Just to answer the couple of food related things you wondered about: Ranch is definitely available in Finland, but not that popular with pizza. Some chains (like KotiPizza) do offer it though. And as for banana peppers, as far as I know, Finnish subways only seem to offer green bell peppers.
I'm an Aussie and I've never heard of putting ranch on a pizza, and never heard of a banana pepper :P here I was, thinking I was just going to learn something about Finland, and I've heard 2 things about USA eating habits I didn't know as well :)

A safe country, so nothing to worry about. You're right about single travel and it being expensive. Best way to see it is to make a Finnish friend, which isn't always easy. We Finns don't do the tourists round unless with . Not complaining, as it brings in money. There are indigenous Sami (and other) people covering Fennoscandia who really live up north. Rures in the sauna and dipping? The only rule is to go in naked. Mix if everyone is ok with it, but that's the culture. Sauna isn't sexual. See Helsinki. Completely different country to Rovaniemi/north.
