i think he was seven. Cause from my knowledge, in OoT Adult Link is 14 and his timeline is 7 years from the child era. Either way, both are too young for something like that. And people feel bad for Frodo XD
yeah i cryied the first time i watch the scene of the deku tree's death i felt so sorry for Link but i knew on way or another he would set things right
The thankless hero. Saves Hyrule (three times technically: Child timeline, adult timeline, AND Twilight area) and Termina. And literally gets 0 credit for it. Is the most powerful incarnation of the Hero (especially after his time in Termina. The mask >> most other weapons) and again gets 0 credit for it...at least that he knows about. Only in the adult timeline, the one he is no longer in, is he considered a true hero... my fucking heart.
And he is forgotten in the adult timeline because hyrule is erased. The island of outcast (or outlast, I forgot) are the only people that even remotely remember him.
Just think about it... Link still has the mind of a 10 year old and us facing stuff like the Forest Temple, the Shadow Temple, pretty much sees Darunia die against Volvagia and has to part with the only w friends he ever had (Navi and Saria). Just imagine the damn trauma Link must have developped just on Ocarina of Time ALONE. Majora's Mask is even more messed up for him because he constantly sees dead people or people die IN FRONT of him and pretty much has to act like the purgatory of them all. Link has been through some horrible shit.
+Cuccolover Ocarina comes before TP and WW though. But it is implied that both Saria and Darunia are dead (Darunia gets killed by Volvagia on the Fire Temple)
***** Saria I have nothing, that's just an assumption. But the fact that Darunia goes in WAY before you do to fight Volvagia and when you enter he's nowhere to be found implies for the most part that he couldn't keep fighting against Volvagia.
Laser Show515 He still went through all the stuff from the Adult time as a 10yo, and he still didn't have the time to grow up mentally back then. When he's sent back in time by Zelda, he still has the mind of a 10yo that has seen things not even adults should. Everyone he knew (Malon, Zelda, Saria, Darunia) DID live those years and had time to form their personalities etc... Link was still a kid on the body of an adult. He's been through some shit.
your comments make me smile , Idk maybe its because oot direct timeline is the one i grew up with but i feel i must thank u.... fuck it . should be renamed the forgotten timeline
It's sad how arguably the most influential Link wasn't remembered in his era (especially since he was a huge legend in termania and the other two timelines)
I mean when you think about it, in the Child Timeline, there's practically no reason for him to be remembered. Would you believe a child if they said they saved the world in the future, and then of course, that future never happened because it was technically in an alternate universe at that point? It is still sad. You'd think he'd be remembered for at least bringing up the fact that Ganondorf had malicious intent, but still, he WAS just a kid in everyone else's eyes. Plus, it could've also just been that everyone thanked Zelda for it instead, or just the King instead, since I mean...he is the King.
Its even sadder how every casual zelda fan mixes all these links together as if they were the same person They all look extremely similar and share a name but theyre all different people.
In a way, Vortexxy, perhaps being the Hero of Time was a curse. Link didn't belong anywhere--neither among the Kokiri nor among the Hylians. He risked his life as a child and an adult to undo great evil multiple times, losing important individuals to him. While he did vanquish the King of Evil, all his deeds were erased out of 'mercy', and even his cherished companion abandoned him. Then he was forbidden to help fulfill his destiny in a different way when Ganondorf attacked Hyrule castle and was sent away. Then he had to play the part of the hero again, again having no one remember him or what he did. Finally, he settled down only to have everyone around him be completely disinterested in what he had to teach or pass on. I revere heroes, and yet that sounds like an utterly miserable life. Always being asked to do great heroic deeds, and yet none of it was remembered, and no one really cared. I could easily consider that a cursed life. Indeed, having to constantly reincarnate as the hero sounds like a terrible punishment to bear. Really makes one re-consider wanting to be the hero.
I agree. My favorite link has to be the hero of time because he's got the best story. His story is a tragedy, of someone who's swept in time's unforgiving grasp and tasked with helping people without reward or remembrance. He saved the land of Hyrule and no one appreciated him. He wanted to pass on his skills but he did such a good job as the hero, there was simply no need at the moment. The hero of time was taken for granted and I totally understand why he had regrets, why he wasn't able to do right by his legacy. The only silver linings to his life I can think of is that he found a wife (most likely malon since TP link works as a ranch hand and knows eponas song) and was able to eventually pass on his skills to TP link. I can't imagine the pride the hero of time felt when he finally gave all the tools his descendant needed to save Hyrule and that for once his legacy would be remembered. TP link was everything the hero of time hoped for and I believe that despite all the shit the hero of time dealt with. After seeing how badass TP link became, he would gladly do it all over again.
I think it's possible that The Hero of Time might've viewed himself as cursed. He spent most of his childhood being bullied by complete jerks, his greatest feats are left unknown by those in his current timeline, his children were probably content with whatever they were doing and had no desire to carry on his legacy, the list goes on. Basically put, the Hero of Time led a rather crappy life, so it's possible that the "cursed swordsman" might actually be the Hero of Time; it's just that he's not cursed in a literal sense.
