Yorgos Lanthimos is the only director working right now who works with freakishly original and weird scipts. He won the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes this year for this film. STOKED!
I think its a bit far to say "only director" - there are many. Just unfortunately, their films don't always reach the level of publicity that Yorgos receives.
This is an excellent movie. It's also a conversation piece meaning it encourages people to talk, to exchange ideas and reactions about the movie. Not just did you like the movie or director but the concept as a whole. Many people no matter how hardcore horror fans they are do not watch movies that harm children or animals. This was a bold choice; shocking but perfect. I'm partial to horror that ends the 'wrong' way. If you liked this make sure to watch A Cure for Wellness, and The Invitation there is gore and the psychological aspect as well. Editing a year later based upon a comment that some don't like gratuitous sex in movies like this. While it's no porno, this movie is meant to make you uncomfortable and the scenes are definitely WTF scenes but in a way that speaks of character dysfunction. There's also a wanking episode described in explicit icky detail that gave me nightmare fuel for months.
The soundtrack, cinematography and overall direction is what makes this film a modern day pyschological masterpiece. I'd say the script reads pretty normal or atleast not as crazy as the film
This movie is a documentary about narcissistic family + narcissistic or a narcissist Martin. 'Crazy' thing is that narcissists are recognized as 'normal' since it is only type of character or traits & psychologists tend to think that they do not suffer, neglecting that they live in fear which make them control others, deny they have any issue or commit any mistake. But they 'make crazy' others by gaslighting, manipulations, triangulation, smear campaign, 'mirroring', love bombing', 'narcissistic projection', etc.
Not gonna lie. Part of me was like, "Girl, can you stop singing for one second? I am trying to watch a trailer. Thank you!!" BTW, I know it was an artistic choice to add atmosphere. It just only reaches much of its impact toward the end of the trailer. Till then, it's just hating on my ADD
+Paloma Blanca How'd you know about my day job? ^_~ Seriously tho, sorry if the earlier comment offended you in any way. I did find the song distracting and do have ADD, so c'est la vie. Sorry again and have a good day!
Even if you include comparing underarm hair, this is the wierdest movie i have ever seen. It can't be horror, just how shallow each one reacts trying to save thier own lives, even the mother. Just human behavioural analytical experiment, thats all.
@Dorian Parker You and these 8 people totally missing the point. Lack of explanation make the story more eerie and mysterious. I will not forget about this genius film.
I don't know why I kept postponing to watch this movie . I finally saw it today . very different from the clique genre of horror movies. Not cringe with jumps scares and corny dialogue. The script, way of acting , the storyline were all very creative , psychologically terrifying and intriguing. A must watch
just saw the film. couldnt breath for two hours. best movie of the years and one of the best of the last 10 years. he bring new meaning to "intense scene". what an opening scene!!you have no idea what you are going to see..
funny, I saw this movie yesterday expecting nothing, but was somehow, I don't know why, expecting an intense opening scene. I think the director achieved his goal superbly. Clearly one of the best non-mainstream movies. I liked mother! also.
The whole movie I was trying to figure out if its just psychological and based in the real world, or if it takes place in the world of magic, and you really dont find out until the very end.
I saw it on theaters. It's pretty amazing. It's all you want and all you can think of in a suburbian revenge story, and i think the writers and the director handled that pretty well. One of my fav of 2017.
Nico Marquez15 can you explain to me what is the idea behind this movie , I watched it and I couldn’t understand how the boy could control the kids by let them not acting like humans and why after he killed his son his daughter then she could act as normal human?
I don’t understand why Bob was put in the death circle. It would be an accidental choice between wife and daughter. Honestly, the wife should go, especially since she’s unwilling to die for her children.

