How Super Bowl Fields Are Deep Cleaned And Prepped For Game Day | Deep Cleaned | Insider
It's cool he's proud of his work and the details being done right.
Too bad it was all done wrong
Yeah they did such a great job this year didnt they? /s
@@xp7575how?
Narrator: What do you typically vacuum up?
Groundskeeper: Screws from players helmet, sunflower seeds. Pete Carroll's gum...
"And sometimes broken tablet pieces but I haven't had to do that my friend Tim over at Gillette stadium has."
Lol
This is fascinating to watch. Getting things cleaned is the best feeling in the world.

It's unfortunate that this came out before a Super Bowl where the atrocious and dangerous condition of the field was the biggest story of the night. Someone is getting fired, if they haven't been fired by the time of my writing this.
The problem with that is: It is hard to find out who has to be blamed for it.
Asfar as I know George Toma is responsible, from NFL side, and seemed to have prepared every Superbowl Field ever (he retired after last one, said that in advance). However the stadium had a history of slipping this season (Fiesta Bowl e.g, I think Chiefs had there problems early in the season too) so it could very well be that just the paint or grass they use sucks a lot, in which case they shouldn't fire anyone but replace where they get it from to have a better quality there
The Fiesta Bowl was terrible. One of the commentators had passed it off as saying something like “the NFL plays on these types of fields so it’s different for professional players vs college players” but after watching the Super Bowl, doesn’t seem like that was true at all.
@@AlexM2299 that seems like a lame excuse to say "I can't blame the stadium if I want to be here next year again". I just hope the Cardinals get a new greenkeeper & a better grass next season. Hope they, and every NFL team figures some consequences out of it.
I mean it can happen for one game, somedays are just bad for the ground, but multiple time a season and in 2 bowl games? That's a big no.
@@PR_311 Agreed completely. Didn’t they say the grass they were using was a new type than they normally use? Was that comment referring to the grass just for the Super Bowl or in general for Arizona? I’ve been looking.
The stadium previously had Tifway 419 Bermuda grass, which is the standard turf for football. Four weeks before the Super Bowl, they ripped it all out and replaced with a newer breed called Tahoma 31, which is used on golf courses. (Source: ESPN)
Bogus if you ask me
Very cool. As a sports fan, we need more of these behind the scenes videos so we can see all the hard work people do.
There is only one grounds keeper and his name is Willie

Excellent cleaning job..!! Thank you for the update, Insider..!!
I've always wondered about this process. Thank y'all for showing it to me.
Nice inside but I'm wondering about all those paint and chemicals... I'm not especially obsessed by sustainability but I'm curious to see the pollution from all this on the drain system and the water.
Seems like a waste of water and time. I thought they had pre-made end zones at least for the Rams and Chargers and blank ones to paint for the Super Bowl or any college games they may play there. I wouldn’t want to be around all of those chemicals spraying in the air either.
Nice, but who are the chefs?
@@yell0wberry They are in the CFL (Culinary Football League) under Head Coach Gordon Ramsey
Saw this before the Super Bowl. Came right back after to read the comments. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I really hope the actualy Players understand, acknowledge and appreciate the time and effort that goes into these aspects of the game
I know Steelers players do, i recall the NFL trying to force them to use artificial turf.Players spoke up about their ground crew and wanted grass to remain
What do you think? They are all spoiled overpayed brats.
They turned the field into a slip n slide! Nice!
This is from last year's super bowl
This is actually pretty cool
That's some hard work no doubt!!
1:45 Howzit Braddah!
NGL this was really fascinating to watch
Thanks for the video! It was really great to see the process being done. Bothe removal and prep work. Thanks!
This narration is AMAZING....my sarcasm is entirely intentional.
No disrespect but the groundskeeper in Soccer are on a whole other level. You just clean and paint. I wish the NFL was all grass.
That’s a lot of work!
Pretty cool to see how they do this 😎
Fantastic atmosphere on the super bowl stadium ground!
Must be great breathing all that paint remover.
"we use *the solution* to remove the paint"
Hmm...
and going down the drain
@@justanotherguy8791I noticed that too! All that paint and solution right down the drain and into the city’s water system.
You have inspired me. I wanna definitely work up to something like that as like a seasonal job if possible
I've seen them do this live when I visited SoFi Stadium. If you get the chance, take the tour. It's freakin' awesome!
When they cleaned the circular brushes all the water goes to a regular drain? So it doesn’t get disposed to a reclining center?
Looks like they are polluting the drains
Of course it does. Its the US, what do you ecpect? Plastic fields, paint and chemicals to remove it.
@@chrismunz8127 The U.S. is one of the most environmentally clean countries in the world. At least compared to the big red country that progressives seem to try very hard to never criticize.
It’s complicated actually, basically there is a massive sump under the wash pad (think kitchen grease trap) except instead of constantly discharging into the sewer all the time, it only releases water when it’s absolutely necessary to do so. Generally before that point, a local plumbing company will come out and suck the tanks dry and take the fluid to be recycled or properly disposed of. Not every manhole is a storm drain.
When your dog pees, where does it go? Do you collet it in a bowl? Do you sop it up with a mop?
Looks like you’re polluting the Earth
The real question is how they made the Arizona field so slipery.
Timing with irrigation.
The Arizona field is on a movable platform. The grass is let outside to get sun and it is watered. They overwartered it right before that Sunday game.
I’m excited for the Super Bowl❤❤
Dude same 🏈