Isn't his final chapter in Twilight Princess? I've never played the game and am judging it off what I see here, but it looks like his resolution was knowing that he eventually did get a predecessor, the world was going to be saved, and he could return to the dead peacefully(?)
Viktor Lecter After saving Termina, Link return to Hyrule. However Hyrule was entering the Hylian Gerudo war. OOT Link join the war effort as highest rank of knights in Hyrule castle and also married Malon while Lon Lon ranch was destroy when the war was over. Link and Malon then created Ordon village and 100 years past and you get TP Link.(But that's just theory)
I guess that's why he's wise af AND MY HEART MY FREAKIN HEART IT ALL SHATTERED TO PIECES I MEAN, THE HERO OF TIME IS THE MOST TRAGIC LINK FROM ALL The others are like, "You are the hero and you must save Hyrule!" and after saving Hyrule, "Hooray! Link saves Hyrule!" and probably gets Zelda's kiss The Hero of Time, however, was not recognized as a hero. He was alone, and he felt a lot of guilt. I mean he's still a ten year old child! A CHILD. And he have to go through all of those. "The most damaged is the wisest" And I'm still collecting the pieces of tri- I mean -my heart
THIS IS HOW I FEEL. Omg 😿😫 My heart is soooo sad knowing that the hero of time lived his life with regret. & that's what makes him the best hero to me. Because he did things for everyone else, not himself. & that's what makes him the best Link in my opinion. Because of how amazing he was.
naryle the hero of twilight looked like he didn’t get along with zelda so they didn’t mate, I think the hero of twilight may have been buried deep into depression as midna left him but your right the hero of time had the most tragic back story of all.
I feel the glorious spirit of Zelda in you videos Vortexxy. You have the most beautifully edited and intricate Zelda theory videos by far. HMK, RMFH, Zeltic, Macintyre, Gameover Jesse... You are at the top of the heap!
I really like how in twilight princess the undead hero of time calls the protagonist “my child” because that is his child, his GREAT GRANDCHILD to be exact. And so it was that 100 years after the events of ocarina of time that The hero of time’s Great grandson, the hero of twilight finally helped his great grandfather find peace.
The Hero of Time has always been my favorite version of Link. The fact that after being sent back that no one remembered what he did, and yet he still dedicated his life to helping people shows the kind of hero he is.
Ironically, the "forgotten hero" is the most iconic hero in the zelda franchise! I hope they can make a sequel to Majora's mask. (Either Twilight era or not) I want to revisit that land
i love how the hero of twilight was also in turn able to help the hero shade aka hero of time ease his guilt and regrets so he could finally get the peace in his heart he deserved
This video is even more upsetting with everything considered.. R.I.P Vortexxy, you were one of my fav theorists, your voice was sooo soothing and thus you videos interesting and relaxing to watch.
Yes, but there was no way for Zelda to know that would happen. Sure, she has prophetic visions, but from what I've seen, they either didn't occur often or they were ambiguous. She seemingly didn't have clear-cut visions of what would actually happen if a certain event occurred.
Mah heart, my lung. 😩😔😿 I felt the sense of happiness when I had beaten Ocarina of time & Majora's Mask when I was younger because I thought Link was the true hero & I always thought that the hero of time's timeline was gonna have no more Ganon trying to rule Hyrule. This really makes me sad now as I watched this video to know that the Hero of Time had lost his childhood, had no family, had no friends & lost his home. To think of all the pain he felt knowing he was a cause of all this when that was the last thing he wanted to do & he was just a child. 😿 Poor Hero of Time. I feel so sad to hear this.. But in my opinion, after playing all the Zelda games, the Hero of Time will always be the true hero inside of my heart because he was strong. He did things without any recognition & he saved the world sacrificing his own self & his own childhood. He has been through so much shit but he will always be the true hero to me! Much respect to the Hero of Time. I wish I could give him a hug😿
The sad thing is, people don't seem to like the Hero of Time anymore. He's my absolute favorite and if Nintendo made a new game with him, I would buy it in an instant. But, Nintendo seems to hate him too...
Pakhou Lee hey you would love to see this fanmade animation part 1, 2 IT'S AWESOME !!!! ua-cam.com/video/45ZzecRsIrs/v-deo.html And don't forget to see the part 2 :'-( it's so heartbreaking :/
Well the Hero of Time did had friends, love ones and people he wish protect. But he did lost his family to fires of war, the deku tree dies and in the end the Gerudo-Hylian war breaks out. Yes he went though a lot of hardships in life. But found justice and truth in land of Hyrule. Plus he did got married possibly to Malon. But never got chance to pass on his skill to the next generation. In till TP Link came to picture. HoT Link gain and loss so much. But found peace in life😳😔😊(Your words touch me thank you)
Saddest part is Navi didn’t disappear. She was born to help Link save Hyrule the day he did so her purpose was fulfilled and she died. All through Majoras mask Link is looking for someone who is already dead.
