They say this generation is a failure, but forget who raised it...
Mr. Agario they the cause to our ill effect
Such honesty
They're just gonna die in ~10 years lol
Mr. Agario Why is your name agario?
And shall we blame who raised them as well?
why don't people ever address the fact that the education system is broken?
Yeah. I know what I want to do and I know everything I need to know. I am 13 and am interested in making music. I have a program to make music but the school isn't teaching me how to use it, people on the internet are. How do I sing? How do I rap? How do I do screamo without busting my vocal chords? All of these things are things I learn myself, the school doesn't teach me shit on how to do this. Even in choir for school, I didn't learn how to sing. The most I learned from choir is to open my mouth and that I have a high voice making me a tenor 1. School is shit when you are focused on something that can make you money, because once you find your passion school starts bringing you down. I wanna stay home and make music, not stay at school and spend 7 hours where the only fun part are the friends you make. I don't even have many friends at school. Almost everyone at my school are fucking retards and share no interests that I do. Before I moved to where I am now, there was a large group for nerds, athletic people, outcasts, just every side of the spectrum. Here, everyone is so similar and thinks that vaping is cool and not bad for you. I hate it here and I might become a drug addict because of the type of people around. Just know though, if I do EVER take drugs like weed or cocaine, I will try to overdose as soon as I can.
@@ivanvenne yeah i had the same problem in highschool, i wanted to learn to programm and litterally 0 subjects were related to it. Now i am studying application development. and i am soooooo much more motivated then before. Its especially hard for people like me who suffer from ADD and other things on the spectrum.
People want us to take stupid pills that make you numb but it held me back for so long i am so much more happier without them.
That and parents but It's Your life.
Why are young people depressed ? There is too much technology in the form of mobile phones and computers, people are bombarded by information, it's Information overload, much of it trivial information too, mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc etc, social media. Peoples brains are not switching off, their brains are over stimulated and its making them exhausted and anxious.
Young people in general, kids, arent doing the things they were in the 80s. like climbing trees, making huts, staying out all day with their friends, instead that are anxious as they look for 'likes' on social media and play computer games, ok so not all kids, but many are so it seems. People are bored too because they have seen it all online instead of going out there and making their own experiences.and memories, they become jaded at a young age and are depreived from teh real life experiences of being young, like bike riding and stuff people did in the past
Barking Frog from kekistan I agree with this . They should take a lot of this stupid shit they teach out of school and teach kids useful shit like trades and life skills . Real life shit .
Don’t forget about the rising percentage of fatherless children. It really impacts the children’s mental health
Male and female identities have been in flux over these generations. In the 40s, society expected men to be able to endure war, so empathy skills were not part of a common picture of masculinity. The baby boomer boys were brought up not to cry or express emotions. They were directed to work hard and given the opportunities to see rewards for this - buying a house, good pensions, retirement from 60, enough money to pay for a family. Women still expected to give up work when they got married and focus on the home and family in the 70s. Children did not have rights until the late 90s.
Things have changed completely for everyone. In some ways for the best. In some ways not so good.
To be healthy you need both a mother and a father. That's my take. Or if you have two moms or something one of them needs to act as a father figure of sorts. But women don't know how to behave like men, just as men don't know how to behave like women.
and more likely than not, make them join the furry empire
It's that goddamn dream mcyt
Because they are Toxic players and their dad went to get some milk.
When the outside world is getting uglier by the day, people start looking inward.

Older Generations complaining about millennials but they forgot to look at who raised a lot of them.
Daniel Van Then they are quick to blame us for everything.

