The moment you spoke about the guards being angry, beating up the fisherman and trying to arrest him right after, I knew I have to get this game.
Remember, folks: we only think of villains as "bad guys" because the French aristocracy used the word villein (which simply means a free person who lives on the land) to associate not being a lord with crime.
However, it doesn't help at all to put chidren as servant in your house. 🤣🤣🤣

Hey Splatter! I enjoy the new format of your videos where you go strait to gameplay. Allow me one suggestion, could you please mention the current version of the game? If it just released, hit early access, or if it finally reached 1.0? I usually don't get before early access, so that would help a lot, as i don't have to go look that up! Thanks!

The newest update (the 1.0 release), you have the random 3 families to choose from, but for extra points you can request a family from a certain profession, with a certain skill level, and with 1,2 or 3 generations of people.

when i did buy it it was still in early stages , where there would be economy and stuff but money would be basicly worthless tokens , and most often then not woodcutters would be the richest as wood was used for almost everything , from booking to building to smelting etc.

I figured that this game is one where balancing the privileges and status of your different families is part of your job. There is no equal status before the law or unified taxation system.
Historically, forests were indeed mighty profitable. Letting a peasant have all that and not just keep the forest as your own cash cow sounds weird. In the earlier versions you could give people all sorts of different status with different ways to parcel the land for their use. Nothing said the dudes working in the forest had to own it or its products. Just allowing them to forage for free is a big boon.
It's villeins, not villains.

I was trying to sort Splatt's videos on youtube, and they removed many of the video sorting options, when did this happen, and why???? Does it affect all users? I cant even sort by oldest first anymore...

This reminds me of Odd Realm. Odd Realm is my favorite 🥰 character design and art style in that game is so immersive, plus one gentleman is making the whole game by himself ❤

Is it weird that I feel like we need more games like this for the education factor? Like tht whole thing splatty said about how he loses money on trade giving things away and if it wasn't for the taxes he would be screwed.. it's like yeah that's what government is. Feels good that young gamers can learn like overarching ideals about the world in small controlled doses. I hope they lean into that kinda stuff

Game is soo raw - full of pathfinding bugs - like my village just starving to die bc stuck on the floor... big waste of time for me - progress is soo slow
Lords and Villeins does take things from Rimworld but Rimworld in return takes things from its copy games like Clanfolk
and we owe almost all of it to dwarf fortress :)

If not for the greed of the lord or the (likely manufactured) fear of even more violent barbarian hoardes to justify power authority, why would people abide by subservience to an unelected tax collector? Where's the solidarity? Where's the love? The villeins will be heard! We are not expendable!

Since when are people saying "rimworld-like" and not "dwarf-fortress-like"?
All you have to do is rip off two games to be "original"; dwarf fortress mechanics and prison architect graphics.
yah ikr? in all fairness the rimworld dev talks about DF as his inspiration. and RW is more well known than DF. but i would say that "rip off" is a bit harsh. this looks like its still its own game