Very nice video but I disagree about the hero of time/heroes shade not being the cursed swordsman in the ground. What's truly sad about the HOT is that nobody knew about his legacy, this is why he is buried without any recognition because the king and his soldiers took care of Ganondorf, Link was just a kid. When eh reached adulthood and there was peace, he lived with his wife as a rancher. He might have become a Hylian knight and lost his eye as a result of some other conflict we are unaware of. The important thing to realize is the hero of time was not a hero in the child timeline and that's why he is a cursed swordsman. Cursed by fate, no one will ever know how great he is or what he did.
The Trolldier No way their respect was crushed, remember in wind waker they make their young boys wear the hero of times green garb and the HOT statue is the entrance to the master sword.
Phenomenal work on this theory! My heart is so heavy for The Hero of Time but, also filled even more with respect for him and his actions too. I feel you clearly explained the connectivity of the 3 games and the gravitas that Zelda's actions at the end of OoT had on the events to come. I love the clarity of your videos too. This is my favorite video of yours to date. thank you so much.
he mentally aged and matured beyond the realms of a normal hylian......with all the time travel and struggles from ocarina of time he became a battle hardened warrior yet still had the body of a small child....then in majoras mask he repeated many years and grew even more so.....not only from the time travel but from the furthered hardship he had to endure plus the realization of another world existing outside the one he knew ....on top of the burden of connecting with the spirits of fallen warriors as well as those of the entire population of termina.....the hero of time truly was a warrior of greatest resound
This is really great! But the other Kokiri were nice to him; the only one who wasn't was Mido. One taught him to throw rocks, and one of the girls was excited for him when he got a fairy and taught him how to target. Also Link was friends with Skull Kid from OoT first, not MM.
Your videos always make me teary-eyed! The "...my child" at the end really seals the deal on this theory. I can't wait to finish playing through Twilight Princess HD!
Now this was an amazing theory. I never perceived that the Hero of Time's own mental state would be one of regret, but the way you phrased the Great Deku Tree's death, the Adult Era, and his return to youth all lined up very well and since he likely did repeat many of his previous actions as you mentioned there must have been a feeling of repetition on his shoulders as well. What gets me the most though is your theory about Link protecting Kokiri Forest because he had been told by the Royal Family to stay out of their current affairs and that the Kokiri eventually chose to take the visage of normal Hylians. That is a powerful sentiment, both from Link and the Kokiri themselves. It seems something that Link would do and it would fully explain where the Kokiri were in TP. This has been one of your best theories yet!
And people ask me why I am so in love with this series that I got a tattoo of the Triforce on the back of my left hand - this is not just a game series, it is an amazing, moving work of art that brings to life in the most amazing way the never-ending struggle of good versus evil. The timeline may not be fantastic, but you can see where they clearly intended certain games to take place with stuff like this, and Vortexxy, you did a fantastic job with this - shame I'm two years almost to the day late to the party.
I'd like to think that Link was able to find some sort of hapiness after he returned from Termina. At some point, Link had to have returned Epona to Lon Lon Ranch. Talon and Malon may not remember all of the deeds Link had done to save Hyrule, let alone Termina, but they appreciate what he had done to help them when they needed it. That and they genuinely like and accept him for who he is. I could see Talon offering to take Link in if he knew Link had nowhere to go, and Malon of course would be gitty as could be to have him there. Link has a lot of conflicting feelings about his purpose, but I'd like to think his desire for a home would lead him to taking up that offer. After all, Link's descendant in Twilight Princess is a rancher, so this could be where it all started.
tss3393 I agree plus this could happen as well. After saving Termina, Link return to Hyrule. However Hyrule was entering the Hylian Gerudo war. OOT Link join the war effort as the highest rank of knights in Hyrule castle and also married Malon while Lon Lon ranch was destroy when the war was over. Link and Malon then created Ordon village and 100 years past and you get TP Link.(But that's just a theory)
Here the link to my fanfiction story: www.fanfiction.net/s/13346945/1/The-Legend-of-Shade It explains what happen after Majora's Mask and the Hero of Time aka the Hero Shade. Through my point of view. providing key information such as the knight family bloodline, the Hylian and Gerudo war and many more. This story is something every Zelda fan and theorist alike will enjoy. (Also some Link x Malon romance moments)
Wow this video made me think a lot and not going to lie, made me shed a tear since I didn't realize that Link did everything and all of his achievements have become erased when he goes back in time. Man, powerful stuff. Keep making more videos Vortexxy! You're awesome!
I come back to this channel every once in a while just to hear your sweet voice. May you rest in peace vortexxy. I wish you could have gotten to play breath of the wild. I wish you could see what Zelda has become.
@@efrainamezcua7594 according to some of her collaborators, she passed away in a car accident this time back in 2016... she is dearly missed 😔💙 youtube.fandom.com/wiki/VortexxyGaming
YAASSSSSSS I LOVE YOUR VIDEOSSSSSSSSSSSS I CRY lol omfg the music fits this video so fricken nicely ... That first song ... I need it D: I hope you're doing well !! I miss conversations with you ;o
MemeMations HOLY SHIT! WHEN!? HOW!? WHY GOD!? well, at least I know she is playing BOTW in heaven and is trying to figure out the timeline just like the rest of us...