@@knowyourteeth1292 I feel the same way as him, it's a completely different feeling having a girlfriend compared to just normal friends.
I'm looking for friends and a girlfriend, have been for a while, there is nobody that is interested in going out and doing anything anymore. It truly sucks
@@garyyoung5080 well i always wanted a girlfriend and still kinda do, but it gets easier when u just stop thinking about it, time will tell eventually
I think basically this generation is
depressing because everything comes down to COMPETITION.. who has the best job, car, body, looks, boyfriend /girlfriend ,phone etc.. and the list goes on! Instead of focusing on their own journey... they let the media affect them and and puts pressure on them.
As you get older you don't care about what anyone else thinks.
Nah, competition has always been around. You have to remember that what we are really competing for is a mate. All of those things you list that we compete with are all about attracting the best mate (or mates) possible. This competition has been around since caveman times. Don't worry though--there is hope! The older you get, the less you will care about much of this competition.
I'd argue that it was at least partially a LACK of competition, specifically when it didn't really matter. The "everybody is a winner" thing that started sometime in the mid 90's.
When I was a kid, if you or your team won a sporting event, got a trophy or medal, then you went out for pizza and maybe ice cream, and if you didn't win, NO TROPHY. Also, probably no pizza, though you might sneak some ice cream as comfort food. Winning or losing these things had zero impact on your standard of living or your chances of getting a job, you're a kid. And even though you lost the race/baseball game/or who can swallow more goldfish on Saturday, you got a B+ (which used to be 94%-95%) on the test in Geography on Tuesday, so it's not like you're worthless.
When you grow up, though, it's ingrained in you that you might win if you do better than the other person (at work or where ever) or you might lose if you do worse, both are possible and more importantly fair. But even though Johnson got the promotion and you didn't, he's still going bald, so HAH! Plus, you can go get yourself some pizza and ice cream if you really want it, you're an adult.
@@daverussell457 Just remembered an Erma Bombeck quote (paraphrased, I may have misremembered the exact wording):
"When I was very young, I used to worry all the time what other people thought about me. When I got older, I stopped caring what other people thought about me. Now that I'm older than that, I realize no one was actually thinking about me in the first place."
Comparison is the thief of joy, Wise Man say.
Why does anybody want to be a celebrity I'd rather be rich and relivly unknown and live my life in peace.
I wouldn't even want to be rich. I would like to just be doing well.. like 100k a year. Enough that I could indulge every once in a while but not big enough to get any attention.
me too just a happy life with a happy family
same! what's with all these people wanting paparazzi? If I'm gonna be famous, it's for what I love to do. I don't even need to be famous, Just give me a New York Times Bestseller once and I would be happy
once you are rich, you'll crave for those fame you so ignorantly think you don't want.
Easy non-stress job + wealth. Or just the wealth. Tis the dream

My father always said: "If you want to know somebody, you just need to get to know his parents"
As in, if somebody is a failure in life, looser, stupid, or incompetent, it's still his fault, but the parents still hold most of the blame...

People do not understand depression.
"I'm so sad and angry. I'm depressed"
That's not how it feels. It feels like you've experienced everything, and you have become utterly empty inside. It's not caring about anyone or anything, but at the same time caring too much about other people's feelings so you would never hurt them intentionally. It's hearing people laugh behind you and believing it's because they're laughing at you, but you also know it's not that. It's getting annoyed because you're always so damn empty and anxious. There's nothing that triggers these thoughts, you just have them all the time and there's nothing you can do to get rid of it. Medication only makes it worse and therapists keep telling you the same thing but that doesn't help. It's savouring every fucking moment where you're feeling something positive and never taking it for granted but having it taken away from you too fast.
*thats what depression feels like to me*
this seems awfully specific....
stop caring what other people think, assume they don't care either. move on build yourself, do things that build up endorphins. watch the movie 300 then be Spartan. take the advice saved and changed your life right there.
So you're telling me I'm depressed huh... :/
Illuminati Telal Giving stupid advice like that is what makes people who suffer from depression kill themselves, and you idiots don't even realize how dangerous what you say is. It makes people go from doubting whether anyone understands how they feel to KNOWING that nobody knows how they feel...which is the worst feeling ever, knowing that whatever you do, it will be bad.
D-Slice So by this logic I must be depressed. :(
Millennials cant afford tô bê adults só they are stuck in thier teens forever

