Surprisingly great performace of the KEYone if you consider, it has only 3 GB RAM and a much slower processor. The battery life of the KEYone should be amazing and the camera is great as well. Looks good, guys!
Totaly agree with you, you would of thought that the s8 would out perform the bb by a longshot, but it doesnt. It goes to show that its not just about how fast the processor is.. Also bb have always taken a while to start up as they have the added security features..
Ya I don't understand why all these phone comparison video always compare the boot up process when everyone knows that BB will always be slower then all other phone because of the added security features at boot up? If they don't have that, I'm pretty sure it will boot up pretty damn fast too like those other phone makers.
Tranamal 21 plus lets be honest, nowadays noone lets their phone go completely dead if it can be helped, so its a pointless exercise.. Also i personaly dont buy a phone nased on how quick it boots up 😂😂
But I need amazing battery life..that is so important that my phone is their when I need it..KEYOne is epic with battery. Just incredible. Having a more high end soc is no big deal. I need a powerful productivity workhorse and looks I found it with K1!
keyone is designed to have up to 52 programmable hotkey homescreen shortcuts that can perform tasks within apps after only a single touch. keyone is faster in real world use. not to mention the universal inbox. viewing area on the galaxy is pretty dismal when the virtual keyboards in use.
You turned the brightness up all the way on the S8 at the beginning of the video and not the KEYone. Then you noted that the S8 screen was brighter. No doubt it's a better screen, but...come on.
That's not what he said. He means that it isn't fair to turn up the brightness of one phone and then praise it for being brighter. Maybe the key one was also on full brightness, but he didn't show us
Let's see how bright the S8 display is after 8 hours of heavy use, then 10 or 12. To make launching of apps a fair comparison, start the K1 with a shortcut and the S8 from the home screen instead of after you navigate to the icon.
really superb comparison video - I respectfully disagree about the processor, if there was a snapdragon 800 series in the BB it would destroy the battery life and rather than showing what a beast the BB could be (performance on a meager chip) it embarasses the S8 which is a beautiful phone with a great display but what payoff for the high end processor ? laggy as a mid range phone until your app is all loaded up and then you will have to be careful to get through a day without plugging into a charger! I wish samsung would make an S8 Mini with a 4.8 inch screen, 1080p, snapdragon 625, 3000mAh battery and same camera as big brother. battery life is the next frontier and blackberry nailed it ! phone is definitely not for everyone but i hope they get enough sales to make a comeback and get even sleeker
Tim Marshall do you think UCL could build a better Priv ? because the idea of Priv is so great : having a keyboard with all benefits, shortcuts, gestures for navigation & camera, + comfortable writing. and hide when not needed facing a gorgeous screen like any other flagship. if yes, how could be the battery life ?
Ahmed Shafeeq making the phone balance seems to be the main issue ? Perhaps if top bezels were kept small as possible and weight distributed carefully but I'm hoping we see lots more now that the KeyOne is getting great reviews!
The s8 was at 76% when he started and the blackberry was at 90% end of the video s8 was 71 which means it lost 5% and the bb was at 88% which means it lost 2% u guys are saying samsung lost 46% 76-4=? Please dont coment without watching the video carefully.
Keep up?! It opened many apps faster than Samsung. And also, S8 has brighter screen since you put it to full bright at the beginning of the video. I don't recall you doing that with the BB.
Tziavis in every product you pay a huge amount for the brand value. The brands with big value like Samsung have a huge R&D. If you like the technology go with the bests. If you want a cheap and vfm there are hundreds of choices.
Working Joe yes ok but the product value is not just that, it is the R&D, innovation and a lot more. Samsung is the best in this part with IoT, self driving cars, connected cars, best hardware best chip maker etc. The S8 need some optimizations because of the new technologies like bixby or DeX also the Knox. It is not going with the safe method of stock android.
Working Joe zero innovation? DeX, VR, bixby, design. These are calling innovation. If you make something different from others then you are an innovator.
