Hi Amy! Patreon supporter here 😊. 5 years ago, when I started keto, my endocrinologist put me on Saxenda, which is a similar drug. It's given to diabetics under the name Victoza. It was a game changer for me when starting keto. Definitely stopped the "noise" in my head. It helps the body become more insulin sensitive and slows digestion. Combined with keto, it helped me lose the first 30 pounds. I stopped taking it after 6 months and stayed keto since. I'm insulin sensitive now, so taking the drug at this point wouldn't make sense. I've lost 70 pounds total with about 20 left to get to goal. Keto isn't really about weight loss for me though, my big why is trying to avoid Alzheimer's disease, which runs rampant on my mom's side. I'm Apoe3/4.
dealing with weight challenges has been a lifelong journey for me. Amy Burger's insights on weight loss drugs resonate with my struggles. her balanced perspective acknowledges the potential benefits and drawbacks of these medications. i appreciate her emphasis on the need for a nuanced discussion about risks and benefits. it's crucial for those facing severe food issues and obesity. the aspect of health is subtly addressed, aligning with my personal quest for a holistic approach to weight management. this video encourages a thoughtful consideration of various tools, fostering a more informed and supportive community.
I feel the problem is the damage this drug can do. Some people have died, some have had to have much of their digestive system removed and most can never feel full again if they go off of this expensive drug. That is scary. The drugs are being promoted because those recommending it are saying that you can't change your genetics through diet.... which is the wrong message and that is the challenge. Keto and carnivore isn't the issue, it's the seed oils and ultra-processed human pet foods that are the problem since they are the reason these drugs are "needed". That's what needs to be promoted... how horrible these capitalist systems are.
My DNA says that I am likely to be normal weight. I have not been for 20+ years. I am guessing that many of those who are told "they cannot change their genetics..." do not have obesity in their genes either.
@@nospringchicken2211 genetics load the tun, it's lifestyle (primarily diet) that pulls the trigger. Basically every human can lose weight by removing seed oils, ultra-processed human pet food and avoiding restaurants… but they need to want to because they're surrounded by trash “food” and marketing to profit corporations but make them sick and fat. It's a lot to compete against.
I'm so glad you made the point that keto does not suit everyone. I felt absolutely sh**y on keto, exhausted 24/7 - I tried everything, more fat, more electrolytes, more calories - it just didn't work for me. I've eventually lost my excess fat from eating high protein and low carb but I absolutely have to keep myself out of ketosis by eating one rice cake with every meal. Thank you ❤
Mounjaro is giving me my life back. I’m down 70 pounds with it and carnivore. If I have to take it the rest of my life, I will. No one blinks an eye at taking insulin for the rest of their lives, yet find problems with this. Yes there are potential risks…. But Not nearly as high risk as being a fat sick diabetic.
Thanks for this video, Amy! You made great points - it is an individual decision each person should discuss with their provider and their use should be part of a plan to change lifestyle, not "stand-alone" treatment. Folks who discuss the adverse effects need to remember the risks of doing nothing for people with obesity - their physical and mental health as well as their enjoyment of life on a daily basis.
Oh Amy. I've admired you for many years. We even spoke on the phone around the release of your Alzheimers book. Thank you for this video. The voice of reason and common sense. You and Dr. Westman are total life changers. Thank you so much. Wish we lived closer to Duke and the clinic. I'm on Mounjaro and so is my husband. It's working splendidly for me but hubby has completely figured out how to out eat the shot. He's very depressed about it. We're both carb and food addicts. He still wants to do the no calorie way and starve himself. Even after all these years of knowing I was following Keto. I help him as much as I can. I think part of my success on Mounjaro is that I had gastric bypass in 2014. Which I figured out how to eat around that too. Hence, Mounjaro. Yes, I've done it all, literally. Now we both just need to figure out the addiction part. Thanks again, Amy. To you and Dr. Westman.
I completely understand your thoughts re: "food noise" needing to be quieted. Carnivore really did help do that for me, where keto did not. I hope those who don't feel carnivore is a solution, or feel like they cannot do keto without the help of such drugs can find the help they need without them. The absolute 100% reason I oppose these (and all) drugs is because I don't support pharma. These brands are pushed daily on news outlets & by govt & food-corp funded orgs whose interests benefit each other, not people. Supporting govt & pharma is the BIGGEST & worst side effect. Sorry, but I can't side w/you on this one. Appreciate you anyway, always have ♥
Oh Amy! I was just going to email you on this subject today, then I seen you had this video posted. I am still not losing weight and thought about trying this as an alternative. There is a lot of people on TIC TOC talking about these drugs. It seems that they really don't understand that if you go back to the way you ate before that it will come back on. I agree with what you are saying, It should be an aid to helping, but they should understand it not a forever cure.

U are correct..I went from 165 to 135 in 11 weeks..that's 11 shots..I had nausea constantly and even projectile vomiting a few times..after being off the shots I gained back 20 lbs in 3 months so there's that
I’ve had 2 staff that couldn’t tolerate the sickness that it causes and their performance doing their job suffered even having to go home sick. I see and believe there’s a big class action lawsuit brewing.
Lean muscle mass is being lost along with with weight which is not good. Also, if people don't learn to eat right, as soon as they stop taking the drug, they regain all the weight.
For the people who get out of metabolic shape by eating moderate amounts of the wrong types of food (high carb / ultra-processed / seed oils etc') then switching to eating moderate amounts of low carb foods might be that magic bullet for them ... but ... for those who can't do moderation, eating binge-quantities of even low carb (especially commercially produced "Keto" bandwagon) foods may be ineffective and permanently shake their faith in the fundamental Ketogenic process ! ... However ! ... There are more and more people (like Kerry from HomeSteadHow) who find that switching from years of failed or low-success Keto to full on BBBE-based carnivore can be their magic bullet because if they DO feel compelled to over-eat, at least they have a better chance of keeping their blood glucose somewhere near "normal" by binging on NO-carb rather than Low-carb ... AND ... the higher protein & fat intake of carnivore may be enough to naturally satiate them keeping that "food noise" at bay thereby allowing time for their natural Glucagon production and Glucagon receptors to perhaps come back into balance ... BUT for those who still can't stick to carnivore and the little devil on their shoulder keeps whispering in their ear, drawing them back to eating crap to satisfy their carb cravings / compulsions / habits etc' ... THEY may indeed benefit from a closely monitored period on a Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. All I'm saying is that for people struggling with Keto, they can go straight to a GLP-1 course if they wish but I think it would be worth giving carnivore a shot first because if it does turn out to be their " magic bullet ", they have avoided the potential side-effects and possible harm of the GLP-1 drugs. But for the people who really need a little GLP-1 assistance then they should definitely NOT be dissuaded or prevented from having it by ANY interfering, self-righteous, finger-wagging, pontificating busybodies. You've gotta do what you've gotta do ! ... and don't let ANYONE stand in your way when it comes to your own body or your own wellbeing and if you need a little pharmaceutical help, there's absolutely no shame in that. Like Amy says, it's all about the risk / benefit analysis 😉
@@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy you might want to rewatch this video, you act like it’s a wonderful option, when in reality you are trading one problem for a slew of other more serious ones.

Yes, I mentioned all that in the video. ✅
Yep..lost 30 lbs in 11 weeks..went off the shots due to projectile vomiting and gained back 20 in 3 months

Did it already ..was agood course
The money people can save by not having to buy and eat so much food can go into buying the drug.
I’m in shock you promote that dangerous crap!!!
"Promote" it? No. Explain it? Yes.
Understand and emphasize with people who are using these drugs? Yes.
