- Count Dooku and Mace Windu were the two most respected Jedi after Grand Master Yoda. Both were masters of their respective lightsaber forms and were strong in the force. Windu used a unique lightsaber form known as Vapaad which was designed to take advantage of a Darksiders fury and use it against them. This is why Windu was able to beat Palpatine. However, Dooku was no ordinary Sith. He was a former Jedi who relied on form 2, the most precise and elegant lightsaber form. Although Windu may be well suited to fighting Sith with aggressive fighting styles, he would have struggled to use Vaapad against Dookus measured form making it very likely that Dooku would win.

Dooku is literally credited as having been the only Jedi other than Yoda to have bested Windu in a lightsaber duel when they were Jedi.

@@ShadowofGod616 In skill he was supposed to be equal to Dooku on even ground according to Yoda six months before the Clone Wars ended. However, that doesn't take Dooku's age into account. The Count was a good thirty years older than Mace and by the end of the Clone Wars Dooku is showing his age as well as the onset of Darkside Degradation(When someone uses the Darkside it is too much for the body and over time it poisons the physical in exchange for the energy power usage). He's confirmed by Lucas and others to be weaker in RotS than he was in AotC(even his choice in attire in RotS is to showcase his fading power as it is a lighter shade of brown than his bold dark outfit in AotC according to the RotS visual guide and BTS dialogue)
So I do agree that Windu would defeat Dooku by the time of RotS, not out of skill alone, but in large part due to Dooku himself getting weaker in power and stamina. A battle between them would be an impasse for a time, but fatigue and age would eventually break the deadlock and that would be the end for Dooku at that point.
Dooku still outclassed pretty much everyone but Sidious, Yoda, Mace and Anakin in terms of pure power even by RotS he's still in the top four most powerful in the galaxy and top two for pure lightsaber skill.

Agreed. Dooku never fully tapped into the dark side making Vapaad less effective, and he was trained by both the strongest Light side and the strongest Dark side user of his time. He probably wins high difficulty.

You forget mace didn't need vapad he also used shatterpoint to exploit weaknesses.. and don't forget mace knew all 7 Saber forms and could easily switch between forms and let's not forget the age difference.. dooku is far older making finding a weakness more likely. There a reason why he ran from extended fights because wouldn't fair in dookus favor

It should also be noted that, Dooku was said to be the BEST Swordsman of the Jedi Order before he left, it was said he bested Mace Windu during Sparring Matches and was the go-to instructor for Swordsmanship training. He held his own against Yoda, that is enough evidence that he is a master duelist.

Not to mention mace knew form makashi.. and again the fight you mentioned he lost and ran from yoda his age would be his down fall.. if u want another example read about th fight with maul and guigon quigon was considered more skillful then dooku and still lost to maul do to age and exhaustion

It's not about just power, it's about skill/lightsaber form/force mastery/mindset, and a big chunk of luck
It's about your skill configuration and application of abilities.
It's complicated in a lot of fictional works. Most people only act like its all matter of fact because most people tend to be dense.

Vaapad wasn't just a form, it was a technique using the force to find the weakness of an opponent using the force and applying pressure through various forms of attack to a specific point. .a shatterpoint...that if hit, it would be the one place that destroys the enemy and his defense completely.
That had nothing to do with vaapad. Shatterpoint was a completely seperate ability windu held which he utilised in conjunction with vaapad. He could just have easily have used shatterpoint with any lightsaber form

I'd go with mace. Apparently when Windu and Palpatine were fighting it was so fast that Anakin could barely understand what was happening. Anakin has comparable speed to Dooku meaning the speed gap between Dooku and Windu would be too much
Windu’s speed against Palpatine was mostly from his vapaad amp. Windu wouldn’t get nearly as strong of a vapaad amp against Dooku as he did against Sidious.

I'm not sure Palpatine genuinely lost to Windu. At least in my head canon, Palps was feigning having been bested as part of his ploy to turn Anakin. He just pops right back up and blasts the shit out of Windu for me to think that he was ever truly vulnerable.
True, all Jedi practice 5 forms by the time they became a Knight, but used one form for dueling. Since form 7 was banned Mace made his own version of Juyo.

Dooku relies on his skill. Rather than the dark side. So I'd go with him as well.
I mean, if you think about it, Mace's lightsaber form was mostly only useful against the lightsaber forms of a sith; But Dooku spent his whole life using a jedi approved lightsaber form, and it would be stupid for Dooku to change it that late in life when he is already a master of a very powerful and precise form. The lightsaber form has very little ties to the dark side, as far as I know, because of how calculated it is. To be that precise and calculated, you need to remain calm, which isn't the way of the sith. Dooku, although he has the powers of a sith, does not fight like one. He doesn't even seem to use rage at all in his lightsaber duels, rendering Mace's form all but useless. The best chance Mace would have to defeat Dooku is if he managed to distract Dooku or make him use rage, but that's not easy to do with the likes of Dooku because of how focused he gets, and how calm he seems to remain. It's like nothing can shake him.