“We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.”
-- Fight Club
I think it’s quite different from reality. You could be any of those things, but other generations thought they’d be them if they worked hard and smart enough.
Millenials and Gen z thought they would just deserve it
@@schroederscurrentevents3844 As a Gen Z its more of a disenfranchisement with reality. I agree that there clearly is some entitlement, with the ideas of justice, equality and fairness. Millennials and Gen Z are told that everyone is equal, that your special, that no one is above another, that failure is simply the result of not working hard enough, while simply participating is awarded.
Social Media disenfranchised Gen Z and Millennials. It showed our generations, the failure of past generations, the ignorance of select groups (anti-vaxxers, flat-earthers), and that climate change and consumerism built by the previous generations is going to kill us all in 60 years or so.
The idea that we are all fame seekers, was probably created by census taken from the hubs of social media, and validation hunting. Those who frequent those sites being the type who are looking to get known.
Every generation seems to think the next is entitled, considering how fast society is changing and is "improving", it seems reasonable, the world is more accessible , travel is easier than ever, and answers at our finger tips. Don't forget who raised every next generation.
The worlds changing, the wealth gaps are widening, and its treated as if its the same gap, that it needs the same amount of success to jump the gap.
I'm wondering what's the plan to fix any of this?

We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. Sadly enough, wars and catastrophes give us a reason to make the world a better place. Right now, we're running out of reasons and thus happiness and satisfaction.

:(
Nulibrium ah... y'all are falling for the broken window fallacy. Although war does usually show for an economic peak, it almost always causes a depression to follow. War does not solve problems. Although people band together to shift from a consumer economy to a militia one, all of that work could have been put into making consumer goods in a non war time. (Just learned about this in my Econ class lol)
I'm a so called 'boomer' and I love your channel. You're a good critical thinker and not tied to this BS generational stereotyping. Good work man, keep it up. I've made a career of doing as little work as possible. Life's too short to waste it making someone else rich.
Narcissistic???
I get a panic attack if i look someone in the eyes lol
I don't even talk to people in public
Technically, there's a secondary form of Narcissism that's classified with the obsession to be the absolute WORST person ever. They deny all compliments and are just as selfish and immoral as the other narcissists are. They have no sense of empathy and would rather focus on how terrible they are.
It should be noted that I am talking about the actual personality disorder (not the typical "selfish person"), so these symptoms are basically irreversible.

I am a final year baby boomer. 1964. I work with some young people who fit the gen Y category. Some of them are brats, but most quickly learn they have to work hard to get by and end up being amazing workers. Lol. I did know this one young guy who was perplexed as to why only managers could apply for a particular position at my workplace. And he was going to apply for the position. After all of us laughed at the idea, he applied. Then he was confused as to why a 19 year old kid with no life experience or leadership training was flat out rejected for the position. After all his older brother was put into a management position straight out of school. His brother works for a very small company only employing about 5 people. Unlike the company I work for that employs thirty thousand+ employees across the country. But I figure, well done for at least trying. But he quickly learnt that participation awards aren't given to people at workplaces.
Spectacular!!!! Please keep doing great work.

At 27, my depression is mostly money related. To sum it up, I work to afford my meds, that allow me to work. I live with family cause I can't afford anything else. I can't take the risk of moving, cause if I can't get my meds I barley function. Have tried looking for places that offer insurance, but no luck. It feels meaningless trying most days. I agree. The award I got when on a team was the comraderie, the self worth that felt wonderful because I was part of a team. My not getting an award or metal drove me to try harder. I kind of feel like part of the issue we have in society is the loss of people wanting to be better people.

* A Bachelor's degree is now the minimum expectation for any job with a livable wage, and will cost us triple what your education cost you. Total student loan debt is higher than it's ever been.
* Real wages haven't grown significantly in decades, while the price of living skyrockets.
* We had to enter the job market in the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.
* There is a very real possibility that unrestricted exploitation of the environment will cause irreparable climate damage during our lifetime. Ultimately, the responsibility is going to fall on us (and our wallets) to fix this.
* Jobs are disappearing as more basic tasks become automated, with no clear replacement for them.
* Generally terrible/incompetent government on the national level. Disastrous wars, bad foreign policy, lack of clear leadership/direction, lack of bipartisan cooperation, corruption, increased social strife on many levels that hasn't been this bad in some time... and so on.

