I started to watch, and realised that my husband who is also a Veteran and was exposed to toxins, plus suffered a traumatic brain injury, shares many of the same symptoms as Jason. My husband had an official diagnosis just before Christmas last year. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your experience, it has helped me cope, when there has been times when I truly thought that I could not carry on, as this awful disease takes hold, but we take each hour and day as it comes.

I wish I could get a handle on the mood swings my hubby has….he doesn’t remember the things he says but it’s almost always after dark. However thru the day he can become agitated easily. Can’t have car radio on. Leaves his credit card in the machine then says he forgot it cause I was talking. In between he’s a very kind, loving Christian man. Calls me Precious. Always has…but something is going on. He’s a very healthy 73…walks and plays 18 holes 3 times a week. Slim/trim. But he just gets upset so easily! Breaks my heart. Your videos make me feel I’m not alone. Jason seems so cognizant, funny, great sense of humor. Never seems upset with you describing his illness. Communicates w/friends, has hobbies…willing to help around house. My hubby tries….it’s a mystery. Thanks for what you do, Leslie…and your home is so beautiful!
Deborah I hear you. My husband is 62 and his personality is really changed since he was in a car accident. He had major surgery on his arm and 2 on his neck where they implanted a cage. Since then he has been on opioids for the pain and has become easily aggitated and short tempered and takes a lot of his frustration out on me. I try to talk to him about it and he'll mostly apologize but then do it again. It's so frustrating 😫
Leslie, Jason is incredibly adorable. Bright, funny, sweet. So worth fighting for. I know we mostly see the good times, and I am so glad you finished off that sunroom for his sanctuary. On down days he can relax, watch the birds and enjoy nature, I can only hope as you both continue to strive for as healthy life as possible, that you feel all the love and support from your your tube family. I'm a cleaning lady and have heard horror stories from my clients. You were right in listening to your instincts on that one service. Go with a referral and if you find a GOOD cleaning lady, pay and treat her well because we are hard to find because we book up. Also make sure they are not just a "lick and a promise" service that just wipes things to "look clean." you want someone to do deep cleaning, like vacuuming the furniture, hands and knees washing floors because you can handle the swiffer. Wishing you luck on finding someone GOOD!
Leslie, you are my hero! My husband began having some cognitive issues about 18 months ago. I came across one of your first videos and Jason was so much like my husband. I am a retired NICU nurse, also. It seemed like your lives paralleled ours. I felt like he had LBD but we kept being told he did not have LBD. Got in with a Neurology Specialist in another city(7 month wait list) and he was diagnosed, at 59 years old, with LBD. We have 2 daughters and 3 small grandkids and this has devastated them. Do you have separate bedrooms? My husband becomes aggressive in his sleep, which most nights I end up on the couch. My husband has always taken care of the finances, been able to fix anything broken, and now, I feel like that has all shifted onto me. I will continue to watch your videos and pray for your family. Leslie - I was struck by your reaction when your husband said he had called out for you and you haven’t heard him. I know you know this, but sometimes they think they call for you, that’s what they remember, but it never happened. My husband does the same thing only it may be a different subject. I have learned not to beat my self up over his memories. You would have heard him - it is like having a baby cry at night - dementia caregivers always have one ear to the ground. Stay strong and I hope you feel better.

With my dad and his dementia, the financial part was very difficult. He had people asking him for money and we had to intervene or he wouldn't have money to pay his bills. The legal aspect gets very difficult if they have not been deemed incapacitated by a professional. Even after having documents that protect him, we still had to deal with the blowback when we told him no, he can't give HIS money away. It was awful.

My mom had dementia I was her caretaker for years, (she passed in 2020) I had a plug-in doorbell thing (with volume control) so if she needed me in the night all she had to do was push the button on her nightstand and it would ring in my room. We always have coconut cake for Easter, make a border of the coconut green so the coconut looks like Easter grass and then put some jelly beans on top of it as decoration.

I am trying to be a patient caregiver! He also gets tired after a short time of activity. I'm trying to encourage healthy food and short walks, His memory is fuzzy and he gets mixed up about things. Some days are easier than others. It's helps to see how you handle things.

He does seem to sleep a lot though. My husband sleeps a lot too. He had cancer a few years ago. He's doing much better, but boy does he sleep. Leslie, I hope you can find help with cleaning your house. That is one thing that can get out of hand quick. You must of really been sick. I can see it on your face. You need to rest some more. Wow! He is looking really good! Praise God! That gives me so much hope for the person I am taking care of. In his case he also has Parkinson's and can hardly move. I'm happy for Jason. Very happy. You guys are so great! I always wanted a great close relationship with a husband but I was not that lucky. I had two husband's, but they were not good choices at all. I don't regret them because I have wonderful children, but I miss having a best friend to grow old with and go for walks with. I'm so happy you have each other.❤

You have a beautiful home. Wow. I too have been a caregiver most of my life. My mom had dementia for 10 yrs bedridden. My and I took care of her. Every day, every minute was something new and scary for her. I now take care of my 96 yr old daddy and live with him full time. I do get to see my husband in passing but I know God has a plan. It’s hard to get sick when you are a caregiver and I pray for strength for you as you encounter every day obstacles. You are a strong awesome woman and you are a wonderful example of a Godly wife!!!

I cared for my father who had Alzheimer’s. A baby monitor helped me keep an eye on him. I clipped the receiver on my hip.

Leslie, I want to thank you for allowing us to spend a day with both you and Jason. I like the updates on Jason. I'm glad to see him happy and cooking since he enjoys that. He does seem to sleep a lot though. My husband sleeps a lot too. He had cancer a few years ago. He's doing much better, but boy does he sleep. Leslie, I hope you can find help with cleaning your house. That is one thing that can get out of hand quick. You must of really been sick. I can see it on your face. You need to rest some more. Wow! He is looking really good! Praise God! That gives me so much hope for the person I am taking care of. In his case he also has Parkinson's and can hardly move. I'm happy for Jason. Very happy. Even before he said he was better, I had already noticed it. Please you all, pray for my friend and patient.

You guys are so great! I always wanted a great close relationship with a husband but I was not that lucky. I had two husband's, but they were not good choices at all. I don't regret them because I have wonderful children, but I miss having a best friend to grow old with and go for walks with. I'm so happy you have each other.❤

You have a beautiful home. Wow. I too have been a caregiver most of my life. My mom had dementia for 10 yrs bedridden. My and I took care of her. Every day, every minute was something new and scary for her. I now take care of my 96 yr old daddy and live with him full time. I do get to see my husband in passing but I know God has a plan. It’s hard to get sick when you are a caregiver and I pray for strength for you as you encounter every day obstacles. You are a strong awesome woman and you are a wonderful example of a Godly wife!!!
