Hate to be that person but this video was useless . Don’t try to do this out in the field guys . This won’t make you a welder out there . There’s a reason why they didn’t show the root . That guy holding wire for what ? He didn’t use it ? Don’t know who to really blame . That instructor or the school that scams people to sign up for it . Go out there as an apprentice. Learn the trade first before thinking of welding . And get paid while doing it instead of wasting money and time .

No gap, no shot of the root even though I'm sure it was broke down, no cap pass? Put the thing in 6g or 5g. That method will fly on sanitary in the field but not sch10.

I have personal done butt jojnts that I had to purge because I was able to put a root from the outside by allowing the weld to sink on the inside of the pipe all the way around the joint and being purged it would not crystalize or get sugared as most people would say hard to do but it’s common in the food industry when it comes to stainless steel pipe plumbing on big units.

That filler rod stayed the same length throughout the entire welding.😢 Why was it far away like ten miles away from torch.
I think this technique and fit up could be used for food grade piping or exhaust pipe. but for gaslines and probably pressure vessels you need about a 1/16-1/8 root penetration

What type of welding is that??? This doesn’t help anyone a 3 yr old can Tig a no gap no root.
It’s for sanitary. No gap because you almost 100% of the time can’t use filler rod (chance of adding trash)

Man that’s the worst welding every at least have a 3/32 gap that would never pass a bend or x ray
I agree on it being the worst weld but not for you mentioned because what you said is irrelevant, reason I say that is because it most deff does not need to be gapped at all. Example all I do is stainless steel tig pipe welding at my job , I do a lot of plumbing for fire truck module units which are used for the water to come threw the pump. Those projects do not get any type of testing in regards to X-Ray, mag particle, UT, etc etc there for standing butt joint is just fine . The pipe that I attached to some flanges will get welding both on the outside and inside of the pipe is sliding threw the center of the flange leaving a 1/4 a 3/8 set back depending upon what the print calls for!
Past 12 years prior to being at this shop for the past year I worked on pipelines shutdowns , turnarounds etc etc as a tig welder on all different types of alloys I am also a combo welder / fabricator : fitter!!!! So I know what I am talking about!
Wanna point out I am not calling you out and saying you are entirely wrong at all because yes if this piece were to be X rayed or UT it would most deff fail for 1 ends not being beveled and not having a proper root or burn threw.
In theory it made no sense for him to purge this pipe since he was not going to root it and at 70 amps we both know he was not getting no push threw to do a burn-threw style root pass he did not even add filler he just fused it together so tech this fails a visual look because as you prob know I am willing to bet that is under filled on that particular joint !!! That’s why I even commented saying “ this is a vid of how not to weld a stainless steel SCH 10 pipe butt joint lmao 🤣

You can shoot xray with square cuts on sch10 its all about amperage and purge pressure in the pipe it will break down the inside and you can root it like that
you dont need gap for 2 mm pipe
It feels like a race when you have 3 test and only 6 hours

Your not even adding any filer deff underfilled on that first pass there is no reason why any should have to run more then one pass. If you did that on a job you would deff be yelled at or talked to about how long it’s taking to weld especially if someone fit the pipe and all you have to do is weld!!!
