I knew this system worked when people that were trapped in those crazy wild fires in Cali and they can still breath just fine without issues. I installed a hepa filter in my normal car it does make a huge difference

most people affected by Cali wild fires dont drive Teslas , because of the lack of charge stations and other installations in rural areas. They drive gas powered pickups, which are more convenient for farm work etc too

High school Biology 1: Every Virus must have a delivery agent (otherwise they dry out and are destroyed). In this case, it is water or bodily fluids. HEPA filters dry up the water droplets before they make it into your air, so yes it will stop COVID-19.
The big deal is positive cabin pressure keeping out contaminated air that could bypass the filter.

Not all..... the Covid-19 virus is truly airborne and does not need droplet vector to spread. That is how it passes through all masks except for military grade respirator suits.

Also Tesla can make a bioweapon filter work in their cars but they can't make the doors align properly, or fix their panel gaps issues, or solve the reliability issues that plague the brand?

I know these work when there was the historic wildfires happening in california and Elon Musk offered free use of a fleet of Model X’s to the firefighters and rescuers so that way they could rescue people. There’s no engine and no air intake to get clogged by black blankets of smoke and soot, also the BIO mode still provided some of the freshest air possible to the first responders and those they rescued. Sure, Elon is a polarizing person, but he certainly deserves the credit for helping in situations like that. I didn’t see Ford, GM, Toyota, etc offer to help. Just Tesla…

It's $269 and its recommended to replace it every 3 years. Considering that you don't have to pay for oil changes and other maintenance that gas cars have, and since the cost of charging is much lower than gas, it's really not a huge deal in my opinion. And in my experience with the model x, it really does make a big difference. The car literally never smells like last night's take out lol

The elephant in the room that nobody is addressing is the affect of Tesla filters on car exhaust. Obviously, car pollution is the major concern everyone has about cabin air quality. But no one is asking about that. CO2, CO, NO2, Ozone...not just PM2.5....these are critical to human health and HEPA filters do NOTHING to filter car exhaust & pollution. Only carbon does that, and you need a LOT of carbon to make any difference -- as in 15, 20, 25 pounds of the stuff. We need to demand that of TESLA. If anyone can make their cabins truly safe for everyone, they can.

I like the show but wish you would have talked to an industrial hygienist before making this video. HEPA filters are rated at 0.3 microns because that is the particle size that is most difficult to filter. Smaller particles and larger particles are all filtered better than 0.3 micron particles. They filter viruses just fine. Look at the efficiency graph on Wikipedia. The idea behind the mode is fine and would work in any car with a HEPA cabin filter.

E C a) the door gap is not that big :) b) positive air pressure force the car to bleed air to the outside and no outside air can come in to the car except through the filter.

Panel gaps dont signify a bad seal

Filter, hmm shouldn't Tesla fix all the panel gaps, and so on, as the virus will get thru

Panel gaps dont actually mean a bad seal into the cabin, its mainly just cosmetic.

@@cstwister say that to my mate, who wasted 100k AUD on a model 3, and it leaked water on its first rainy day out, left in a car park, it was drenched, now fighting Tesla, for a fix..

mixalis I live in the US so the starting price is 35k USD, I paid 56k after tax. If water is leaking it means it wasn’t sealed properly and I personally haven’t read an article saying tesla was refusing to fix it although I did see one person post about it from China. Again, it means it wasn’t sealed properly (under the glass and with rubber seals), not that the panel gap was too big.
Edit: your friend definitely has the right to be upset and should contact tesla to get it fixed ASAP but again, it’s due to a bad seal not a big panel gap

That's why it uses positive air pressure

HEPA filtration through a SLAB-type filter is haphazard AT BEST. Most ACTUAL bio-isolation systems use a CYLINDRICAL filter with antimicrobial surfaces and gaskets, NEITHER of which occur in the Tesla.
Also, in order to create an ACTUAL isolation area from biohazard, the airflow has to be UVed, and travel through a liquid particulate trap. So the ONLY thing Tesla got right, was the positive overpressure. But the source air would still be highly contaminated, and your lungs would actually be getting force fed this air. So, once again, fail on Tesla.
