Old Town Bangkok *avoid tourist traps*

- Today we caught the local water taxi from just near our accommodation (Marina Pier) to Old Town Bangkok (The Chang). We had read that when in Bangkok you MUST catch a water taxi and after doing it we can see why!
Once in the old town we were bombarded with people trying to get us to do a private tuk-tuk tour. As usual we just wanted to do our own thing, but to be polite we listened to each persons story right up until they finally said that they were selling a tour and named their price. Its hard for us to just say no, especially when people are being so friendly and start up a conversation. Prior to hitting the streets of Bangkok we had gone online to read about common ‘scams’ or ‘tourist traps’ that operate in Thailand. We had read a lot about people telling you wrong information about attraction open times, we didn’t really get why anyone would do that until today….
Anyway, all that aside, we ended up going to The Golden Mount - it really is a sanctuary in the centre of Bangkok. Its VERY cheap to get inside the temple and it gives you panoramic views of the city!

We said goodbye to our jobs, sold all our belongings, and left Australia on a one-way ticket to Shanghai with just each other and our backpacks! We plan to travel the world for a year, see as much as possible, meet as many people as we can, and most importantly MAKE OUR MONEY LAST!

True.. they charge tourists quite a lot to get in. But you both should see inside the Royal Palace at least once.
Lovely video guys! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks for navigating Bangkok and the touristy areas there! We also like wandering and exploring sights on our own and we love walking the cities we're visiting so this is all really helpful! We don't have a trip to Asia in our plans just yet, but it's coming for sure. :)
You need to get to SE Asia its so wonderful here! We love walking around, its great to just take in the sights and people watch. Plus we've come across so many great things by accident just walking around!

Hey guys 😁 hope you guys are enjoying beautiful busy Bangkok! We LOVE Thailand! Are you guys going to be doing a bit of island hopping whilst you’re there? That food looks AMAZING and so cheap!!! Damnnn we miss Asia prices, makes Australia seem like the most expensive place in the world! Especially when it comes to food and drinks, yikes!
Oh boy Australia is SO expensive hey, we didn't realise until we started travelling long term. Plus the food is so good for the price you pay! No islands this time, but we have a feeling we'll come back to Thailand soon and see some islands. This time around its about the North 😊
We didn't pay for the ferry either, I agree too many churches and temples much better to walk and look.

That was called a river station where you got on the river ferry yes you have too get on & off quickly I was going to also add that the cost of 500B was not correct but you worked it out great Vlog.

That was a looooong walk at the beginning to get some food, thank god for timelapse lol, I did not realize you guys were big vegetarians. Also amazing how the hairline on the monkey matched Tim's LOL.
Haha yeah it was a bit of a maze to get to that restaurant! We were vegetarian for over 2 years before we started this trip, so we prefer to eat vegetarian when we can. Asia is perfect for vegetarians and vegans so we're making the most of it 😊
You do the right thing, Don't trust anyone who offer anything to you around tourist area in bangkok, they're all scam. Don't trust any taxi and tuk tuk driver. If you want to transit around that area, use Uber or GRAB app