According to Cuccolover, her friend and close collaborator, it was a car crash... although don't expect any more info, since they've sworn not to tell any more since Vortexxy didn't want people to know her personal info: youtube.wikia.com/wiki/VortexxyGaming
Link the hero of time is most experenced link -ocerena of time -majoras mask -super smash bros (n64) -super smash bros melee -soul calibur 2 And he has impact in all zelda games -twilight princess hero shade -wind waker the legend of the hero that inspires toon link -Skyward sword carfted the hero of times primery weapon -breath of the wild hero of times tunic -hyrule warriors hero of times tunic and his version of master sword and as a child with masks Hes the only link to craft a sword thats stronger then the full power master sword with the help of the goron giant biggoron (though it was erased when time was reset) But he got an extra year of traing because of the broken ganon future thus he has the best training and then he turned to a skalfoss sprit(hero shade) And learnt more abilitys from his future incarnation(hero of twilight) Also he was the only hero to unlock the true power of the master sword And link lived longer as mask tranformations stop ageing as they freeze the users age at how old the mask spirits were when they died
@@danwhite94 marvel ultimate alliance doesn't count, link was demoed for the game but nintendo demanded he not be included on the gamecube port because they had link running on the playstation build. So hes not actually in any copies of the game. I already mentioned hyrule warriors And lastly smash ultimate is the hero of the wild from breath of the wild, not the hero of time.
I'm never looking OoT, MM, and TP the same way now. Link needs a hug. I thought these very same things. He's just a KID! A KID GOD DAMNIT! I swear it's like Demise's curse was only to Torture those who bear the Spirit of the Hero...but it affected the Hero of Time (OoT) the most....
I played this game when first released. I’m 37 years old now and I’m crying about this theory….I replayed ocarina of time and explored the game for fun without ever realizing the trauma my hero was going through. I really hope my link was happy while we fished for hours 😢
I love your videos @vortexxygaming, please continue to produce this kind of high quality zelda videos! D: yours are, by far, the BEST feels like watching a movie...
Sadly, we are unlikely to see any more of Vortexxy's work, since she has been missing for over 2 years and two of her closest friends/collaborators have stated that she passed away in a car accident in 2016: youtube.fandom.com/wiki/VortexxyGaming
It never really hit until now that the hero’s shade’s final words were his way of saying “I’m proud of you my son.” Which really hits home for people who have fathers who are protective like that.
Another sad detail that like the dead soldier is often overlooked unless you talk to everyone you meet as different story events unfold is what Mido says after saving Saria. "Oh...I see... Saria won't ever come back... But... I... I made a promise to Saria... If Link came back, I would be sure to tell him that Saria had been waiting for him... Because Saria...really... liked... Hey, you. If you see him somewhere, please let him know... And also... I'm sorry for being mean to him. Tell him that, too." Despite how cruel he came off it's good to remember that this guy was the chief of the village the only person ranked above him was the Deku Tree. He was trying to protect his village but didn't trust Link and when he realized that Link was actually a nice guy and was willing to apologize for being harsh to him he doesn't even recognize Link. All he sees now is a random hero that saved the forest. Because 7 years passed and Link now looks taller he doesn't recognize him anymore. I don't know what's more sad. This little exchange with Mido or Shiro's death in the back alley. Good gosh this game is dark. Also at the end of the game you can sort of see Mido being sad and alone. While everybody is celebrating the defeat of Ganon Mido just is on the sidelines all sad. King Zora though sits down and comforts him reassuring him that he will always have friends. Friends who are not just Kokiri but other friends from outside the forest as well.
It is sad how link the hero of time actually died and became hero shade and how he was never really considered the hero of time from other as he went through time having people only in the future know him in until he came back and no one knew he saved them in the future. 😢 And I like how we can finally know link really did talk
I know most likely no one will see this, seeing how this video is 8 years old and inactive, but I just wanted to share a few feelings I have about it. I've seen so many videos about the Hero of Time's life, from people like CommonWealth, HMK, and Zeldom, but I never felt like the endings of the Hero of Time's life they presented felt right to me. Even MajorLink's Heros Purpose, while beautifully animated and composed, I just feel does not get the story right for me, as I think it kind of under values Majora's Mask story. This theory is different, I feel it just clicks with how I feel the Hero of Time spent the rest of his years alive, maybe its because of its more happy ending than the others idk. All the others mainly say that he died in battle during the Geurdo-Hylian War, but it just never felt right to me that he would just die as some solider in battle, after all he has been through. This one I feel its the mark in being bitter sweet, like how most N64 games end, being tragic, but not too tragic like other theories of how he died. Thats it, I just wanted to share my feelings about this 8 year old video, Rest in Peace Vortexxy, and thank you for what you gave us.
ahh, really excited to see a video from you, vortexxy! seeing how much thought and love you put into these videos reminds me of my school friends and I, who used to think we were the only people who could poSSIBLY love these games so much youtube needs a weekend-long zelda-playthrough sleepoverrrr uvu
Such a fitting tribute for the most beloved hero of Hyrule, well by the fans that is. He has the worst wrap of all in the games. He broke the space time continuum. In one timeline he died. In another he is known as the hero that abandoned them. And in the timeline he knew he was not recognized for saving the world either of the two times he did it. He was just that guy that opened Dodongo's cavern, and saved the Zora deity from a very bad bellyache. These two feats are hardly the extent of his accomplishments. A popular theory for Breath of the Wild is that it is the hero of time who fell to Ganondorf. Although it won't give him any rest in the child timeline, it could give him a chance to redeem himself in the downfall timeline.