@@Gg-ij7li 🥰
This guys perfectly spoken
It’s still badass how the Rams came out in the throwbacks in Super Bowl Llll.
Hey that's great, but, who are the "Chefs"?
Does removing the paint damage the filed at all? I could see it picking up a lot of the rubber pellets.
What do they do with all the rubber that gets pulled up by the brushes during paint removal?
I wonder if the same process applies to natural grass fields?
Very satisfying
This years field is real grass
Can you forward this to the grounds crew in ARI? They need it
What kind of cleaning agent are ya'll using?
Why don't they play on normal fields with top soil or sand based? What's the big deal with ASTRO turfs
SO Satisfying
Such a different process then a natural grass field.
This video is really cool!
How do you even do an application for the clean up? I would love to do this work
so how good is this for the climate? all these chemicals
God forbid
Bruh just enjoy the field and watch football lol
I wish they were wearing breathing face masks when handling paint and remover.
It wouldn't surprise me if this stuff would cause problems years down the line.
It's probably water based and the "solution" could be soapy water
Then they'll sue the chemical company.
@@codypeterson7166 actually water base paint is worse for your lungs because it’ll stay in the lung and the organism will not handle it as an „external threat“.
The NFL doesn't really seem to care about longterm health risks
It’s generally an OSHA requirement.
This is oddly satisfying
This is so cool, I've always wondered how the kept up the field!
@Insider..
Silence scam.
That was more interesting than the the stupid boring game thats played there
That’s insane I love it
Jesus loves you and is coming back soon!
Believe in His death and resurrection and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour and be saved and abandon your sins and turn to Him!
Have an amazing day!
What kind of solution?
I wonder how they handle this with real grass, Or do you just leave enough time between the last game and the SB for nature to do its thing and grow the painted blades out
I don't care about football in any way but this was super interesting
In my part time i too work in stadiums but not as a painter but as a steward. I have seen this type of cleaning take place in football and rugby stadiums
Arizona didn’t get to watch this video ! 😂
Does your turf experience from USC and the Coliseum ever help you at SoFI? I would imagine they are two totally different worlds. Myself I am currently a Greenskeeper at a municipal golf course yet have managed synthetic fields and know that the two are similar and at the same time worlds apart.
Cool video. I would think painting over the logo in green. Then putting a new logo over that would be quicker and cheaper. But it's of build up over time. Need to invent smart grass. So you just change a computer design. And then the turf can change colors to match the computer design 🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁 I I've near Cleveland Ohio. And did some work for a guy. His company makes the paint your putting on the field.
Question: What is the process of the confetti falling. It sound interesting as any of the 2 teams in the Super Bowl will win.
So imagine all the time, effort and resources that go into this, and yet people don’t believe that the NFL uses magnets in the ball and gloves
THIS IS BAD A$$!!!!! GREAT WORK MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do you scrub the paint off every game just to repaint it?
Thanks for the video. My Supber Bowl field hasn't looked better!
The amount of chemicals they are using just to get a few logos on the field.
How interesting this is quite informative
I want this as my job
When do they coat it in grease?
That's funny
Is this process safe for the grass?
Can't wait to see a video like this for the Gold Cup Final 2023 and the World Cup 2026
Amazing insight
✨✨✨✨Can I ask is the paint biodegradable ?✨✨✨✨✨
Sunflower seed shells on the pitch, from where?
Lots of coaches and players chew on the seeds from stress and just general things. Gum is another popular item
Huh…very interesting! Lots of work involved for something we all take for granted.
Thank you, I was looking for an incredibly effective solution to pollute a large amount of water in record time.
Shovel the confetti? Crazy there is no industrial vacuum cleaner
Cool job
This seems like a really fun job.
Like all things internet, the crappy parts are edited out.
i will never look at confetti the same again.
How do u find these kind of jobs , this is my dream job
Here for the cleaning... I don't care about the Super Bowl.
Interesting but was that real natural grass to begin with ?? Or hybrid turf ?
That's artificial turf
very cool
hard work but what a cool job
It would be a great job until cleanup. My hats off to you.
Who Are The Chefs???!!!
Respirators? Aerosolized paint and thinner for hours on end..
Is this turf or grass
I wonder if some ppl keep some confetti as keepsakes like if it’s their first Super Bowl 🤷🏽♂️ I definitely would.
Do they re use the water ?
This was pretty cool
You never see the behind the scenes.
Thanks.
wonder if they get free tickets or passes since they are stadium ground workers of the property?
What an absolutely incredible waste of resources just for marketing - paint, solvents, water, paper, time, fuel. All for one match.
A match that generates billions of dollars
@romulusachalaye1121 sure but at what environmental cost? Cash doesn't get rid of pollution
Thats great but who’s the Chefs?
Yeah but how do they move that little yellow line at the first down marker so fast? ^_^
Alchemy
I was wondering how this was done
Dope.
Is the grass real or fake?
Fake
It certainly wasn't always this way. But fans and players have come to expect pristine playing surfaces with both big league baseball and football.
The amount of paint going on their shoes...surprised no one wears shoe covers.
Probably have a set just for painting
While interesting to watch, that's such a massive waste. I'm surprised the strands of fake grass aren't pre colored
Seems like it would be more of a waste to use new turf everytime there’s a new game painting is also less expensive I’d imagine professional grade turf is expensive
@@Slpsii or they could just not change the turf at all???
@@fish_citizen They use stadiums for other purposes, aka concerts, or things like monster jam.
They need to treat it like they would any other week or the potential of SB LVII can happen.
Despite everything that goes in to preparing a field, particularly for a Super Bowl, it’s pretty unthinkable that the field can be as bad as it was for SB 52. The field should never be a talking point consistently throughout any game much less influence the outcome of a Super Bowl.