@@MysticalStd That's a fallacy. The more people you have the more you need of those to be of certain professions, not all of which actually require a college degree, but many which do (whether by the market or by law). When you have a greater demand of individuals with college degrees (esp. certain ones), those degrees are more valuable. But that's by no means the only thing that dictates their value. College degrees can be _'worthless'_ for other reasons, too. But, you know what's also a fallacy? That you have to have a college degree to do well. We need trade schools. Unfortunately, kids today don't wanna do anything like that. They just want to sit at home on their phone or video games (when they're not at the club or getting into stuff they shouldn't be getting into) and complain about everything that's wrong in their lives, while blaming any and every one but themselves, and feeling that everyone else owes them something, that being whatever they feel 'entitled' to, which is basically whatever they want.

Oh yes, we're depressed because of our phones.. And there definitely aren't any other reasons.
What he's saying is that the technology has conditioned our minds to expect instant gratification instead of putting enough work in it to get what you want. It applies to building relationships, getting promoted, building a business, and so on.
There are other, additional reasons, but this is one. Another is work load, teachers for example, they have to do a lot more than ''just teach'' which is skill on its own, but some schools, especially elementary schools have become a day care too. Next to teaching to a class of 30 students, which is not easy at all, they sometimes have to give students morale standards because the parents often have no time. Why do you think that any teachers have a burnout within a few years of graduating?
Like I said is that technology is just one of the many reasons why youth is depressed
TheFlyingTurtle I dont know what country you live in, where teachers bully you, but here in my country, I am doing a study to become a teacher and we are taught on the cognitive process of learning, From the Behaviorsm of the Black Skinner Box to the Cognitive Load Theory of Sweller.
All combined we are taught how students learn, how we can optimize their learning process. It basically impossible for a teacher to teach 30 students equally. However, we are also taught 9 key elements to becoming a teacher. Including pedagogical skills, making a safe learning space, and the skills to properly reinforce desired behaviour.
Trust me, not all teachers are the gems here, I've seen a lot of teachers from the X generation to complain about students, but most teachers who originates from the Y generation are like me.
Gaming Otaku watch the full video before complaining, you are a part of the problem
It's the latest layer of shit on top of the reasons why people get depressed. For example, the generation before introduced kindergardens (mass-production of daily maternal abandonment for everyone), which is another major layer of shit that created depressed people (generally unhappier people, even if some are not totally depressed).
I think another reason us youths have more mental health issues is because we feel more stressed. Not necessarily because he have more stressful lives than our parents or grandparents, but because when they got it they were told to just deal with it and soldier through it and when we get it we're told we should get help for it, which leaves us even more stressed.
Plus everything is easier now. Want some food? You can buy a whole meal for three bucks, throw it in the microwave and be eating inside five minutes. Need to find out how to do something? Google it, and in five seconds you'll have your answer. We have easier lives for the most part, so we get bored easier, which leads to more checking Facebook or whatever, which leads to stress and depression when we don't get our 'fix.'
I don't even remember when I didn't have google maps to tell me where to go. I thought I was generation X :(

nah, we just got use to having everything spoon fed to us.
Tripping Pug I agree, my cousin is still in school and the teachers help with everything and say all the solutions while for me the teachers only say what we're going to learn for the day and we had to learn from scratch

Funny, I grew up being told that I needed a college degree to get a good job. I spent yeas in college and got out only to discover no one was hiring. So many companies advertise jobs because they're required to by law. But you'll never get that job even if you nail the interview and the resume. That job has already been given to someone else in the company. I'd LOVE to find a job where I can work for 20 years, but that's an impossibility. No one wants that kind of loyalty anymore. Heck, there's places I've been fired from because it's cheaper to hire overseas. Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. Faster. Faster. Faster. You can't just do a job anymore, you need to do 5 jobs within your job in order to keep it. It's exhausting. I'm not sure where this guy is getting his shit from but even when I was in the military, there was a giant shift in 2003 where military jobs were merged and suddenly you needed to multitask 3 other jobs including your specialization. No one wants a master, they want a multi tool that they can work to the bone for 5 years for peanuts then discard. There is no "work hard and you can do it!" We get, "Work hard and you MAY get to keep your heat on this month". THAT is why this generation is depressed. We were brought up and fed giant spoonfuls of lies that worked for our parent's generation but do not work at all in today's world. We're now so deep into debt because that good old promise of "pay now, get it back later" for college turned out to not only be a lie, but has now made us unemployable.
this is very true in the case of fast food or register jobs or ever changing jobs like oil field , but become your own store manager or try focusing on a field like a Doctor or Software Development or even a Enterprise Architect , these fields will reward your hard work. stop trying to do my dirty work for me so to speak and do it for yourself and you'll find that you will go up and not be shut down by the big bad boss!
That happened to my niece too, she spent four years getting one of those "Starbucks Degrees!"