Crazy how that works. Dooku can beat the guys that beat the guys that can beat him. He beat Mace back when both were Jedi, but would likely lose, albeit in a very close fight, against Sidious, who got beat by Mace due to Vaapad. Dooku also beat Obi-Wan with incredible ease every time, and Obi-Wan beat the man that killed Dooku twice.
People need to understand that they're all roughly on par with each other at this level, divided by their preferred style. Makashi does incredibly well against Soresu and Juyo/Vaapad (Obi-Wan and Mace's style), well against Ataru (Yoda's style), but poorly against Djem-So (Anakin's style).

Dooku is such an underrated character. He bested anakin and Obi wan at the same time then held his own against yoda, then ragdolled obi wan again in the third movie. I’m glad he’s getting the shine he deserves from tales of the Jedi.

They fought in one Legends comic but Dooku had magnaguards grab Mace and fall with him into a deep crater while Dooku escaped

Dookus weakness in Form 2 Makashi lies in that it cannot build offensive momentum against an aggressive form like Form 5 as used by Anakin...
In Revenge of the Sith, Windus form is described as lighting fast, unpredictable strikes...taking inspiration from a many tentacled creature from which his form is named...if I remember correctly. Vapaad is capable of overwhelming defenses as was shown in the fight against Palpatine who was said to have mastered all 7 Saber forms. As adept as Palpatine was...if this was true, he would have defeated Mace with the use of form 2. This didn't happen and he was clearly a better duelist than Dooku.
I'm sorry, Dooku loses this one in my observation...

And in adittion to that, yes, Palpatine knowed how to used form 2 but he wasnt as master as Dooku on it. The lightsaber duel result between Dooku and Mace would be a little bit unpredictable but Dooku was a far more powerful in the use of the force
Mace Windu didn't ONLY use Vapaad. He was simply the developer of that form. Mace has shown impressive form 4 and 5 styles in Gendy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars TV show. As we know, that's how Anakin defeated Dooku on the Invisible Hand.

@icarovdl anakin defeated dooku because of 3 reasons:
1: dooku was holding back because it was him and sidious' plan to bait anakin more to the darkside
2: dooku was overconfident and prideful in his 2nd confrontation against anakin and obi wan
3: sidious used his power in a moment to muddle and slow dooku, allowing anakin to catch and disarm him

I think dooku absolutely dismantles mace tbh. I really think the precision of dooku beats mace’s using one’s fury against them techniques. And dooku is fast as hell imagine him trying to just poke you with his lightsaber over and over again, it’d be hard to defend against that. And if he’s able to fend off anakin and obi wan, in a one on one fight I’m sure it’s even easier for him to thrive.

I'm not so sure myself. The problem for me with saying Dooku would win is that the point of Form VII, especially Vaapad, is to turn anything about your opponent's style against them, and in part by feeding off of their energy/fury, but also in a way their approach. That's why there's often a psychological aspect to it. It's also why Vaapad isn't studied by most Jedi, because of the difficulty of this form and it's ability to cause falls to the dark side.
Granted, Form II would be the hardest to go after in this way, but Dooku himself (arrogant, unflexible in many ways) can be taken advantage of. I'd see Mace letting Dooku get over confident, then throwing off his rhythm in the fight before forcing Dooku to fight in a way that was less Form II and more form III and I. Then, Mace would win.
Maybe I'm overstating the power of Vaapad, but I honestly think it's just the best form, but also almost impossible. I also think Form III ultimately has the best chance against VII
It's weird! Yoda trained Jedi for 800 years, lived 900 and did not encounter a Sith until Sidious late into the plot. Mace is far younger than Yoda but achieved a position that Dooku did not achieve in the Jedi order. Mace developed a technique with no Sith to train/practice or develop yet, Mace (according to George Lucas) defeated one of the best dark side users ever! Regardless of form, a Sith is still a Sith and uses the Dark Side of the force!
Did you watch tales of the Jedi? It shows why Mace Windu achieved the rank dooku didnt. Plus being in a higher position in the Jedi order isn’t about strength, as proven by Anakin lol
@@Aegis-_- Because the counsel could not see Anakin's future because it was clouded and because Sidious made a crucial move by appointing Anakin his personal representative on the Jedi counsel was a key dividing factor between Anakin and the counsel. Kenobi told Anakin it would not be long before he would become a counsel member.
Dooku doesn't use the rage the Vapaad turns against the sith, he's a darkside user but a tempered one who isnt full of hate
Mace would still win, he was the best when it came to fighting darksiders because of Vaapad, but he was also able to beat any other Jedi besides in dualing as well. Plus the one time Dooku and Mace came across each other during the CW Dooku literally ran away from Mace. Also Yoda once said that Mace had surpassed him in accomplishments for his age. Mace was also the youngest Jedi to be on the council prior to Anakin, and Dooku wasn't able to accomplish this.
Windu got promoted to the council because he followed the rules. Not because he was more powerful.
Don't forget that Sidious was arguably a better duelist than Dooku, having mastered all the lightsaber forms.
Well according to another video, Sidious’ master felt that Dooku was better than he and sidious.

