    I stopped wearing makeup about two months ago! I used to get up every morning and do a full face of makeup for a couple reasons. One , my acne was horrible ! I nearly went on Accutane - so happy I didn't. Second, I wasn't confident with the way I looked without makeup and felt like people would judge me if I didn't wear makeup. Well, I took a huge jump out of my comfort zone and just stopped wearing makeup and my skin cleared up so much. My scars have faded immensely. And when I do wear makeup I look and feel special and beautiful! Makeup is great - but I do agree it's nice to give your skin a break! Just my personal experience!

      YoitsKendahl I completely stopped wearing makeup about 6 months ago and I was really hoping it would help, because everyone said it cleared up their skin, but my acne is just as awful as ever, so now I'm just thinking screw it, might as well wear it when I go out so I don't look totally gross and diseased lol

      myrrdwen I also stopped wearing makeup about 2 years ago when I was in freshman year and my face got worse (so I started wearing makeup again). So I get it - acne sucks so bad. I hope you find something that works for you! And you are beautiful no matter what!

    • @reckonerwheel5336

      myrrdwen Haha, I feel you. I mean, I think it's important for everyone with acne to try going makeup-free but yep, some skin does not give two fucks about having no foundation -- it still carries on with the pimple party. 😐

      It can be hard to do, but it really does help to give your skin some time off makeup, even if that's just on the weekends or making sure you take it off earlier when you get home. It won't solve every skin problem certainly, and some people's acne will not be solved that way, but skin wants to breathe, and it rewards you for letting it breathe. Also, skin often clears up as you get older too!

      well here is a thing.. you do not need to use lots of expensive products to clear your skin. these products only heal the symptoms, not the cause of the problem skin. just try and find out yourself... eat healthily, work out, cut out dairy. find out what works for you. if you really have bad acne see a dermatologist, all these creams wont really help it, if the problem is an hormonal imbalance. but to treat not-clear skin you can also find cheaper products which help. to be honest, i would not use that much stuff, because I want my skin to regenerate itself, I just give what my skin what it need (eg when my skin is dry i use moisturizer, if it is not, I dont use it). the only skin products I use are from Dr. Hauschka, they are not suuuuper cheap but not that expensive either, but they work amazing for me. and even if sometimes my skin breaks out, it does not stop me from feeling good without makeup, so you dont have to spend like 500$ to feel good :))

      summersunsets honestly once I added a vitamin C serum to my skin care routine, my skin cleared up within 1 month! I didn't change anything else and I use drugstore products. I also have oily/acne prone skin. Maybe try it out and see if it works for you

    • @90xolove
      @90xolove 7 років тому +1

      summersunsets you can replace all of the products with drugstore products. The neutrogena hydroboost line is pretty good and the elf aqua skincare line is pretty good too. I also like the body shop face masks and born lippy lip balms and just tried their nutriganics serum. Their products go on sale often. Also you can use rose water as a toner or essence and can usually find a large bottle online or at an Asian or Indian food market and pour into a spray bottle.

      I suggest you to try korean skincare! Well it may be hard to get but they are waaayyy cheaper and offer comparable result to high end product. ex: you may replace that SK II treatment essence with cosrx 95 galactomyces whitening power bcs both have the same ingredients and have the same result

    i think a lot of people here are missing the point... ingrid is talking about HER routine, doesn't mean you "have to" buy the same products. it is just to give you some ideas of things you maybe don't think to do, like a facial scrub, or lip scrub, primer, stuff like that... but you can have the same sort of products with a smaller budget. and i really like th fact that Ingrid is honest with the products she uses. thank you ingrid!

    So glad you read your comments and listen! After I went makeup free for thirty days I commented on a lot of people's videos (who I adored like AnnaEdit, you, etc) for a video on being makeup free. It's really encouraging to see other people confident in themselves in a time and age where we are told not to. Being makeup free taught me so many things and I now typically wear makeup very seldom when I used to wear it every time I went out of the house. It's freeing and it has completely changed my skin for the better. My skin thoroughly thanks me for it every day too!

It would be so cool if you did more of these minimalist makeup videos for the girls out there like me who don't feel comfortable hiding underneath a whole bunch of makeup, but using makeup as a tool to let the person underneath shine through. I mean, she is still making $$ money $$ from these videos so she has to promote certain products, which does suck. we don't need to buy all these expensive products - natural skincare is where it's at! I wasted so much money in previous years falling into the trap of buying expensive products that beauty gurus were talking about and it did NOTHING for my skin. diet, exercise, researching your skin and what causes breakouts, using natural products, etc. will get you results more than anything.

      Simply follow her steps- pick an exfoliant from the drugstore. Pick a moisturizer from the drugstore. Pick a eyebrow gel from the drugstore. Skincare is different for EVERYONE, try things in your budget and find what will work for you. This video isn't saying "buy the things I like and you'll feel good".