FANTASTIC video! I was aware of most of this already, but the deeper perspective that you put this in made it so much better! you haven't had a single bad video yet! :)
this was super well done. from the beginning second to the last frame - one of my favorite videos your did. so much emotion behind this, i have a new found respect for the hero of time
I am sorry Vortex, while I think you do an amazing job I feel that there are a few holes on this theory that need to be filled in. The first is the ending of Majora's Mask. You like many see the ending and say 'Link is returning to Hyrule.' The issue I have with that is that you never actually see Link return to Hyrule. Instead we are given an image of Link riding through some dark woods towards a bright light. By looking at the background trees we can see this is the same forest where Link and Skull Kid's picture has been drawn showing of their friendship. Due to this drawing being something drawn most likely by Skull Kid himself I believe we can guarantee this is a Termanian forest. That is the last image we are given. Now Link arrived in Termina from beneath the clock tower and therefore would be the most likely location for him to return to Hyrule from. Another issue I have with your theory is that you, again like many, see Link's return from the future to the past as the moment when he went to the future. Now this is sadly a misunderstanding in the timeline. As I am sure you know when Link heads into the future Zelda has already run from the castle with Impa and Ganondorf has given chase. If you were returned tt he moment than Zelda would not be in the garden at the end of the game. Though, once again as you must know, the last image of the OoT is Link running into a smiling Zelda in her garden. This means that the end of the game shows an image that takes place before Link has collected all the stones and returned to the castle. Instead this is how I think the split occurs. You as Link1 have defeated Ganondorf and are sent back in time to warn the royal family and live the life you lost. It is in the garden as Impa takes away your past self aka Link2 that you step forward. Zelda truns back surprised and smiles at you to ask if there is anything else you need explained to you. Instead you imform Zelda that you are not the boy who has just walked away and what the future entails. This is when the choice is made Link1 and Zelda try to convince the King that Ganondorf is evil and he doen't believe you. Being the hero you are even though you had to leave behind the triforce of courage and the mastersword you stand to fight and give Impa and Zelda the chance to escape. It is as she is ecaping that Zelda throws the Ocarina of time into the water for Link2 to get. It is after this point that the story progresses as we know it. It is also why in the adult timeline Link1 isn't around after Link2 has been sent back to the past. Now if Link1 and Zelda are able to convince the King that Ganondorf is evil the scene plays out like this in my opinion, and also because of the grandfather clause of time travel. Zelda and Impa race from Hyrule Castle with Ganondorf on their tale and lead him into a trap. It is there that Ganondorf is wounded and retreats to the Gerudo desert. Link1 being to young to take part in a war is reward for his wisdom and let him leave to head back to his people in the Kokiri forest. After all the last time he saw Saria he left her in the forest temple. It is on his way back that he runs into Skull Kid and Link1 ends up in Termina never to return. While this was going down Link2 has entered the temple and fallen into sleep. The triforce of power escapes during this time and goes to Ganondorf allowing him to break free, kill one of the sages, and end up in the Twilight realm. It is at this time that Link2 is awakened and learns the fate of Hyrule. He slept for seven years and in those seven years the world has moved on without him. As an adult he can't really return to the Kokiri and as he has not returned to awaken Saria as a sage the Deku sprout has not grown. Without a way to go and knowing only to fight Link2 joins the Hyrule army and adds many skills to himself. After a time he ends up marrying and raising children of his own. Finally due to old age and not battle Link2 is laid to rest. Regret filling him as he never got to save Hyrule or pass on his skills as his children had no care for fighting. When TP Link comes forward Link2 is able to regain his honor by training the newest hero, passing on skills he learned while part of the Hyrulian army. I of course agree that he left his bow with the Goron and his Tunic, and adult size tunic that he got from the Sage of Light leaving it to the Spirit of Ordon. The Kokiri become the villagers and the fairies the monkeys.