Blackberry is really productivity .. Samsung and Apple are for entertainment. The Blackberry has the message light which is so critical .. I often just look across the room for the message light. There is also a pretty substantial price difference. Also, the Blackberry has the GRIPPY and thicker shell .. this is enormously important as you can skip the ugly and bulky cases. The keyboard-touchpad allow the utility of the screen to be pretty good .. your fingers are not blocking that screen space with fingers or vitual keypad. I thought you did a good comparision. Again the difference is .. the Blackberry is fantastic at productivity, and it can do the entertainment side .. Samsung and Apple are fantastic at entertainment and they can do the productivity side.
I charged my Keyone this morning to a full charge, used it all day this weekend and even worked on an Excel spreadsheet from scratch for my job, came back home and streamed lots of videos. It is past midnight and it still has 35% battery. On school days, I'd only have to recharge every two and a half days to max.
BlackBerry KEYone might not have the best specs on paper but it helps you get SHIT done! Amazing battery life and keeps me productive throughout my day.
I have a Key One, S8+, S7, Note 5 and Nexus 5X and the Key One screen is brighter than any of them especially in direct sunlight. I just got my Key One this week and it is from the new batch with the better screen adhesion so maybe they have done something to increase the screen brightness too.
People, I love my tech, and probably smartphones are top of the list for me. However, please people at the end of the day they are just that Smartphones, my daily driver is the Blackberry Priv and have had no reasons to change until now. The Keyone looks good and will do what I want it to do with fantastic battery management. All phones are just as good as each other it all depends what we want them to do.
I'm a Samsung everything guy (it somehow ended up like that; I didn't plan it) and I played with it and was amazed. It wasn't slow or clunky like I expected. It was smooth as silk, was pretty to look at, and fast at everything. The keyboard felt amazing and tight
I am surprised by the speed of the KeyONe! The software on the KeyOne is also not the version that will ship with the retail KeyOne. Blackberry is already updating the software.
I like more that blackberry design, looks classy and charismatic btw s8 is a glass phone and has so much display which i didn`t enjoy that not much also that Keyone is incredibly fast with mid-end processor
Funny how the Blackberry isnt made for playing games, yet it matches the S8 on speed with a less-powered processor. Thats just ridiculous, Samsung shame on you
I've tried Samsung , iPhone 7, Huawei P9 (great phone), et al. But I've always seem to be pulled back to Blackberry no matter how much some complain about screen and speed.
The BB K1 is the better deal, for people who don`t play a lot of games or watch movies every day on the Phone. The Keyboard can be used as a touchpad, you can "flip" the words in the text, fingerprint sensor is integrated in the "SPACE" Key. what else? I had to choose between S8+ or K1 - the K1 wins, because I am no gamer (anymore) and movies...i watch these on bigger screens, such as my tablet computer, Notebook, Computer and TV.
Key One delivered a surprising performance for the processor, BlackBerry has done wonders with this system where it preserves battery consumption by working at optimum performance.
BB uses a smaller processor intentionally for power management. BB has and will always be a work horse. BB also does an automatic security check on boot up so it will always take longer to start up. I noticed you immediately turned up the brightness of the S8 but not the BB then talked about how much brighter the S8 was. Just sayin. I think these days all the phones are a one year phone except for Blackberry, they are a one decade phone. WOW that sounds biased! I did like your video. Thanks for posting it up!
BB is always slower to boot up due to all the security measures that are in place. One, right off the top of my head is they make sure your phone hasn't been tampered with upon booting up.
I've owned a Keyone black 64gb limited edition for about a year now and I can confirm its its a brilliant phone, fast and smooth, of the 10's of thousands of times I've used it the fingerprint scanner it has misread my fingerprint only twice, Thats all it gets 9/10 from me
Not that it would make much a difference, but you didn't close out the background apps on many test even after you cleared the ones on S8 and not the KEYone, so I feel like the test would be even closer if you cleared the ram out more
Keyone is one of my favo, for work it is damn sweet with keyboard and shortcuts. Problem around here is i got mail a day ago they have got them to store, but price around here is 970$ and that is little overkill even for me :) the 500-600 is good, but 960 is way to much around here...
