I grew up in Hong Kong before moving to the US. I gotta say the food that you tried was not exactly in Hong Kong style, more like random Chinese food that even most locals find exotic. And no, we are not insane and we don't eat pets. The Hong Kong cuisine usually refer to the kind of food invented and became popular during the British rule (before 1997 and yeah, we can date it decades back before even the communist rules China). I suggest you visit the local restaurants called Cha Chaan Teng. You can get some nice food that doesn't sound weird at all, like the Siu Mei, toast and chicken steak. The breakfast there is highly recommended. Other stuff that is more perceived as "Hong Kong food" would be in the Cantonese style, like the Siu Mai and Wan Tan noodle, which you can get in China Town across the US, where ever you can hear Cantonese. Plus, a tip when you are shopping around the stores, the merchandise sold in the stalls can be fake, but the ones from proper shops in the buildings are generally genuine and they don't bargain at all. The British wouldn't really let the people sell fake stuff in properly registered shops, but we don't know what China's gonna make it to be years later. The Blue Girl beer that you drank is indeed a German brand and brewed in South Korea, customized to fit the taste of the locals. But in case you miss any special stuff in Hong Kong, you can always visit China Town in Vancouver or Toronto, Canada. It sounds odd, but people say the Hong Kong food in Canada is more traditional and tastier, just because lots of the original chefs left Hong Kong before the handover to China, and during the political turmoil, to Canada or the UK, among the hundreds of thousands that fled the city. I understand people have a lot of stereotypes against Chinese. I don't blame you, because we are not that different lol. I just wanted to say. I have never enjoyed "vlogs" or travel videos. It feels too long to watch, and I get bored. You edit the video just enough to cut to a different place, but not too much where I feel like I've missed out on your journey. Your talk to the camera is so real and genuine, not a bunch of blabber, and when you do go off on a small rant, it's rather funny and entertaining, while also showing a real side of you and how you think. And I appreciate you actually learning the language, even just learning "Xie xie" is enough. It kind of annoys me watching some journey youtubers who visit countries and don't even know how to say "Thank you". You try to eat the traditional cuisine, even though the last tries were unsuccessful. I saw some foods on the menu that were Chinese but seemed pretty doable and nice. Yet you order the one I'd be too afraid to try, and that's great (or not). XD I've always wanted to try going to school and living in Japan. As a shy Norwegian their society/people feels like something that would fit me, and I love their culture and how beautiful their cities and streets are. Watching your videos has really opened my eyes to how it's truly like, even though I'm not alike you as a person. But it's made me feel more comfortable to visit. Thank you for just being you!
Hong Kong is a weird place, when you look at the GDP per capita it's insanely wealthy yet many parts of it truly feel like some random third world country, in many aspects major mainland Chinese cities like Shenzhen or Shanghai actually feel more first world than Hong Kong.
That’s because many major mainland Chinese cities were basically thrown up overnight, whereas Hong Kong has been a thriving region for much much longer, and has a better mix of old and new, with old British and Chinese influence mixed together.

There is so much good food in Hong Kong. I've lived in Thailand for 22 years (since I was 21) & I did a lot of business in HK & I've never spent so much time in another Asian country than I have HK- there is amazing local food, but going in blind like that is a huge no no. That will be even worse in mainland China, if you ever go to that dump. I know you say you want to just get there and explore without research & after travelling Asia extensively, I learnt many years ago that this romantic idea of going in blind just does not lead to anything but bad experiences & a lot of time spent on the shitter.

This is like judging Italian cuisine because of Mule's balls. I like the honesty and taking it as it goes, but Chinese cuisine is amazing with such a wide range. I would argue that most asian cuisines are but a modification of it, including Japanese. You do need to know what the hell you are ordering though.
Not sure if you already went to Shanghai and Beijing? But China is really far superior in most regards as far as Asia is concerned. Better food, nicer, and I mean MUCH nicer hotels. Clean streets. Safe. Tea eggs in the crock pot in every convenience store

@@LanguorousEngineer yes, but it’s polite to say hello in the native tongue of the area you are in
@@operandexpanse Sure, but there's literally hundreds of different local dialects in China, virtually every province and city have their own local dialect - are we expected to learn every single one?
Just stick to Mandarin
@@LanguorousEngineer it’s HK. It was a different county up until recently with a very different culture. Not just another province.
@@operandexpanse Again, every single province in China has their own unique culture, there's nothing special about HK here either
Glad I'm not the only one who thought the food in HK was sub-par at best.
The best of Hong Kong I found was the fish market restaurants on Cheung Chau. Mine was still flopping around before they bludgeoned it, gutted it, and deep-fried it.
British influence maybe
You went to the wrong places then my friend. Next time get a local to take you to the best spots, food in Hong Kong generally is AMAZING
@@heroe1486Yeah of course - those British are renowned for their love of pig intestines, overly spicy food, and snail broths.
Food in Hong Kong is amazing. Guy goes to shittest restaurant in a tourist trap is all.
I've had some of my best meals ever in HK
I really appreciate your honesty in regards to local foods & locations 🙏🏽 unlike others who falsely misrepresent & set false expectations for tourists!!
Trolling in the vipers 😂
Your honesty is what sells me. You’re obvi not a dick. You’re just a good, honest bloke.