Our generation, the millennials, is quite shitty. However those baby boomers are not out of any blame either. They were born in a time in which everything was easier, simpler, economy was developing, industries were booming, no fortune costing education bullshit was necessary to get a good job, the cost of living was a LOT lower, and much more. So they took it, they took it all, enjoyed it used and abused while it lasted. And left their bill for us to pay.
yup, we have a big ass bill to pay.

I can pick up any phone or go to any computer and find ANY information about ANYTHING in the world at ANY TIME. People like Thoughty2 have lucrative careers making 15 minute videos. most of whom are not anywhere near as talented as Thought2, and they're raking in millions. I can make a living from home, in my pajamas if I choose, selling things online; I can buy and sell stocks, be a broker and never even meet a customer face to face. I can order food from almost any restaurant and some teenager will deliver it for free in 30 minutes or less. My refrigerator will tell me when it's time to buy milk. My watch has more computing power than the entire Apollo 11 project. It is unfortunate that education in The US has become a racket, but there is way more opportunity for Gen X and Millennials than there ever was in any other generation. Life now may be more complicated, but Baby Boomers most certainly did not have it EASY.

I did speech about this in college, explaining how social media makes people depressed because of how people are constantly comparing themselves to others who live a 'perfect' life on social media. Ironically, the class took it as having a "negative mind-set on life" and that I was the one depressed.. It was baffling.

Typos af*
I don't know if phones and social media are the true cause of depression in millennials and Gen Z's - I've met plenty including myself who have gone through depression who don't use facebook,/Instagram/Twitter/etc. Regularly. And in my case, sure I use UA-cam a lot and play a lot of video games, but I'd argue that binging on these things is a result of the depression, not the cause.
In analyzing my depression and my own life, it really seems to be more of a product of expectations than anything else. Back in the 50's -70's it was completely okay for someone to work in a factory, get married, have kids, retire, and pass on. That was considered a good and valuable life. Nowadays, we're instilled with the idea that we can and should change the world, and not doing so is a waste of our time here on Earth. By the school system, by our parents, by the media, and by our religious leaders and other mentors, time and time again we're told to maximize our talents, to take advantage of every opportunity, to get straight A's and get into the most prestigious college, and on and on and on.
Unfortunately, depression tends to be the result of frustration from unmet expectations. So it's really no wonder so many of us are depressed. We're all expected to get good grades, to get a wonderful job, to make a difference in the world, to take advantage of every opportunity, to maximize our talents - how is any normal person supposed to do all of that?
We're all depressed because we're all told at a young age that we can make a difference and be extremely successful, and when we inevitably see that we are not making a difference and are not extremely successful, we do not live up to our own expectations put in our minds from childhood, and feel as if even trying is pointless and we might as well just give up.
100% agreed.
I believe most millenials are taught they are special and more than just a part of a bigger community, but in reality we are just a part of something bigger that ourselves. The people who change the world are made examples for the billion others and the bar is just too high. That amount of success is reached naturally by the individual's own means, not by others telling them to do so.
100% agree
Not only that but it was way easier to get a job back then. A lot harder today and a house, car costs a fortune it was a cheaper back then
The solution is to not care in the slightest what everyone expects of you. The solution of course comes with other problems but I find it to be a valuable strategy lol.
Can't agree more ,that expectations had me depressing for real