Makes sense. Not only did Dooku never fully turn (bruh even got regular eyes most of the time), but Dooku is also a very calculated, cunning, and relatively calm person. Also, he has confidence in his style but not to the point where he is arrogant like Anakin, and he's very skilled at it. It's a very refined form and honestly it's just way too calm for Mace to take advantage of.

Mace is the most powerful Jedi of their Council of the Time due to him being the most Dangerous even compared to Anakin (Who hadn't yet mastered his own spontaneity).
Dooku was a master of Form, no doubt, and his own form too, but Windu was a master of Formless and he could control it.
He was one of the very few Jedi who could organise ahead, plan and give orders while engaged in combat in battle. Even Yoda takes a break from battle to strategize often than not.
Windu's weakness was being placid to the leadership of the council like a lamb. The Survivalist in him made him see through the Chancellor - though late, he acted. He always had his suspicions but was too placid and Council-docile to act upon it.

This doesn't really prove he would defeat Dooku. Dooku is the best duelist in the prequel era. He's seen multiple times fighting in lightsaber duels, and coming out on top, or forcing a stalemate in an unfair fight. He has loads of experience dueling actual opponents. Mace doesn't have very many feats in canon. He fought Papaltine and won, which is impressive but there's nothing else besides that. (For lightsaber duels In canon.) Even though Mace beat daddy Palpatine, Mace's form was a direct counter to Sith users. This is probably the main reason why Mace won. In S6 of the clone wars, Dooku fights Obi-Wan and Anakin. During this fight, he forces Anakin on defense, and Obi-wan on offense. By doing this, he directly counters their forms, which allows Dooku to fight them with ease. You can see from this scene that countering a person's form in the best way to beat them in a lightsaber duel, which is how Mace beat Papaltine so easily. So personally, I think Dooku would win. And like your comment says, Mace is a great jedi. But his lack of feats when it comes to dueling forces me to side with Dooku here. (And before you say, Dooku ran away most of the time, which I KNOW HE DID. In fairness to him, most of the fights were really hard. I mean, who ELSE could fight a 2v1 against Anakin AND Obi-wan, and not die? In a battle to the death. And Dooku mostly ran away because he was very old, so he got tired easily against 2 opponents. He should be able to handle 1 opponent. And before you say, what about Yoda, he was 1 opponent, Dooku fought Yoda AFTER fighting Anakin and Obi-wan so he was already tired, so he ran away to not get overwhelmed from fighting 3 people.)

He uses tact before Force; and when he does use force, he doesn't follow rules. Windu is more creative in combat, and that is formidable to a Form master any time.
His fallibility is in him being a sheep to Council protocols.
In Attack of the Clones, Windu had Dooku in Geonosis during the event Anakin, Padme and Obi-wan were to be executed; and without being noticed. He had Council Orders to arrest Dooku not kill him.

Plo is said to be a very skilled and powerful jedi, but we never see Plo in combat, so it's hard to determine how powerful Plo really is. This is the same for Mace, which is why I think Dooku would win, since it's easy to see how powerful Dooku is. I do agree on the Mace show. I was hoping tales of the jedi would focus on many characters we didn't get to see much in the clone wars, like Mace, Plo, and other jedi we didn't see much. Obviously, it only really focused on Dooku and Ahsoka, which are both good characters, but we've seen enough of them in the main show.

Mace Windus signature ability was “Shatter Point” this ability allowed him to look deep through the force and see the ebb and flow of another’s force and also see the point that he could break his opponent. This is what he used on Darth Siddious that’s why he disarmed him.
Windu was the most unbeaten Jedi of his time.

Dooku and Windu fought at the Battle of Boz Pity, but Dooku fled the battle. It was only briefly and Dooku basically used his magnaguards to distract Windu so that he could get away.

@@Mudoh415 The novel is no longer canon, meaning Dooku does not hold back during their last duel. Anakin legit overpowers and defeats him, confirming for Palps he is ready to serve as his apprentice.