Yorgos Lanthimos is a really interesting director. Previous films include the very unorthodox Dogtooth & Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer is very much in the same mould but for me this is his best work to date. This is a psychological thriller about a surgeon who is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice when a teenage boy from his past gives him an ultimatum. His life starts to fall apart when he realises he must pay for his past mistakes. When you start to watch this the first thing that hits you is the dialogue and the way the actors perform it. It's very monotone , robotic , almost emotionless . This is a group of people that acts unlike any other and it's mesmerising to watch. The acting is great. Colin Farrell , Barry Keoghan and Raffey Cassidy are superb and Keoghan takes creepy to a new level . This is based on a Greek mythology story about retribution and reminds me a lot of Michael Haneke's Funny Games. It's one of those films that sticks in your brain for a long while after watching it . It leaves you with lot's of questions ( in a good way) and the answers are pretty obvious when you sit and think about it. 9 out of 10 Highly Recommended.
All the haters in the comments are just kids wanting to see horror and gore. I would have probably said the same when I was 12. When ya get older you appreciate a good thriller and this was defo a very good movie Imo. 👍
My favorite part of this trailer is how bothered so many people are by the girl kinda half-assedly singing Ellie Goulding. It’s definitely made in the truest Lanthimos way ever. Disturbing people through pure “wtf, whyyy?!” ❤️
The comments are so useless, not one of them was about the actual movie except that one guy that said "I'll never forgot that movie" which had like 10 likes, I'm watching it F it.
Barry Keoghan is amazing. I just saw Saltburn. Such an amazing actor. I thought I had seen him somewhere and it was in this film which is also amazing.
@@Lantement Here we are in the 21st century enjoying films that depict reality now. Saying 'woke' in a derogatory way means that you're not used to change. Anyway, Purple Noon looks interesting and wacky and I'd be happy to watch that to see differences. Omega Man and I am Legend comes to mind as well.
Comments are a mess. As in; replies under a popular tweet are more cohesive and make more sense, and that really says it all. So here's one actually about the movie: In all honesty; not worth the waste of the 2h of your life or they money you pay for your monthly subscription. I'm not sure who thought it's a good idea for the actors to deliver every line in the style of text-to-speech robots, but they darn right made sure it was done diligently and without a fail throughout the entirety of the movie. I think the single instance that almost deviates is when that anesthesiologist asks: "What do I get from it?" but even that's still very much blandly and roboticlly said. The plot is neither horribly predictable, nor ingenious or original, but once you've stretched what could have easily taken place in an hour of screen-time to more than double of that, it loses any real value. The movie is also packed full of unwarranted nods to the taboo-porn industry, which is odd, and gross, not artistic & feels forced, misplaced if also funny at moments. The characters are bland, they feel "unfinished" (like those characters in RPG games that give you "quests" or "tasks" and have a very limited spectrum of reactions and answers), so there's constant "cringe" feeling lingering as you watch them interact. There's also a persistent, questionably subtle, shade being thrown at the Christianity on too many occasions in the movie to be missed even by a simpleton. I suspect whoever wrote the script is an atheist, a former (and bitter) Christian or a homosexual that hates Christianity. These moments do not contribute to the story, and are utterly odd, they sort of feel like random commercial breaks, pasted in seamlessly with what you're watching. I genuinely don't get all the "love" critics and viewers give this, people must really be getting bombarded with too much Hollywood rubbish that a mediocre attempt at an actual thriller mystery seems like art to them. Which is sad. Hopefully films get better when the Ronna dies out with the vaccine. Oh and Farrell looks like what gays call "a bear" in this, who's in dire need of cardio. 4.5/10 and I'm being generous lol.
See, this is a pretty darn good trailer. It doesn't seem to spoil too much, and it just leaves you curious enough about the movie without straight-up telling you everything. And I'm not sure what the plot is yet, but I'm curious to see this! And yea, all three of Yorgos Lanthimos' films I've seen so far (Dogtooth, Alps, and The Lobster) have been great, so let's hope he'll be four for four here!

