Is it worth to stay a night at Chiang Khong near the border or cross it straight from Chiang Rai like you did ? Also would you stay one night at Houayxay ?
Hey! We stayed one night in Chiang Rai, and we recommend that! Not so much Chiang Khong as it is so close to the border 😁 and we stayed 2 nights in Houay xai, but to be honest one night would be fine as there is not much to do 👌🏽

where and how did you book to get from chiang rai to chiang khong please? just at the bus station, can you prebook online
just turn up at the bus station and get your ticket, its a first come first serve basis

Can you pay for the visa with bahts? Or USD? And is cash required?
I don’t believe there is power for charging on the boat, they accept a wide range of currencies at the border crossing 👌🏽