@@Mudoh415 Mace is not stronger than Yoda, but they are now on par with each other in canon. Mace is stated to be the most powerful swordsman, while Yoda is strongest overall. Lore has it so only the two of them were able to match Palpatine. Against Windu, Palps made the mistake of trying to beat him at his own game. He failed and it nearly cost him everything.
@@thewarner2139 According to Lucas the 'God' and creator of Star Wars Mace was the greatest lightsaber duelist ever. He defeated Palpatine the greatest Sith Lord. The only way Yoda would be able to beat Mace would be because of Yoda's affinity to the force. Mace has mastered two other forms along with form 7. So, it's good to think about but, Mace would win, Lucas has spoken and anything he says is canon, he is canon.

I think the point of that episode of Tales of the Jedi was Windu was promoted because he followed the mandates of the Council. They didn't want contrarian Jedi like Dooku, Qui-Gon or Anakin on the Council.
That's not true. They offered Qui-Gon a seat on the council and he refused. And Anakin wasn't ready to be on anybody's council.

Dooku is such an interesting character. A shame he wasnt built on much in the film, especially with the amazing acting of Christopher Lee. He absolutely steals all his scene. Rest in peace, absolute legend. Its a shame he himself couldnt go deeper into his character, but it seemed he enjoyed his time with him. And im glad hes be built on so much since
To the people who said why Anakin could beat him but Windu can’t, Anakin uses Djem So. That means that he focuses on heavy attacks to use against his opponents
not to mention that in the novelization dooku was caught off guard by both Obi-Wan and Anakin hiding their true skill with their lightsabers and then switching forms mid battle
Vaapad also uses heavy attacks from random angles. This would be a close fight.

uhh, yoda was crushing him, so he had to run away. we see this clearly in the movie, and even clearer in the book as dooku describes he is being overpowered very quickly, and he realized his old masters strengh and skill. yoda was THE beat duelist.

Hm, I think Dooku would still win. If he could defeat Mace (one of the most powerfull jedis in order) then he would probably easily defeat Plo koon although he was also good jedi.
Mace was a good fighter but mostly trained to use the enemies power against them. Plo Koon as well was an excellent fighter but was stronger in the force then mace. I think that he would remain calm during fights and be actively using the force while fighting. He was able to use force judgment which was weak but that does signify he was extremely powerful in the force. Not only that but he also had the ability to manipulate his surroundings. He beat Yoda in a duel despite yodas expertise in every form. Anakin and maul said he was a great fighter. Anakin himself considered him to be an equal, and he beat dooku pretty much single handedly. So I think Plo would win. Although dooku is a very good duelist

actually mace windu had an ability called shatterpoint and it basically meant that he could find weaknesses in opponents
Mace and dooku did fight a few months before ROTS and neither got much ground on each other so they stalemated.

I've been saying for years that Dooku would beat Windu. Dooku wasn't just a Dark Side user without much real dark immersion, but he was specifically trained in the one lightsaber form that is meant to counter other lightsaber wielders. Not only that, but Darth Plagueis feared Dooku when Dooku was a Jedi, claiming that Dooku could out-duel the younger Sidious and even Plagueis himself. Now, I get that was before Palpatine reached his peak, but it still speaks volumes about Dooku's skill with a lightsaber.

Yes, Dooku isn't as aggressive as other Sith, but he still uses dark side abilities (like force lightning) which requires a user to use their hatred. Therefore, Vaapad might still be effective against Dooku. I'm torn on this one and I wish we could've seen them really fight.

Answer: no, they were about even, even though vapaad (or juyo) strsight counters makashi, and even with vapaad giving the user a dark side amp as a Jedi. That’s why windu gained so much respect for anakin when he killed him, ultimately thinking his decision to end him without trial was correct, which would lead him to doing the same with palpatine.

This is exactly why I think Mace was the strongest. I mean for all the Jedi and Sith that tapped into the dark side and no matter how strong they were,Mace seemed to truly overcome the darkside clouding his mind and maintain focus on taking down whoever the threat was during fights.
Overlooks the fact that Mace mastered ALL lightsaber forms. Dooku is unique in that he incorporates knowledge of all lightsaber forms into his moves but this is to bolster his application of almost pure Makashi, which means he is subject to the main weakness of the form: lack of power from a one-handed grip, and the inability to meet power strikes head on.

That is no proof lol. As far as Dooku was concerned, Mace was not in a favorable position there, before the other jedi/clones showed up.
Dooku never fully surrendered to the dark side. He used it as a tool. It’s best to think of them as equals for most of their lives until dooku was older when Windu had an advantage because of his natural strength and the force couldn’t help dooku as much with his body as he was in his 90s.

Dooku never officially became a Sith. He left the Jedi Order because Dooku felt it was corrupted. So Dooku joined the Separatists hoping to either destroy the Jedi Order, or to restore it to its original purpose.

Agreed, in the movies they should of made him more powerful, but in the clone wars he was a badass. His elegant and dueling form was just amazing. Mace windus vaapad is amazing against dark side forms, but ineffective to light side forms.