I don't have a smartphone, I suffer from inferiority complex, my parents always told me that I needed to be better. Still depressed, thoughty2. I don't think it's something nearly as simple as "experts" are saying.
Lucas Sze If you're trying to justify yourself then you're no different, you are a minority and only one person. It makes no difference.
But I'm not an exception. I live in Silicon Valley, full of hardcore asian and indian parents who are constantly pressuring their kids to do better and work harder and get straight A's. It's pretty common to take AP Calculus and AP Physics 1 in sophomore year.
Most kids don't even have snapchat or instagram, aside from a few jocks and cheerleaders that everyone hates.
I don't see a reason why I should believe anything you say-You can't prove it, and you don't entirely know that everyone there is like you. You cannot know everyone from there unless it's such a small town/place, and you still ARE a minority, even if there are a few other people like you. The majority of youth is like this and experts are way more qualified than you are. You're not special just because your different.
Kristen Dude, no need to be disrespectful.
Yoyo dude, there's no need for me not to be disrespectful. I simply stated my opinion, if he cannot deal with it then it's his own problem.
Millenials at least in America spent our entire lives being told this country is an amazing place where you can work hard and make your dreams come true, and then we graduated into the Great Recession. When we turn around and tell the generation that raised us "Hey this isn't the world you told us we lived in. This is horse shit, it needs to change" we are call self-entitled ingrates.
Couple that with the "lucky ones" who enter college straight out of high school, watch the problems in our world from the outside from the comfort of their dorm room and proceed to blame straight white men for everything. Nobody will ever take my generation seriously and we're fucked 6 ways from Sunday. No shit I'm depressed.

Fuck that shit, were born into a dying fucked up world ima just make sure I get mine but y’all can do what y’all want just stay out my way
The rhetoric sounds a lot like that of Gen X (my generation) after the crash of 87.
College is a huge scam the new generation is getting their whole life scamed
Thumbs up, but the self-entitlement reproach is not for that, though. It's for the impatience for recognition and the demanding rewards before the effort or achievements. It's for the SJW attitude, that their opinion is more important than anyone elses. It's for the expectation that the world should cater to every whim you may have... If you're not falling in any of those categories, then nobody is calling you self-entitled =)
8:42 I like how she's casually holding the phone upside down
I think it could also be that there were also many depressed people before, they were just scared to admit it and seek help, but since mental health care is getting normalized there are more people who admit it
I don't think that there's anything wrong with phones but some of the apps people use on their phones are totally pointless and are damaging people.

Elementary point, but yes. It's a generalisation as most people with smartphones don't only use them as a basic communications device.
Phones aren't the problem, it is how we use them.
MissFoxification yeah
Millenials: *most depressed generation*
Gen Z: Hold my beer
First off, they're not
Second off, that sounds like some mindless person staring at their phone
Just goes to show that you're wrong
I see an intelligence increase amongst Gen Z and even the 25 and under age group happening. Of course, every generation is laden with a supply of idiots and they are no different. They have a lot of crap to mire through left by the preceding generations but in their young developing minds they see the full blown narcissism for what it is and are questioning it. This should give us all hope. The problem I see though, is many of them are becoming depressed because of it, which is understandable but I believe in time this will pass. They feel the negative effects that surround the millennials just as much.
One good thing about the incredibly stupid is they serve as an example, a warning and an inspiration to improve upon. I think Zer's will impress as time goes on. I also think a chunk of millennials will follow suit because a good portion of them are highly critical and questioning of the slowly eroding boomer norm that is now and know it's only a matter of time before the ball drops squarely in their court, along with Z. Everything is in a transitional state right now and will continue to be. We just have to be cautious of what we're transitioning into. That's what real progress looks like and it's not restricted to a political ideology or anything else, it's inspired by the human spirit. Gen Z is realizing that individuality transcends stupid labels and political views.
-T-X-M- i think a lot of wrong expectations and hopes that are implanted in millenial can also be found in generation z. So it should be similar.
Quick question, generation Z is the newest generation right? Is it between 1999 and somewhere in the 2000s?