The thing is I get two and a half days on a single charge from my Keyone moderate use, and as you can see from the video the S8 didn't crush the Keyone in speed. I'm more than happy with the Keyone overall it's a great piece of kit.
Am I seeing this right? Was Blackberry Hub enabled during this speed test? If so, that is amazing how the KEYone performed, even as the S8 is slowed down by its Touchwiz! That's another good reason why the 600 series of Snapdragons can go toe-to-toe with even the fastest phone processors around. At this pace, even the Verizon Wireless version of the Kyocera Duraforce Pro can outrun the S8 anyday. It even has a sapphire display, like its previous Brigadier! That also makes me look forward to the Motorola Z2 Play coming out! :D
i really don't get the speed test.... what's the expectation here? they both performed very well... i can wait a few seconds for my phone to kick in.... also please if you gonna test your phones please clear browser history and cookies before doing a browser test.... internet speed???? speed test please use the phone.... take many pictures and try sending all of them or uploading them on social media and lets see how fast they perform....open apps while on a phone call and try same on a video call on whatsapp for example... and other regular day to day stuff that most people do.... and please tell us when these phones were bought and how long they've been used. thank you
So why does the BB need the latest processor when it very clearly keeps up with, and even beats the S8 with the latest processor? Seems to me the BB is doing just fine.
I love how all of these speed tests look sharp and snappy, but then on closer inspection they are pretty superficial. Who cares about the extra second when the performance is laggy or the touchscreen becomes non-responsive.
Goddmanit, just what kind of optimisations BlackBerry has done to their UI. The KeyOne keeps up with the S8 despite of lower RAM and weaker processor. I wonder if BlackBerry decides to make a successor to KeyOne with Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM then they will literally obliterate other Android phones in terms of performance.
My phone is BB Z30 and i love it most because of the hub. I want to know in keyone also hub works like Z30 means opening all in the same way. Now in android (Other than BB phones) ,if i open a normal sms it shows in hub but opens in a different application same to whatsapp. I want know how the hub works in BB Android phones. Please tell me how it works depending on that only i will decide to buy BB Android phone or not.
Sri Raghava M they worked the android SMS app to open in the hub now, it opens in its own app but when you go to recent apps, it was never opened. It confusing but it's integrated in a way now, after replying if you hit back button it just goes back to the hub like it should
It's really a shame that Samsung puts so much into hardware and nothing into software. Not only did they release their flagship still on Android 7.0, but they didn't even at LEAST optimize 7.0... there's no reason that a Snapdragon 835 can't hold a couple of games in memory... unforgivable really
Just a hint... When you test the speed of opening apps, you should probably always be testing the same app... not the stock app on one device and the OEM (Samsung in this case) equivalent on the other.
Not sure why your apps didn't reload that much. For me, they do reload every other app after a day of using the device Perhaps it keeps them for a few minutes tests.
High secure phones will never start faster than most phones. All blackberry phone especially bb10 start slow due to security chip that's built in. That's not a speed test, it's a start up test lol
this is like comparing a high torque and payload work truck vs a race car. two diff target objectives for two diff demographics. what does everyone not get as to why they put in a less powerful chipset? its about optimizing battery power for a phone that is geared towards communication. not gaming, not multimedia, not highschool kids on snapchat. funny how a so called tech channel cant even do their research.
the problem with the s8 is caused by all the running processes in the background even with all apps closed(there is over 150). I think this is affecting its ram management. Try a speed test with all running processes disabled
im torn between s8 or key2. one thing i need to find out is if you can reach your thumb across the screen with Key2? i know you can on S8. one hand swyping is necessary for me.
The annoying part is that most reviewers salivate over the Samsung and never mention the elephant in the room (lag and lack of optimization). It's a Samsung stable. They WILL mention this about the Keyone though right off the bat. This goes to show that even reviews are not the best to go by and reviewers are sometimes just as ignorant as any sheep. real world usage rules
Seagullian Dave nah it's fast for every day use and battery life. I have the s8 and the Redmi 4 prime. love both but for different reasons. screen on s8 and battery and performance on redmi
For Samsung lovers - it is S8 and for Blackberry lovers - it is KeyOne. Both have own positive and negative aspects. You can't give a final verdict among these cell phones. Cheers for all.
