Newcastle Trolleybus 501 in action at Sandtoft

  • Newcastle Corporation Transport introduced trolleybus operation in October 1935 to replace the city's trams.
    501 is the only survivor of a batch of 30 Sunbeam S7 three-axle trolleybuses, delivered between 1946 and 1949. Bodywork was by Northern Coach Builders at their Claremont Road works in Newcastle.
    501 is seen in action at the 2008 Sandtoft Gathering, having been on loan to the Museum since July 2005 from The Beamish North of England Open Air Museum.