This looks amazing. Such a fan of all of the work Lanthimos has produced thus far. I am already enthralled. Knowing so little, my mind is already doing gymnastics. Also, to snag Nicole is already reason enough to watch. The Lobster had a sort of vignette feel, like reading a short story that existed in another reality not to different from our own, but without the grandiose explanations mainstream media is so fixated on whenever exploring fantasy or sci fi (simple minds need rationalizing). However arthouse this is, it looks to be the most grounded in reality to come from the director. I'm excited to see his growth.
psychological horror is so rare nowadays ( due to the popularity of supernatural and found footage films ) but it's usually the most effective and truly horrifying . This looks really interesting which is something I haven't been able to say about a horror film for a while.
This is one of the most underrated trailers for any movie ever , I haven't seen the movie but this is one of the best trailers I have ever seen in my life .
Just another brilliant movie from Yorgos Lanthimos ! From Alps, Dogtooth, The Lobster to The Killing Of a Sacred Deer he never disappointed me. This man is a genius ! The Script is awesome and so is the cinematography. Actors are reaaaally great too ! I went 3 times to the cinema to watch it ! It is really a masterpiece.
This film is based on Albert Camus's interpretation of the work of Franz Kafka, presented in "The Myth of Sisyphus". In this book Camus describes human reaction to the "absurd", our inability to understand a universe that precedes human rational. Kafka according to Camus writes in his novels about the ease by which people are adapted to the absurd in social matters. The film is a version of Kafka's Metamprphosis, whose last paragraph is almost adentical to the final scene of the movie. Kafka's reoccuring theme is fate, luck of control in one's life, which is also very prominent in the film and represented by the boy.
Kafka's work is good, weird but good. This is just weird and pretends to be good, which doesn't accomplishes. And not scary at all, I was scared of the awfully bad soundtrack that was unbearable, fear of losing my hearing.
A24 makes only two kinds of movies. movies with brilliant characters and gripping accessible storytelling or... stuff like this where i can literally feel the directors breath on my ear going "ask me what it means! Ask me what it means!"
I understood Martin’s awkward behavior, but what was up with the other characters? They all acted like robots. It felt like the family members had just met each other. Their conversations were so unnatural.
Im Greek and I have to tell you I am not a fan of Lanthimos. I cannot watch his movies more than some minutes... I find no meaning at all in these films and its true I have tried a lot. But... I must admit that Yorgos Lanthimos has achieved something extraordinary. Either you will absolute love his films either you will absolute hate them. This is admirable and despite of my rejection I cannot deny this guy's work and effort.
my all time favorite yorgos movie. if you're debating watching, definitely check it out! definitely a strange movie but the eerie thrilling aspect was done flawlessly.
The movie narrates a social drama surrounded by a number of symbolism together with strong surreal elements of an event that cannot be averted, despite how well-controlled and organised human nature is. Human error will always exist and will occasionally have irrepairable ramifications and the wrong-doer's soul will have the right to seek redemption. The dialogue among the main characters of the movie could be a monologue of Steven's judgement inside his mind, who caused the irrepairable error. It could also imply that the only way to achieve any kind of existential redemption would only be through a personal sacrifice of his own.
Thanks for explaining. No wonder so many people didn't like it. It's sounds very artsy and quite a few movie goers don't like that. As soon as I saw that Nicole Kidman was in it, I knew it wouldn't be a typical flick. It sounds up my alley so I'm going to give it a shot.

Yorgos Lanthimos is the only director working right now who works with freakishly original and weird scipts. He won the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes this year for this film. STOKED!
💭💭💭
cough Charlie Kaufman cough
I think its a bit far to say "only director" - there are many. Just unfortunately, their films don't always reach the level of publicity that Yorgos receives.
is Charlie Kaufman working on a new film?
Kartikeya Dutta shane carruth ?
There's also a wanking episode described in explicit icky detail that gave me nightmare fuel for months.
the girl singing the whole time made me angry.
Why?
Fuck yes. Thank you a24 for another film that looks unique and amazing
Hi Nick! The movie is amazing, and do you have any other comments on A24 trailers?
Not gonna lie. Part of me was like, "Girl, can you stop singing for one second? I am trying to watch a trailer. Thank you!!"