Wonderful video! The fact of a forlorn and restless Hero of Time in Twilight Princess can only be accounted for by some great sadness in (Hero of Time) Link's life that was never addressed, and I think you do a good job of imagining what that might entail. Personally, I think the key to it all is the Triforce itself--the Power of the Gods. In both legend and real life, the touch of great power changes a person's life forever, and oftentimes those changes are cold, alienating, and otherwise deeply adverse. Link, having known the power of the Triforce and having held the balance of the world in his own hands, may very well never have been able to go back to an ordinary life. Even though he tried--building a family, for instance, presumably with Malon--he was too deeply aware of the fate of the world, and, in addition, you do a wonderful job of illustrating how Link may have been actively alienated by virtually all quarters of Hylian society. Being noble and honorable, Link could never escape into a life of debauchery or personal enrichment. Nor could his family relieve him of his burden, and, as you speculate, may even have contributed to his woes by virtue of his children's indifference to his burden. (Though, personally, I would like to think that he had a great happiness with his family--no one could have someone as caring, wise, and playful as Malon for a partner and not be at least a little happy.) Ultimately, though, he died with his regrets unconfronted, and lingered as a spirit. Thank you for another great video!
At the part where princess zelda was going to play the song of time to send link back in time, he should of grabbed the orcarina and told her to stop and that he wants to stay in the future with her.
I don't consider much of "Hyrule Historia" canon. The number of basic knowledge mistakes are infamous. But again, 80% of Zelda canon can be answered as "depends on your source" The in-game history never shows the Hero of Time with regret, or bitter about his role. In fact, as the embodiment of Courage , he accepted every task without even blinking. However, is also important to say there's a Link in the Downfall timeline that literally went for a retirement, disguising himself and his true identity, Obi Wan style.
Vortexx's vids are so awesome, I love them! seriously, hearing tons of good zelda lore/theories, and if I close my eyes while I listen, it sounds like BMO is teaching me about the history of zelda... pure....AWESOME
Love your videos and Zelda theories Vortexxy! This one was a real tearjerker! I grew up with the very first Zelda games back in the eighties so would love to see more stuff explored in the downfall timeline with some love for the good old eight-bit games :). I hope the upcoming Breath of the Wild game will take place in that timeline and perhaps that this Link will be the Hero of Time being given another chance. :) Keep up the good work!
So Kokiri Forest and Lost Woods became Ordon village, and faron woods. The Kokiri evolved into humans and the Deku Tree sprout died and became the new forest temple explaining the kokiri symbol on the doors. Mind blowing.
I think the Deku Tree sprout sacrifice himself to protect the Temple of Time, Scared realm and Forest temple. He ask his Kokiri children to join him and protect the forest and become monkeys or join Link and Malon to become humans and live happy life's and leave your fairy behind.
In the game Twilight Princess both temples were near forest and homeland of HoT Link and TP Link so their be reason why those landmarks are their. Maybe when the Hylian and Gerudo war started with Ganondorf forces ambushing Hyrule castle. But Ganondorf didn't set foot in the Temple of Time or Sacred realm because he didn't had keys to open their doors. So to make sure it kept safe he sacrifice his life force to protect the temples from evil forces.
I was so excited when I saw that you had a new video, and let me just say that your videos are nothing short of amazing! Your channel is the best, and definitely one of my top favorites! Fantastic job on them all, and keep them coming! You have a huge fan right here! :D
Always eloquent in your thoughts. Thank you for yet another beautiful video. The legend of zelda was my childhood, and I thank you for keeping it alive in my heart.
But it seems Hyrule has a war with Termina, gaining only Snowhead as evidence of Snowhead mountain being in Twilight Princess. Maybe Link returned from Termina only to become a soldier once more, he was torn because he had to fight the land he desperately tried to save. He probably died or lost his eye in battle. And he probably has experience with the Twilight, because he has full control over his wolf form, which you get by having the Triforce of courage and entering the Twilight realm.
And that's why I like you and your channel and your videos. Amazing video! The way you do it sounds more like a Fact than a theory. I just feel bad for Link...
The thing that makes me so sad about this theory is that when I was exited and happy during my adventure in ocarina, my hero was not.
Same
+BlazikenLink99 Well said.
i mean, he was ten... he went through some tough s**t.
i think he was seven.
Sad Life.. with that the Hero of Time's legacy is erased..
+Melvin how is it erased?
+steven who told you Hyrule was erased? did they put that in the Historia?
+Little Yoshi Hyrule has vanished under the great sea. remember?
But it is implied that both Saria and Darunia are dead (Darunia gets killed by Volvagia on the Fire Temple)
actually links 9 in ocarina and 12 in majora.
because search it up.
Hero of time is the best hero
True dat
your comments make me smile , Idk maybe its because oot direct timeline is the one i grew up with but i feel i must thank u.... fuck it . should be renamed the forgotten timeline
FullMetal Bat You mispelled the hero of trains
Though the Hero of Twilight (?) had always been my favourite, I can't help but agree.
FullMetal Bat He is, he went through the most hardships in my opinion
Its even sadder how every casual zelda fan mixes all these links together as if they were the same person
They all look extremely similar and share a name but theyre all different people.
Yshrenian Knight I wish Link Used The Ocarina OF time to return to the adult timeline
He may of not been remembered on his era, but he will forever be remembered in our hearts.
since Termina was an alternate dimension, no one in Hyrule would ever be able to confirm Link's stories.
Basically put, the Hero of Time led a rather crappy life, so it's possible that the "cursed swordsman" might actually be the Hero of Time; it's just that he's not cursed in a literal sense.
its theories like these that makes me want to see a sequel to majora's mask and the final chapter to the hero of time
I agree
+Corny Kins very much so YES
Couldn't agree more..
