Pretty funny how much Anakin and Dooku hate eachother despite being so alike in their respective jedi days (Except their backgrounds which couldn't be more opposite.). Man, in some alternate reality where Dooku never started conspiring with Palps, I could see him strong-arming the council into letting him train Anakin for the simple purpose of honoring Qui-Gon.

"Steel sharpens Steel."-Palpatine aka Darth Sidious. This means Palpatine was using Dooku to make Anakin better and better in order to be Palpatine's "true" Apprentice. Of course, it also could have made Dooku even better, but I think that due to Dooku's age, it was wearing him down.
Well it worked, we can clearly see a progression in all of their duels, from Geonosis to Coruscant. Every time Anakin gains ground on Dooku
I think Dooku would also hate Anakin for being what he wants to be, Sidious' final apprentice and focus. Like "What does he see in the boy that he doesn't see in me?", you know?

If Dooku didn’t turn to the dark side he would of been the perfect teacher for Anakin just like Qui Gon, but Qui Gon would of made of made Anakin more mentally strong and Dooku would taught Anakin to have even way better light saber skills than he already had and probably would of made him more humble.
I could totally see it being the opposite too. Dooku makes Anakin one of the best duelists, making him even cockier/more arrogant.

I'd enjoy an alternate timeline where both a fallen Anakin and disillusioned Padme defect to the CIS halfway through the war. It is both a depressing morality blow and critical loss of both a great war general and ambassador. Padme's leaving from the Republic Senate and the subsequent secession of the Naboo System leads to a chain reaction of more worlds seceding and claiming neutrality. Anakin under the training of Count Dooku and being partnered with one of his Dark Acolytes are dispatched to defend the planet Naboo from the supplementary Republic warships. And so begins a drawn out planetary battle in a bid to capture Padme and potentially the dangerous traitor Anakin Skywalker.
I wish I was a good writer cuz I'd love to create a whole story about this. The best I can do is make a "short" summary and compilation of important events, locations, and characters. Even with this somewhat limited storytelling style, I love coming up with Star Wars and sci-fi fantasy stories/concepts as a hobby.
Anyways, would you like to see an alternate timeline story like this? Anakin as a dark side apprentice to Count Dooku + Separatist General and Padme as a saddened turncoat Senator + CIS Ambassador. Sounds nutty but it is an alternate timeline after all 🤷♂️

Anakin was a mirror reflecting all the traits Dooku sees in himself that he despises. It's one thing to know that you have those traits but something else to see them looking back at you.

Especially the need to murder anyone under the age of 10 and the burning hatred of Sand! Doku see's those qualities of himself reflected by Anakin, and yet hates those qualities most of all.

Another layer added to my favorite character. That hatred of the former self, the part that must be destroyed to become Sith, seems to be more of a motivation than others. The "chosen one" seems like a Royal title while Dooku is relegated to a mere Count. The high society in Dooku can't resist to hate his "betters". Lots of layers.

Common among fallen Jedi for sure. But not so much with 'pure' sith acolytes.
I so deeply admired Christopher Lee. I wish I could have written for him. And he could have acted (directed, produced, etc.) for me.
If you were in a band of any genre, you should also wish to have had him sing/write/preform for you.
It's the same thing that happened to Vader. Luke reminded him of what he used to be like too but crucially he also reminded Vader of Padme. Luke was basically Anakin if he'd been given all the love, care, and wisdom that he needed.
Its ironic how Obi Wan is arguibly the person Dooku cared for the most who is still alive

Dooku was a perfectionist and Anakin irritated every sensibility the Count had.
Imagine if Dooku remained a Jedi after Qui-Gon's death and became Anakin's master. He would have been a father figure rather than a brother like Obi-Wan, meaning Palpatine wouldn't have been Anakin's father figure either.
I doubt either would have turned to the dark side and Dooku would've listened to Anakin's worries about his mother and allowed and/or went with him to save her.
He also would have understood his marriage with Padmé and would've helped him in any way he could have. They both would've been Grey Jedi and I believe with Dooku on Anakin's side the Jedi would realise their shortcomings and maybe never would have been eradicated.
Specifically in that book he was also jealous of what he perceived as Yoda replacing him with Anakin.
If you were to tell me in 2004 that this random Saturday villain would be one of the deepest characters in Star Wars I would have laughed in your face