BTW, I know it was an artistic choice to add atmosphere. It just only reaches much of its impact toward the end of the trailer. Till then, it's just hating on my ADD
+Paloma Blanca How'd you know about my day job? ^_~
Seriously tho, sorry if the earlier comment offended you in any way. I did find the song distracting and do have ADD, so c'est la vie. Sorry again and have a good day!
I think the song being sung by her worked perfectly for the trailer.
I said stfu lil gurrol...lol jk but she did kinda get on my nerves though!
my thoughts, EXACTLY!
I've thought the same way!
Why do people think its weird so its bad, like what do you want? Jumpscares?
Childish.
Even if you include comparing underarm hair, this is the wierdest movie i have ever seen. It can't be horror, just how shallow each one reacts trying to save thier own lives, even the mother. Just human behavioural analytical experiment, thats all.
Logic left the chat.
Smh
Dorian Parker i think if we had a clear explanation of what that kid was it would make it a lot less frightening
A must watch
just saw the film. couldnt breath for two hours. best movie of the years and one of the best of the last 10 years. he bring new meaning to "intense scene". what an opening scene!!you have no idea what you are going to see..
einat schwarz so can u pls tell me what was going on in that movie?
I am going to cinema on 23th november with 10 of my friends and i am going to watch it...
funny, I saw this movie yesterday expecting nothing, but was somehow, I don't know why, expecting an intense opening scene. I think the director achieved his goal superbly. Clearly one of the best non-mainstream movies. I liked mother! also.
skylaxx please tell me this movie isn't like "mother"
chuimon slp it is ..but mother was better
A24 is my love.
Thank you.

Hey pretty
Anyone else craving spaghetti after watching this?
Ausy LOL Exactly ... The only feeling that i had after that trailer, craving spaghetti hehe Says enough i think lolll
No bc that scene was disgusting
Ausy Yes ! Big bowl of pasta😂
lmao YES i made spaghetti after watching this lol
Knees weak, arms are heavy.
One of the coolest trailers I’ve seen. It instantly made me want to see the film. Once I did, I was blown away at how good it is.
You liked the singing? 😬
@@drewrok78 yeah. What's the big deal?
This movie belongs to the top 5 psychological horror movies of the decade. A W E S O M E
The whole movie I was trying to figure out if its just psychological and based in the real world, or if it takes place in the world of magic, and you really dont find out until the very end.
@@Scorch428 I didn't find out which it was at the end of the movie either. Care to enlighten me?
boring movie which makes no sense
i dont have kids and it fucked me up
So stoked for this. The Lobster is a masterpiece.
The lobster is shit
It's definitely not better than Dogtooth.
It is better than Dogtooth but not than Alps.
They don't need to be stacked from best to worst. They're different. They're all brilliant.
Dogtooth is a masterwork of atmospheric filmmaking, the lobster is great, alps is a fun conceptual film thats all.
The cinematography is fucking awesome
SpymanTIVC kinda reminds me of Kubrick (The Shining) the way the camera zooms in and out and follows the characters
i think it is
Check out Kynodontas (Dogtooth) if you haven't already, the cinematography is also great
It's the only thing thats awesome, the movie itself sucks big time! So cryptic it makes literally no sense.....
Right?
That sounds like me when I'm singing...
i never sing in public because i'd be embarrised
lol probably better not to sing then. No offense.
Mya im surprised you haven't stopped posting in public websites with that spelling
sexy..
Sounds like Shit!!
What a haunting masterpiece. I'll never forget this movie.
With god by my side, hopefully this movie will be forgotten by the end of the week.
@@Itschriscruz Why?
@@Itschriscruz howd that work out
I saw it on theaters.
@@mahmoud90920me too, i dont understand, please someone explain 😱😱😱😱😵
The singing really distracted me
Sam Y ...Her acting is worse
😩😢
I think that's on purpose. The singing really gave an unsettling vibe to the trailer.
thats the point
yh because its crap movie with crap song lol
I don’t understand why Bob was put in the death circle. It would be an accidental choice between wife and daughter.
