The main reason the side boards are made out of wood is because of the guys that operate the loaders Always hit the top of the dump truck and it's easier to just replace the board then to straighten metal sides all the time.

I think the reason sideboards are wood is so they can get beat up by the loader and can be easily replaced.

If Paul is the only one loading his Not For Hire dump truck then he doesn’t have to worry about the yahoo on the loader but that’s exactly why they’re usually made out of wood.
Unfortunately I’ve had brand new side boards get broken on the first day of having them on because of a loader operator that was an eye dee ten tee.

  • @keithmalmberg8395
    @keithmalmberg8395 Годину тому +9

The reason for the top boards being wood is that the can be replaced. When the loader bangs the edge it doesn't cause damage to the steel edge of the bed or the equipment. And if the loader is really stupid it will break the board and not transfer to the truck bed.
    Still really cool

In England, I know the dump truck side bars as ‘greedy boards’ as the loader got greedy. They’re kind of the first mod people do with a sand and gravel / muck away wagon. Nice job

In Australia we call them hungry boards on dump trucks. You need to be careful though as you tend to overload 'em when you have the extra bin height which can damage the cylanders. Cheers from Sydney Australia fellow earthmoving plant owner.

Hey Paul, always remember to be coating your dump bed with diesel oil before loading up on asphalt. This makes the clean-up a breeze. Just use a Hudson sprayer.

The fork/ball attachment is something that will be used more often than one ever suspects. I built one for my skid steer and use it to shuttle empty trailers around from the backyard to the house. Guys that own and load a dump truck can get by with steel side boards. I've replaced many side boards on dump trucks that had less than caring operators loading them. Always keep 3 projects at a time going.

  • @jamesbigham9036

Paul, they are called "hungry boards" here in my part of Oz.
They can be made of wood over steel because they help you increase light, bulk loads.
Increasing the core capacity of your tray can overload your truck illegally..

don't come to PA with that you will get a a big fat ticket. as you are not allowed to fill above the metal sides of the truck . the wood side boards are to keep dirt from spilling out when hitting bumps. and you are not allowed to alter the bed of truck to hold more dirt because that will put you over the weight limit of the truck.

I think your sideboard iron. Should have a brace in the center going up and down.
Sooner or later it's going to loosen that weld...
And if you were getting paid by the time you just added a few more to your truck.
What's the temperature for your own it don't matter I guess.
    Good job . PS