      Danja There are some mid range brands like Mario Badescu or The Body Shop that have some nice skin care products. I admit that I've only used cleansers from these brands but so far they've been great. You can also ask for some samples at Sephora and try out products first before investing in them. Macy's also has gifts with purchases sometimes like Estée Lauder where you have to buy a product of at least $38-40 (i think) but you get a lot of mini freebies (that last for a while) like face serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and makeup! :)

    • @alexandraprytkova387
      @alexandraprytkova387 7 років тому +5

      I stopped wearing makeup (aside from mascara and under-eye concealer on really "bad" days) over 5 years ago. You don't need Shiseido eye cream and SK-II serums to have a nice skin. It's nice to have expensive creams and such, cause they feel nicer on the skin and can be a bit more effective, but they aren't the only solution. Personally, what I find has helped is 1) not wearing anything that covers my skin - primers, foundations, powders. Those things regardless of their price will make me break out. 2) apply moisturiser diligently every night and every morning, despite having oily skin (avoid moisturisers specified for oily skin, most of the time they just dry your skin out and make you even more oily/make you break out more). 3) cleanse only in the evening and with cold water (warm/hot water washes the oils off your skin and makes it produce even more oil) + (in the morning I just wash my face with cold water without any product and wipe it with a cotton pad doused in toner). These three steps have literally made my skin so much better. The moisturiser I buy, costs under 2 $ (mind you it's a Russian brand). I buy my toner at Lush, cause I like how they feel. I use Coalface from Lush as a cleanser in the evening. That is all I use and I have no more than 2 pimples a month, during my menses. It took me a couple of years to get there, trying different stuff and figuring out what worked for me. But it is possible to have nice skin on a budget.

    • @kyeoptawerk93ah
      @kyeoptawerk93ah 7 років тому +4

      dont feel bad about not affording it! I'm sure you can look up some dupes or alternatives in a price range you can afford. you can use cheaper stuff and then save up for a splurge skincare item once in awhile too. i honestly use a cleanser that was $5 and then bought stuff from the ordinary (the stuff i got from there is like $6-$12) and my morning moisturizer is about $10ish. plus i use witch hazel as a toner mixed with a little essential oil. i hear awesome stuff about shiseido, tatcha, and skII but i cant drop that sort of cash either. this might be a lot of work but if you really wanted to and had the time, you could look at ingredients in these products and try to find them in less expensive products (too much work for me but it's an option).

      I completely agree, a video like this on a budget would be such a good idea! it's great that has enough money to buy all these products but in reality most people watching will not be able to afford it. There is still a lot of great products out there that are more affordable so don't feel bad. i always use drug store products and my skin is clear. You definitely don't need to spend this much money!

    This video really goes along with cassandra bankson's newest video I just watched. I really like the encouragement to not have the obligation to wear makeup everyday. Once my skin clears up a bit I can finally go with more makeup free days! Thank you :)

    Over the last two years I've gotten better with going outside with no make-up, and it is largely thanks to a better skincare routine. Your videos have taught me so much about caring about my skin and it is really making a difference. I agree with you that it really helps when my hair is styled. It makes me look a bit more put together which gives me more confidence. I love curling my hair but I travel a lot and don't want to bring my straightener and a curler, but I cannot figure out how to curl with a straightener. Especially at the back of my head. I love your "How I Style My Hair" video, but it doesn't really show the back of your hair. Do you have any tips for styling the back? Thanks Ingrid!

    i wear makeup prob once a week and when i do, i only put concealer, and brush my eyebrows. I love how my skin has improved, how little money i've spent on makeup, and how little time i need to get ready... so awesome

      The Kiehl's Dark Spot Corrector didn't really work for me! I use a prescription retin-A which really works well :) They also sell retinoids that are available over the counter, so look into that!

    I haven't been wearing make up now more then ever. I would walk out the house to go to work and my Dad would say, "no makeup today huh?" And I would just ignore him and say "bye." It honestly feels good, not to go to work with makeup on!

    I've actually found that simple ivory soap, a natural make up remover/face cleanser and simple Vaseline face lotion are my perfect routine. Anything else (even "good" cleansers from sephora) gives me acne (the only acne I get now is hormonal) and just irritates my skin. Even make up remover wipes. The cloths are always too rough. The only other products I use ade from Lush and I think it works because it's natural. I must just have super sensitive skin but I'm so glad I went back to my basics, even though it's not as beauty guru. Not to say anything against Ingrid's routine, find what works for you!

    people saying stuff about the products she is using need to shut up. it's her routine. it's products catered to HER skin and HER skin type. it is catered to HER. find products catered towards YOU. ones that YOU can afford and that are good for YOUR skin type. end of rant.

    I have been trying to find a way to get my lashes to curl better and something I have been doing for a while now is to curl my lashes both day and night. In the long term it actually made my lashes stay curly for a longer time. I would definitely recommend this tip.

    Nice video! Personally, I really, really love makeup. The weirder, the better.
    But you're right, skin wise. I hardly wear makeup day-to-day, and only on functions or special days I wear it. I just add a splash of color and go!