Honestly, the wife should go, especially since she’s unwilling to die for her children.
I went in to this movie without knowing a thing or having seen a trailer. I think it was “better” that way.
It is always better not to watch "analysis", seen trailers is good the most of the time (not USA trailers), synopsis always.
The girl singing has me dead 💀😂
“You’re too young to worry.” “That’s what you said about my dad.” That is when I knew exactly what was going on.
This was one of the most unsettling films I've ever seen
A24, you had my curiosity. Now, you have my attention.
And Blumhouse💯
We, we don't have to worry 'bout nothing
'Cause we got the fire, and we're burning one hell of a something
They, they gonna see us from outer space, outer space
Light it up, like we're the stars of the human race, human race
When the light started out they don’t know what they heard
Strike the match, play it loud, giving love to the world
We'll be raising our hands, shining up to the sky
'Cause we got the fire, fire, fire
Yeah we got the fire, fire, fire
And we gonna let it burn, burn, burn, burn
We gonna let it burn, burn, burn, burn
Gonna let it burn, burn, burn, burn
We gonna let it burn, burn, burn, burn
We can light it up, up, up
So they can't put it out, out, out
Ellie Goulding, "Burn"
this movie is a masterpiece! Barry Keoghan's performance is STUNNING.
9 out of 10
Highly Recommended.
This looks interesting. I'm happy that we have studios like A24 to produce these type of one-shot movie that have original story (no sequels, etc, etc)
Honestly, this movie was art.
I agree. It was executed perfectly.
Sad
Lol, you need to get out more often. This was about as artistic as an Instagram selfie-model.
I thought it was a bit nonsensical tbh
@@VantaClawz Can you argue how it isn't artistic? That just seems like really ignorant and lazy criticism.
Just watched this yesterday. It made me so uncomfortable but it was amazing.
A trailer that makes me want to watch a movie instead of making me feel like I just watch the movie? Now this is a trailer!
All the haters in the comments are just kids wanting to see horror and gore. I would have probably said the same when I was 12.
When ya get older you appreciate a good thriller and this was defo a very good movie Imo. 👍
FlyingHigh99999 im 12 and loved the movie
I’m old and this movie was no horror, it was a waste of life. It was just bad
I'm in my 20s and didn't like it
I actually loved The Lobster. I'll definitely be seeing this.
This looks so good. Yorgos Lanthimos can go no wrong.
Always coming back to see the masterpiece this trailer is, it give me goosebumps everytime. Such an excellent movie
Yo! How was the movie? Planning on watching it tonight
Barry Keoghan is amazing. I just saw Saltburn. Such an amazing actor. I thought I had seen him somewhere and it was in this film which is also amazing.
Saltburn is just a silly woke remake of the amazing Purple Noon (Plein Soleil, 1960)
@@Lantement
Here we are in the 21st century enjoying films that depict reality now. Saying 'woke' in a derogatory way means that you're not used to change.
Anyway, Purple Noon looks interesting and wacky and I'd be happy to watch that to see differences.
Omega Man and I am Legend comes to mind as well.
According to the director this is a comedy... Imagine what his vision of a full on horror film would be then!
There is not an ounce of comedy through out the whole film. If anything this was more disturbing than hereditary
@@sk1192 It’s a “dark” comedy. The way they talk throughout the film is bizarre and arguably humorous.
This movie is probably in my top 10 of all time. Its pretty good.
Masterpiece of a movie. I haven't been so scared by a film in ages.
then you are scared easily
Uhhhhh, I've never heard a pop song be remastered to send chills down my spine.
Comments are a mess. As in; replies under a popular tweet are more cohesive and make more sense, and that really says it all. So here's one actually about the movie:
In all honesty; not worth the waste of the 2h of your life or they money you pay for your monthly subscription.
Not one lie was told in this review, thanks mate
I really love the way how they use the singing.
It really make this trailer something else
Ah....a MAN of culture I see
0:46 scariest part.
