Love the video, man! I actually went to DC Comics back in 1997, and showed Joe Orlando my work--my inking work in particular. He gave me the greatest of compliments: "You're inking really reminds me of Wood's inks! It's very slick!" I told him that I was a huge fan of Wallace Wood's work, and I loved EC Comics. He seemed legit flattered to talk to someone my age who loved EC so much. Unfortunately, Joe had no work to give to me, as the industry had just imploded earlier in 1996. 20 year veterans in the business were suddenly out of work, but he told me that if he had the work to give, I'd have made the grade. I was disappointed not to get any work that day, naturally. As an EC fan though, receiving compliments from the great Joe Orlando made my entire day! It was difficult to be too dejected having had the opportunity to talk to Orlando, and to have him say nice things about my work. Just about a year later, I heard that Joe had passed on. I'll never forget meeting him. I feel so very fortunate, Thommy. RIP, Joe.
@@ecfan-addict9477 Thank you! It certainly is something that I'll treasure! There was just something about Wally Wood's work that struck a cord with me when I was a teenager. Not just the realism, but also the way he told a story grabbed me too. When I looked at a Woody story, it was like watching a '50s sci-fi film--one of the good ones, like FORBIDDEN PLANET, WAR OF THE WORLDS, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD or THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. I could feel the hair on the back of my neck tingle from the excitement I felt reading WEIRD SCIENCE! There wasn't anything else like it in comicdom. All of the EC Horror titles had a similar effect, but man, did I love the science fiction stuff, and Woody, and Williamson always delivered the best work. I can never seem to get enough of these two artists, even today. Joe's work was great too--EC didn't have a single artist that wasn't amazing, but Wally Wood...MAN!

Got a question -- Do you know if Orlando ever did his own lettering for the splash page titles of his own stories? In some instances, such as "Revulsion!" (seen at the 2:40 mark here) the lettering looks different from anything I've seen on other EC artists' work.
It's a great question and I don't know the answer for certain - the way some of the titles are integrated into the splash panels I would imagine that the answer is yes. Wood certainly did a lot of his own title lettering so it wouldn't surprise me...

And I know I may sound like I'm harping on this- as I asked this before- but, do you know what the deal is w/the TPB release of the "EC ARCHIVES: TALES FROM THE CRYPT" V.3? I missed the boat on collecting the HC releases, & so I've been collecting my favorite titles in TPB format. The order they(Dark Horse) started releasing them(the 3 main horrir titles, anyway) began w/"TFTC" V.1, followed by "VAULT OF HORROR," V.1, & then, "HAUNT OF FEAR" V.1. So, given the rotation of the 3 main horror titles- which was kept for the V.2s of each title- "TFTC" V.3 should be next in line. But everwhere I've looked- from Amazon to Barnes & Noble- the only release date I can find for V.3 is March 19, 2024! The "VOH" V.3 TPB is set to release soon, but it should come after "TFTC" V.3. There's a HC release for V.3 of "TFTC" that was recently released, I believe. But for my collection to be the way I want it to be on my shelf, it needs to be in TPB format. What's really strange is that Amazon is stating that the "TFTC" V.4 TPB is scheduled for release on November 14th of this year! It appears that they are just skipping V.3 for some reason, & going straight into the V.3s for "VOH" & "HOF" first. I don't know what to make of it, lol. I know you're the guy to talk to, & I really hope I'm not harping or nagging you w/this question, having asked you once before. But the person who read my other comment asking you about it told me that it would be released this year; but from everything I've been reading it will not be released until March of next year(I think he/she must have been referring to the HC version). No! As with all volumes in the series the title comes from the title of one of the stories in the volume. After The Bitter End will be Kamen's Kalamity and Other Stories by Jack Kamen, followed by a yet-to-be-titled Wood collection.

Happy to see Joe Orlando get his due. He did fantastic work but sometimes seems like one of the forgotten men when it comes to EC's bullpen.
He would have been a superstar at any other company, but EC had such a wealth of genius - I'm sure it made it tough to stand out!