We need it and link needs it
Isn't his final chapter in Twilight Princess?
I've never played the game and am judging it off what I see here, but it looks like his resolution was knowing that he eventually did get a predecessor, the world was going to be saved, and he could return to the dead peacefully(?)
Imagine a more mature game featuring the hero of time as an old swordsman with an eyepatch and at the end he dies.
Viktor Lecter i will cry
Viktor Lecter After saving Termina, Link return to Hyrule. However Hyrule was entering the Hylian Gerudo war. OOT Link join the war effort as highest rank of knights in Hyrule castle and also married Malon while Lon Lon ranch was destroy when the war was over. Link and Malon then created Ordon village and 100 years past and you get TP Link.(But that's just theory)
Link.......had a hard life.
Cotter Shy He needs some time to rest......
We hope you have managed to find peace, too, Vortexxy.
❤💔❤🩹
I guess that's why he's wise af
AND MY HEART MY FREAKIN HEART IT ALL SHATTERED TO PIECES
I MEAN, THE HERO OF TIME IS THE MOST TRAGIC LINK FROM ALL
The others are like, "You are the hero and you must save Hyrule!" and after saving Hyrule, "Hooray! Link saves Hyrule!" and probably gets Zelda's kiss
The Hero of Time, however, was not recognized as a hero. He was alone, and he felt a lot of guilt. I mean he's still a ten year old child! A CHILD. And he have to go through all of those.
"The most damaged is the wisest"
And I'm still collecting the pieces of tri- I mean -my heart
THIS IS HOW I FEEL. Omg 😿😫 My heart is soooo sad knowing that the hero of time lived his life with regret. & that's what makes him the best hero to me. Because he did things for everyone else, not himself. & that's what makes him the best Link in my opinion. Because of how amazing he was.
naryle the hero of twilight looked like he didn’t get along with zelda so they didn’t mate, I think the hero of twilight may have been buried deep into depression as midna left him but your right the hero of time had the most tragic back story of all.
Link Faron I think one regret story Link is enough for Zelda games and timeline if you ask me. Why can't the hero have damn happy end come on people.
naryle you make me a tears :'(
Vortexxy you will live in my heart forever as one of the greatest Zelda theoreticians ever! May your soul have a peaceful rest my friend 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
She passed?
@@james-ud9lpyeah
What happened? 😭
I feel the glorious spirit of Zelda in you videos Vortexxy. You have the most beautifully edited and intricate Zelda theory videos by far. HMK, RMFH, Zeltic, Macintyre, Gameover Jesse... You are at the top of the heap!
They're also the only theory related channel I watch.
Wherever you are, and with all my love, you are still my favourite theorist.
RIP vortexxy. If i had the ocarina of time, i would go back in time to save you
If only we could save and load IRL...
lifes40123 I don’t think that’s how the ocarina of time is used but I do miss vortexxy
This video is even more upsetting with everything considered.. R.I.P Vortexxy, you were one of my fav theorists, your voice was sooo soothing and thus you videos interesting and relaxing to watch.
wait, she died?
I like the idea that the hero of twilight would later pass on tales of the hero of time, thus so Hryule could remember him as a hero.
You were the real hero, Vortexxy. Wherever you are
EXACTLY! I never understood why Zelda thought it's a good idea to send him back... poor Link :/ and after Navi left him too I felt so sorry for him...
So hyrule would not suffer through Ganondorfs reign, as it never happened
+Jack Rooz Didn't that version of Hyrule get fucked up anyways?
Yes, but there was no way for Zelda to know that would happen. Sure, she has prophetic visions, but from what I've seen, they either didn't occur often or they were ambiguous. She seemingly didn't have clear-cut visions of what would actually happen if a certain event occurred.
Oliver same :(
@@Kelaiah01 Also If she didn't send OOT Link back in time. Skull kid/Majora's Mask would've destroyed Termina.
Loved it. Very well done!
Oh, hey! I have watched your videos, and I own a ocarina myself.
Pakhou Lee i love you
The sad thing is, people don't seem to like the Hero of Time anymore. He's my absolute favorite and if Nintendo made a new game with him, I would buy it in an instant. But, Nintendo seems to hate him too...
Pakhou Lee i agree with you :(
Pakhou Lee hey you would love to see this fanmade animation part 1, 2 IT'S AWESOME !!!!
ua-cam.com/video/45ZzecRsIrs/v-deo.html
And don't forget to see the part 2 :'-( it's so heartbreaking :/
And even in the future timeline, his efforts simply led to another war and a Great Flood.
The Trolldier At least he is acknowledged as the legendary hero in the future timeline.
nworder4life True, but he let down his worshipers by not being there to stop Ganon, likely crushing their respect for him.