This movie shook me with its unique sense of horror and dread... brilliant movie and so unique. Lanthimos is a master
It's disturbing film
That’s the most chilling rendition of an Ellie Goulding song.
I feel sad for people who don’t understand this fantastic movie 10/10
Thats the problem with trailers on YT; never read the fck comments. They either spoil or make you confused with" This is good " and " This is trash".
I watched it but still kinda confused. Help please?

GREAT 👏🏽😍
A24 has some of the best cinematic experiences. This is a must watch
Lanthimos and Aster need to collab on a film right quick lmao
When I saw the title, I thought of Princess Mononoke...
Buenomars same
Anime fans unite
That movie is 1000000x better than this
Jesus, this looks phenomenal.
The scariest thing about this movie was the father. Seriously, this guy had more issues than his little friend torturing the family.
psychological horror is so rare nowadays ( due to the popularity of supernatural and found footage films ) but it's usually the most effective and truly horrifying . This looks really interesting which is something I haven't been able to say about a horror film for a while.
Is that George from Dunkirk?
Yess dud
StupidCrapyolo i bet he's gonna die in like 30 minutes of screen time

This is one of the most underrated trailers for any movie ever , I haven't seen the movie but this is one of the best trailers I have ever seen in my life .
Just another brilliant movie from Yorgos Lanthimos ! From Alps, Dogtooth, The Lobster to The Killing Of a Sacred Deer he never disappointed me. This man is a genius ! The Script is awesome and so is the cinematography. Actors are reaaaally great too ! I went 3 times to the cinema to watch it ! It is really a masterpiece.

Chris Chris well not every movie needs to have shitty jumpscares every second to be scary sorry to break it to you, this movie was good and creepy.
Yorgos Lanthimos is a fucking genius, and I have no doubt that this movie will be absolutely incredible
I have never been so happy for a movie to be over more then when watching this one.
Kafka's reoccuring theme is fate, luck of control in one's life, which is also very prominent in the film and represented by the boy.
you can interpret many movies in a Kafka way, but this movies is not worth that
Kafka's work is good, weird but good. This is just weird and pretends to be good, which doesn't accomplishes. And not scary at all, I was scared of the awfully bad soundtrack that was unbearable, fear of losing my hearing.
Barry Keoghan plays the most frustrating of characters, where you simply want to grab him by the throat lol.
What an insane movie
I’m never watching it again
same. I had no words
Me too 😐🙄
Me too 😂 I don't watch until the end coz the dialogue is so bad and the plot is meh
No idea what the story is gonna be really, but damn it, I am hooked. Perfect trailer again from A24
A24 makes only two kinds of movies. movies with brilliant characters and gripping accessible storytelling or... stuff like this where i can literally feel the directors breath on my ear going "ask me what it means! Ask me what it means!"
I have never laughed so hard at something so TRUEEEEE
Another amazing film from Yorgos Lanthimos. Wish more people saw this instead of Jigsaw.
You have to be fucking sick in the head to like this movie. I know this, because I'm fucking sick in the head and I loved it.
Even the trailer gave me chills for the suspense, A24 keeps my hope alive for horror films
"The killing of a sacred deer" reminds me "Iphigenia in Aulis" by Euripides! Inspiring title and really interesting trailer! Go Yorgos go!
It did not only remind you. It's obviously a modern interpretation of this myth, the makers themselves made that very clear.
my all time favorite yorgos movie. if you're debating watching, definitely check it out! definitely a strange movie but the eerie thrilling aspect was done flawlessly.
The movie narrates a social drama surrounded by a number of symbolism together with strong surreal
elements of an event that cannot be averted, despite how well-controlled and organised human nature is. Human error will always exist and will occasionally have irrepairable ramifications and the wrong-doer's soul will have the right to seek redemption. The dialogue among the main characters of the movie could be a monologue of Steven's judgement
inside his mind, who caused the irrepairable error.
They shouldn’t have spoiled the paralysis of the children in the trailer
