lol Leonard had to fake retirement, bribe Durans manager and catch him 5 months later weighing 190lbs, drunk and coked up ..Duran was a BEAST...top 5 atg.
Duran had beutiful leg work! I mean wow! Float like a butterfly?!
I was at this fight and Duran just slaughtered moore I felt sorry for Davey's wife for she was pregnant she was ringside and fainted. The crowd then sang happy birthday to roberto after his victory.
Casius clay! I'm the king of tha worrrrld! Awesome!
Name a better in fighter than Duran.
Leonard, Haggler, Hearns
@@MaxxCoyote Maybe Hagler....but Hearns and Leonard both are better fighting a outside/middle range style of boxing.
@@chayobonilla8974Although one often hears how Hagler was arguably the greatest middleweight of all-time, you rarely see him on top 5 all-time lists. Same goes for Hearns & SRL, by the way. Duran is usually in everyone's top 5. It is written
Ray Robinson might be better but only him...
No one Duran is the best
Duran was dehydrated from having to lose over 60 pounds in a short few months Angelo new that Duran partied after his victories. LOL. Good move Angelo.
Duran was better than Leonard without question !!
Roberto Duran took a dive for more money in the No Maas fight against Sugar Ray
That wasn't the case. We were shocked to witness it back then and we thought all kind of things. Maybe they got Duran's family and etc.. We just couldn't figure it out because Duran was a god of boxing at the time. He had not just too much pride, but all his people behind him. Money didn't mean that much to him at the time. He had more than enough and yet more to come in. He lost all of that that night. Watch one of the movie of his. It might explain you what really happened to him.
@@himawalincat9350 Srl's team outsmarted Duran is what happened...Duran was 200lbs with 3 weeks to lose it...do the math lol. He took pills and made weight but lost more than the fight. Leonard's team outsmarted Hagler as well. Made Hearns wait forever for the rematch and srl was gifted a draw that nite...Duran is in my top 5 or 6 all time ! He lacked discipline in his prime was was absolutely a beast !!
@@anz2441 I know what you are trying to say, but I felt it was more than that. Besides you can't lose 53 pounds in 3 weeks.
Duran, lost weight to fast and may have been to dehydrated.= Cramps
That's obviously what happened, heck, Leonard himself said his best tactic to fight duran was to take advantage of Duran's eating and partying habits between fights.
Yet everyone calls bs and that we make excuses...srl took advantage of Duran and duran lost more than the fight ! Duran had 3 weeks I believe to come down from 200lbs
good to know even back then so called 'fans' and cowards who would never step in the ring would have the audacity to ridicule a great fighter
The best way to make a more mobile fighter lose his legs is to work on his body. Duran had been around forever and he certainly knew that.
i didn't know Richard Pryor was his spokesman, 1:16
To bad they don’t make fighters like him now a days 🤷♂️
Hand of stone is one my personal hero
He got the rhythm back after he cuevas
Before Cuevas..
This referee should be jailed for life. Unbelievable.