Here’s a question. Considering the slower cpu. Do you think the key one and the motion for that matter will be less relevant 2 years from now. Will there be apps that this thing struggles to run or will it fail to get an Oreo update because of lack of interest in the device?
I have several Samsungs, lgs and BlackBerry. Actually I own every BlackBerry to date and I must say the KEYone blows my S8, LG G6 and V20 away, the only phone that can hang with the KEYᴼᴺᴱ is the LG G5 and it gives the KEYᴼᴺᴱ a run for the money. But the KEYone wins it my eyes..
I would be interested to see this comparison against after a couple of months of day to day usage! My DTEK60 slowed down drastically after a few months which was sad to see ☹️
I'm too impatient to thoroughly comment on this reviewers uninformed arguments as to deficiencies of the Blackberry. to cut to the chase understand the target strengths BlackBerry pursued in creating this device. it's not intended to be the fastest nor have the biggest or brightest screen, it is intended to be a work horse of a beast for the modern business person. it delivers, excelling on several key productivity and utility features.
BlackBerry had always been slow to open because of the security features, it scans every part of the phone as it's opening...hence the reason that most government's use BlackBerry
I have to agree. Blackberry dropped the ball yet again. The display was horrible. I have a LG X Power that I got for free from my carrier, thought Id order the Blackberry KeyOne 64GB Black Version to replace it. After 4hrs of use, I had to return it. Theres no way I should be more impressed by a free phone display over a $900 dollar phone. I couldn't live with that decision. They need to increase the size of the screen, there was still tons of room, and that lcd needs to be topnotch, since as we're sacrificing real estate.
Surprisingly great performace of the KEYone if you consider, it has only 3 GB RAM and a much slower processor. The battery life of the KEYone should be amazing and the camera is great as well. Looks good, guys!
Robert Pospichal I get a minimum of 48 hours with then 20% left
its not that slower, 625 is a beast
Totaly agree with you, you would of thought that the s8 would out perform the bb by a longshot, but it doesnt. It goes to show that its not just about how fast the processor is.. Also bb have always taken a while to start up as they have the added security features..

Tranamal 21 plus lets be honest, nowadays noone lets their phone go completely dead if it can be helped, so its a pointless exercise.. Also i personaly dont buy a phone nased on how quick it boots up 😂😂
I'm pretty amazed by the performance of the KEYone
#KEYONE impressive against an S8! and $250 cheaper! wow I want this device!
Rico4you might as well buy onplus 3t or g6 which are also cheaper and better then keyone
But I need amazing battery life..that is so important that my phone is their when I need it..KEYOne is epic with battery. Just incredible. Having a more high end soc is no big deal. I need a powerful productivity workhorse and looks I found it with K1!
I am gonna order KeyONE for that battery life, productivity and the keyboard
Now keyone only $250
KEYone rekt the S8 a few times lmao
KEYone lost 3% battery in the whole video, S8 lost 46%.
yeah just wow! amazing!
keyone is designed to have up to 52 programmable hotkey homescreen shortcuts that can perform tasks within apps after only a single touch. keyone is faster in real world use. not to mention the universal inbox. viewing area on the galaxy is pretty dismal when the virtual keyboards in use.
Thanks for the video. I'd like to add that the BlackBerry Android devices take longer to boot up due to security loads.
Try doing the same test in 48 hours but without charging either phone, and then see how the S8 would fare. Love my Keyone.
tonkerdog1 Given how the KeyOne would still be above 50% battery and the S8 would be dead, not really a fair comparison.
That's my point...........
tonkerdog1 Well, it became your point after you changed your comment. The one I responded too made it seem you had a S8 ;)
Hey that ain't fair, how can you do a speed comparison when the S8 is switched off?
Blackberry Keyone did well here! Will definitely get BB Keyone when it arrives here in the Philippines! =)
Christian Kaiser Cecilio did you ever get it? If so how do you like it so far?
How was the Keyone for you? Where did you buy?