Never stop travelling like you do! This is the best channel out there!
10:45 was that a world of t-shirts reference? "This is my city now"! lol
Thanks for the honesty, I'm sick of other youtubers eating weird garbage food and trying to sell us on how amazing it is.
Your honesty is so refreshing. Love your sense of humor.
No offense to this dude, but you seem to have a pretty skewed view of what this place is. I've been to Hong Kong many times, and its home to some of the best and affordable Michelin starred restaurants. Hope your stay will get better, but from this video it seems you aren't gonna enjoy this place.
Yeah HK is a mega rich and sophisticated place. I don’t think he understand the difference between HK and China 😅
Rich for sure, but when I was there I saw countless amounts of prostitutes and beggars especially near Nathan St. I never see such things in Shanghai and Mainland in general, and it is generally also much cleaner. @@operandexpanse
@@CarlSkrivergaard HK definitely has a dark side but I haven’t seen anything on the level you described. Not saying it’s not there.
I think in the mainland the gov cracks down on those things so that’s why you don’t see it. I personally like HK because they have a passion for democracy and freedom. Of course that’s being eroded.
@@operandexpanse Since when does HK have PASSION for democracy and freedom, 2014? 2019?🤣
@@operandexpanse There's no difference now.
XD
I've always wanted to try going to school and living in Japan.
I live here!!!How long are you in Hong Kong for and do you have any plans?
If duck blood and intestines turn you off, then you can skip Taiwan on any future trips to Asia.
Where can I get this IKEA phone cover?? I love it!
But can't find this particular one online 😕
This channel is great because the guy just goes into everything blind. That bowl of urine-tasting noodles is actually well known, even among the Chinese, for being an acquired taste because it does apparently smell and taste like excrement of some sort.
some people love the smell of skunk... many do not... trust me 😅
also, fun fact, the famous candy called cadburry egg, has beaver oil from its rear in the tail area 😅 for flavoring
@@dertythegrower fun fact it is eggwhite and sugar.. what made up nonsense is this beaver junk... they were originally called frys creme egg... are you that gullible to just believe things with out checking them?
Love your channel. It can be addicting to watch your honest and interesting travels.
You are the only travel vlogger that I watch.
BS, Don't believe you !@@dertythegrower
I love that you're honest about the food, I would feel the same way if I went there. I would be so afraid to try anything. Lol
Come to Malaysia 🇲🇾🙏🏻. Lots of places with good foods . You will not regret
3:08 Don't ask him about India :D
There is so much good food in Hong Kong. I've lived in Thailand for 22 years (since I was 21) & I did a lot of business in HK & I've never spent so much time in another Asian country than I have HK- there is amazing local food, but going in blind like that is a huge no no. That will be even worse in mainland China, if you ever go to that dump.
I know you say you want to just get there and explore without research & after travelling Asia extensively, I learnt many years ago that this romantic idea of going in blind just does not lead to anything but bad experiences & a lot of time spent on the shitter.
dude i've been following your vlog and they are amazing. I was just in HK several days before, would've hosted you. Suggestion- go top of Tai Ping Shan(mountain) at night (7-9pm ish) by bus and see the lights of HK, it's very cyber punk like. When going down the mountain, the train ride is very fun to try, it gives you around 70 degree inclined view of all the buildings! Have fun in HK!
Hong Kongers have amazing cuisine. I don’t know WTH you’re talking about.
I am from Hong Kong but I do agree our food might sound weird to some people… I like eating pig blood and duck blood but people not from hk probably find it disgusting
You got offended by someone name "small brained American "? 😂 The guy got clicks by being an obnoxious jerk 😅 just have a good laugh
Some people on twitter dragging you and calling you a racist over this (without @'ing you). My last message got deleted, but search your own username there, and it should pop up.
I love how confident you got in the Pit Vipers 😂
It’s surprising that you travelled through Europe and didn’t eat any blood along the way
were you concerned about consuming gutter oil in China? that soup looked a little suspect
All i was thinking about 😂
Awkward Superhero kinda fits you though... 😎 Love your content - keep up the good work!
This is like judging Italian cuisine because of Mule's balls. I like the honesty and taking it as it goes, but Chinese cuisine is amazing with such a wide range. I would argue that most asian cuisines are but a modification of it, including Japanese. You do need to know what the hell you are ordering though.
Dude I love your videos! Uncensored and funny!

Not sure if you already went to Shanghai and Beijing? But China is really far superior in most regards as far as Asia is concerned. Better food, nicer, and I mean MUCH nicer hotels. Clean streets. Safe. Tea eggs in the crock pot in every convenience store