The Trolldier No way their respect was crushed, remember in wind waker they make their young boys wear the hero of times green garb and the HOT statue is the entrance to the master sword.
nworder4life Oh, right. I suppose that makes sense. (Except the statue in Hyrule Castle was most likely built before the Great Flood)
Rest in peace Vortexxy... I will ALWAYS love your videos

wow VortrexxyGaming you are an amazing storyteller
Yeah, she was... she's dearly missed
Ok whatever.....I didn't need to cry right before work.....
Stupid water coming from my eyes
After all, Link's descendant in Twilight Princess is a rancher, so this could be where it all started.
tss3393 Love that theory :,)
tss3393 I agree plus this could happen as well.
Here the link to my fanfiction story: www.fanfiction.net/s/13346945/1/The-Legend-of-Shade
It explains what happen after Majora's Mask and the Hero of Time aka the Hero Shade. Through my point of view. providing key information such as the knight family bloodline, the Hylian and Gerudo war and many more. This story is something every Zelda fan and theorist alike will enjoy. (Also some Link x Malon romance moments)

Link the hero of time is most experenced link
-ocerena of time
-majoras mask
-super smash bros (n64)
-super smash bros melee
-soul calibur 2
And he has impact in all zelda games
-twilight princess hero shade
-wind waker the legend of the hero that inspires toon link
-Skyward sword carfted the hero of times primery weapon
-breath of the wild hero of times tunic
-hyrule warriors hero of times tunic and his version of master sword and as a child with masks
Hes the only link to craft a sword thats stronger then the full power master sword with the help of the goron giant biggoron (though it was erased when time was reset)
But he got an extra year of traing because of the broken ganon future thus he has the best training and then he turned to a skalfoss sprit(hero shade)
And learnt more abilitys from his future incarnation(hero of twilight)
Also he was the only hero to unlock the true power of the master sword
And link lived longer as mask tranformations stop ageing as they freeze the users age at how old the mask spirits were when they died
And that's why He's the GREATEST Link of all time.
I guess no one heard of the Hero of Legend/Alttp Link. There’s 4 games starring him, he’s the only Link that has a upgraded Master Sword.
vr - ss?
Even more! Marvel alliance, hyrule warriors, smash ultimate etc
@@danwhite94 marvel ultimate alliance doesn't count, link was demoed for the game but nintendo demanded he not be included on the gamecube port because they had link running on the playstation build. So hes not actually in any copies of the game.
I already mentioned hyrule warriors
And lastly smash ultimate is the hero of the wild from breath of the wild, not the hero of time.

Sadly, we are unlikely to see any more of Vortexxy's work, since she has been missing for over 2 years and two of her closest friends/collaborators have stated that she passed away in a car accident in 2016:
youtube.fandom.com/wiki/VortexxyGaming
I feel SO sorry for, Link.
This is really sad and my heart's been wrecked. But good job, this is pretty solid.
(And may help me figure out stuff for a story! So, yay!)
Huh I never thought about his life after Termina like that I thought that he joined the role guard

Mitch Burns I'm almost positive you will be playing as the defeated Hero of Time and I can't wait!
Ghost Certified how would that link be the defeated heroe?
Even now I still come back to these videos.
What more can I say but thanks for persuing your passion. Vortexxy
I'm grateful her videos are still here for us to cherish 💙
What an emotional video. Link does have that courage to live on.
FANTASTIC video! I was aware of most of this already, but the deeper perspective that you put this in made it so much better! you haven't had a single bad video yet! :)
this was super well done. from the beginning second to the last frame - one of my favorite videos your did. so much emotion behind this, i have a new found respect for the hero of time
The Hero of Time, the greatest of all the heroes.
"Links best friend"
"Yahoo! Hi, Vortex!"
You sure about that? :)
The Kokiri become the villagers and the fairies the monkeys.
your videos are always crafted with such care. I'm left quite speechless at times. This might be one of my favourite ones yet.
this is why ocarina of time/ MM link is the greatest one in the whole link lineage!!

Cool. I never noticed the Navi symbols in the concept art for Ilia.
The life of a hero is never easy.
Now I realise with Zelda playing the Ocarina that she's giving him a indirect kiss. This is a bigger deal in Japan then in the "Western" world.
There needs to be a third fucking Hero of Time game.
This makes Samurai Jack look like a bad day at work.
I don't consider much of "Hyrule Historia" canon. The number of basic knowledge mistakes are infamous.
But again, 80% of Zelda canon can be answered as "depends on your source"
The in-game history never shows the Hero of Time with regret, or bitter about his role.
Beautiful done. Full of thought and emotion. Earned a new subscriber and many shares.
I’m sure she would’ve appreciated that 💙
She's dead.
Thank you for linking the beautiful cover to Calm and Hope! I''ve been looking for it for a long time!
Great video and I love the fact that you included the links to the music you used!!
I love that you provide the names and links of the music you use. Thank you!
This is such a well made video :) one of your best zelda uploads yet. Felt like it was a series finale.
I was so excited when I saw that you had a new video, and let me just say that your videos are nothing short of amazing! Your channel is the best, and definitely one of my top favorites! Fantastic job on them all, and keep them coming! You have a huge fan right here! :D
This was sad. The hero of time went through hell.