Did you get it
You turned the brightness up all the way on the S8 at the beginning of the video and not the KEYone. Then you noted that the S8 screen was brighter. No doubt it's a better screen, but...come on.
Ed Schukar yes he is so biased he did not turn on full the brightness of keyone..
That's not what he said. He means that it isn't fair to turn up the brightness of one phone and then praise it for being brighter. Maybe the key one was also on full brightness, but he didn't show us
yea he didnt
Let's see how bright the S8 display is after 8 hours of heavy use, then 10 or 12. To make launching of apps a fair comparison, start the K1 with a shortcut and the S8 from the home screen instead of after you navigate to the icon.
It is not called touch os ui rather it is called samsung experienced ui
very surprising how the BB keyone can keep up and even win on a few speed tests. I am very impressed with Keyone.
The slower processor in the BB allows for 2 full days of battery power, in exchange, one loses a bit of speed. Worth it to me.
really superb comparison video - I respectfully disagree about the processor, if there was a snapdragon 800 series in the BB it would destroy the battery life and rather than showing what a beast the BB could be (performance on a meager chip) it embarasses the S8 which is a beautiful phone with a great display but what payoff for the high end processor ? laggy as a mid range phone until your app is all loaded up and then you will have to be careful to get through a day without plugging into a charger!

battery life is the next frontier and blackberry nailed it ! phone is definitely not for everyone but i hope they get enough sales to make a comeback and get even sleeker
Thanks
Tim Marshall
do you think UCL could build a better Priv ?
because the idea of Priv is so great : having a keyboard with all benefits, shortcuts, gestures for navigation & camera, + comfortable writing.
and hide when not needed facing a gorgeous screen like any other flagship.
if yes, how could be the battery life ?
Ahmed Shafeeq making the phone balance seems to be the main issue ? Perhaps if top bezels were kept small as possible and weight distributed carefully but I'm hoping we see lots more now that the KeyOne is getting great reviews!
Tim Marshall
right, perhaps a 3:2 5.2" screen makes the balancing better with minimum bezels as you mentioned.
S8 is not a laggy phone at all. It is just that ram management need to be a bit better. I own an S8 and speaks from personal experience.
WOW keyone is performing really well hope they'll put a high end processor in next years phone
If this one sells well look forward to the new Blackberry Bold!
blackberry lost 3% battery while the samsung lost 46% over the test. id say the blackberry wins hands down.
acm3 345 I saw your comment and went back to check.. what's up with that lol
the s8 must be faulty
Yep, I appreciate your comment. Poor S8. LOL!
The s8 was at 76% when he started and the blackberry was at 90% end of the video s8 was 71 which means it lost 5% and the bb was at 88% which means it lost 2% u guys are saying samsung lost 46% 76-4=? Please dont coment without watching the video carefully.
Dude check it again it did lost 46% in the last
I didn't notice that detail until I read your comment.. BB wants its come back :v
Also, there is a way to get the brightness higher on the KEYone. For some reason it's deeper into the settings.
Shawn Burk because they want to optimize the phone for better battery life
S8 is very Nice, but i like the BlackBerry KeyOne
for sure!
Jean-Leon Kassi same here😂😂
LOok Nokia 8 Vs S8. you sure s8 is the best?:)
Jean-Leon Kassi u must be high
Same here
Definitely interested in the Keyone!
wow Samsung battery at 29% while blackberry still at 87%.. wow
Good battery life on KEYone, enough for almost 2 days.
Samsung is shit , Last samsung Phone i used was a s6 a real piece of shit
@@salvadorcarreno330 So long gay Samsung

Great performance of Blackberry!

Oh my god, the S8 has so great SoCs and cant beat a cheap Snapdragon.
Also has worse Ram Management than a 3GB Ram phone!
Thats awful, Samsung!
Working Joe after first update it will fly. The same with S7. Also the new chip is not faster than previous but more efficient.

I love how all of these speed tests look sharp and snappy, but then on closer inspection they are pretty superficial. Who cares about the extra second when the performance is laggy or the touchscreen becomes non-responsive.
for an older processor, BB killed the S8.