The longer version of that proverb explains so much, its easier to understand than the shortened version, I always thought it was something exclusive to the multiple religions that think pride is a sin, but now I see its universal, I never thought I would learn about a proverb in a video about the SW universe.
As for Dooku, it sounds like he hates himself and Anakin for the same reason Vader hated Anakin, for letting himself be fooled by Sidious and allowing his love to be manipulated.
I wonder if Vader would hate or pity Dooku if he found that out? maybe via force ghost...... After all he was the Jedi that taught his master's master, as well as the person who taught the Jedi that freed him from slavery.
Maybe that was also why he was so full of ire every time they fought, because he thought he betrayed Qi-Gon.
Damn honestly I don't think anyone can write/plan Star Wars the way G.Lucas did. I can't believe the episode that turned Anakin into Vader was also the same episode that opened with him executing Dooku.

I can see your point, but I must respectfully disagree. What follows is just my opinion. I will lead off with an old saying of my own, "hindsight is 20/20". I believe that every time the Count faced Skywalker it reminded him of his own life and how arrogant he was. On this point we agree. Where we differ is how he felt about it. Keep in mind the Count is a Sith. I believe that he thought he could have been much more powerful if only he hadn't been so arrogant. Since arrogance is a hindrance to the Jedi way, he believed that he would have been an even more Jedi. Therefore, when he turned he thought he would have been an even more powerful Sith.
As far as his thoughts towards Skywalker, I think he saw how quickly he was growing even with the arrogance and saw what the boy could have been if he could have only let it go. Seeing this caused Dooku's own pride and arrogance to swell up, which caused him to hate the boy.

Anakin being a reflection of who Dooku used to be makes a lot of sense especially with the link to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
If Qui-Gon had lived Dooku would have probably never become a sith and been able to help Anakin with his arrogance by humbling him and making him a better fighter. Qui-Gon was the right father figure but if Dooku was the guy helping Anakin with his fighting skills he would have been a lot more humble via getting his ass kicked as most do.
Palpatine knew Qui-Gon was the glue holding that particular “master - apprentice” chain so tightly knit.

"Twice the PRIDE double the FALL!" Dooku has Twice the pride he had before...so he's going to fall Twice as hard...Dooku could see Visions of the future...so he saw his own defeat and death.
its sounds like dooku would have been a good master for aniken in another universe where dooku never fell to the dark side and instead chose to work from inside the jedi order to fix what he felt was wrong.
The biggest problem with Dooku though, is that he believed that there were problems in the Republic and the Jedi Order that needed to be fixed, but he never saw anything wrong with himself that needed to be fixed. Change always has to start from the inside first, but megalomaniacs always tend to skip that step. That's why they generally end up justifying their embrace of evil philosophies.
I think Dooku felt he was the chosen one. He had great pride. Time was not on his side, but he became so powerful and his intentions so good he thought he would succeed. Anakin was the future/truth he couldn’t handle.
Imagine if Sidious and Dooku just when ahead with their original plans with the empire and order 66 instead of seduce Anakin to the Dark Side. Imagine if Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda where the only Jedi that survived order 66, would Yoda and Obi-Wan face Dooku on Mustfar (Lava Planet), and would Anakin combat the Emperor/Sidious in a Telekinesis Battle in the Senate Chambers (instead of Yoda)?

I think it’s deeper then that, the new canon states that dooku in his youth was over the moon for prophecies and him seeing the “chosen one” prophecy in the flesh is this arrogant boy is what pissed him off and only then underneath anakin blade is when he believed the boy to be the one who ends everything.

Humility is unfortunately something that Anakin never really learned despite his crippling. Had Anakin not been so full of pride and arrogance perhaps the duel on Mustafar might have ended differently.

The only thing that really bothered the Jedi about Anakin was his tendency to be reckless and cocky. It was completely understandable because they were not good traits for a Jedi to have, especially if they had any aspirations to be on the council.

If you really think about it after you add the context of the shows palpatine has been making duku his mentor in the dark side the whole war. All the small tastes of the dark side we see him use between movies now really shows how gradual it was and didn't matter if duku was there to influence it or not Anakin was put into the right head space to indulge himself in the dark side when left to his own devices