BB looks so amazing :))))) !!!!
It confusing but it's integrated in a way now, after replying if you hit back button it just goes back to the hub like it should
They are doing a decent job integrating into the HUB but right now it doesn't act like the BB10 HUB...they are getting close
Thanks. What about whatsapp and mail. it is integrated like BB 10 Hub or it is also like sms app only.
Mail will act like BB, it open inside Hub, but Whatsapp will open the app itself just like sms and most of other apps.
Should compare the DTEK60 to the Samsung S8. Full touchscreen to touchscreen comparison.
It's really a shame that Samsung puts so much into hardware and nothing into software. Not only did they release their flagship still on Android 7.0, but they didn't even at LEAST optimize 7.0... there's no reason that a Snapdragon 835 can't hold a couple of games in memory... unforgivable really
please compare Z PLAY with S7Edge or iphone7 speed test
Just a hint... When you test the speed of opening apps, you should probably always be testing the same app... not the stock app on one device and the OEM (Samsung in this case) equivalent on the other.
Not sure why your apps didn't reload that much. For me, they do reload every other app after a day of using the device Perhaps it keeps them for a few minutes tests.
Don't forget the BlackBerry is loaded with security this is why it is a bit slow it is scanning all the time.
High secure phones will never start faster than most phones. All blackberry phone especially bb10 start slow due to security chip that's built in. That's not a speed test, it's a start up test lol
i wanted the video of Xperia x vs keyone
this is like comparing a high torque and payload work truck vs a race car. two diff target objectives for two diff demographics.
what does everyone not get as to why they put in a less powerful chipset? its about optimizing battery power for a phone that is geared towards communication. not gaming, not multimedia, not highschool kids on snapchat. funny how a so called tech channel cant even do their research.
the problem with the s8 is caused by all the running processes in the background even with all apps closed(there is over 150).
I can't wait for the Key2 (out in few days!)
Even S8 has better hardwares, but the thing is you can see S8 lags when you touch the screen sometimes even it does load app a bit faster.
put BB on the right hand ans S& on the left we'll see
love the SD 625 processor. best chip off the year
tony lansky sd 835 will obviosuly beat that midrange soc in gaming and other things. It is just the great optimization of that bb phone
Seagullian Dave nah it's fast for every day use and battery life. I have the s8 and the Redmi 4 prime. love both but for different reasons. screen on s8 and battery and performance on redmi
sd 835 is the fastest of all snapdragon processor
800=flagship
600=mid range
400=low end to mid rangr
200=low end
Seagullian Dave yeah on paper I would agree. one Plus 3T still beats the s8. just games are a bit faster on the 835
tony lansky it depends on the optimization
Android8.0 oreo update fixed all the issues with the s8 now its fully optimized
For Samsung lovers - it is S8 and for Blackberry lovers - it is KeyOne. Both have own positive and negative aspects. You can't give a final verdict among these cell phones. Cheers for all.
from this review, i think he prefer Samsung to Keyone. sounded like biased review imo..
cheers..
You get alot more screen space on the KEYone when the virtual keyboard on the S8 is showing
Here’s a question. Considering the slower cpu. Do you think the key one and the motion for that matter will be less relevant 2 years from now. Will there be apps that this thing struggles to run or will it fail to get an Oreo update because of lack of interest in the device?
The screen of the Blackberry is much less defined than that of the Samsung,
It therefore has fewer pixels to take into account
WOO! Knew it! Go, BBK1!
crazy how both the phones i want are in the same video. I'm blessed 😂
the chime at 0:53 sounds like something has come back from the death
Does the Blackberry have Multi Window Support for multitasking?
RAKSHITA PRAYAGA Yeah it does
I really like my KEYone. Very good phone.
TCL OEM improve blackberry spec and use the android system so smoothly
BlackBerry had always been slow to open because of the security features, it scans every part of the phone as it's opening...hence the reason that most government's use BlackBerry
"longativity??" 😂😂
Perhaps longevity 🤙🏻
But no disrespect man I'm just busting chops, keep up the good work 👍🏻
I have to agree.
