It’s good to see young people. Coming from someone who was licensed at 14 years old, I’ve seen very few young operators in my area the last 4 years. More exposure to radio will result to more young operators. Thanks for the video.
Please do more vids with young folks occasionally! Have them actually use some radios. Show them a satellite tracker. A whole new audience. Very refreshing. There IS hope for the future! Thanks Eric!
I just bought one myself a few weeks ago. I love this radio!!! I have set up four hot spots here at home for the radio. A couple are set up for reflectors in the United Kingdom/Wales. DSTAR is fun !!!! I have been a ham since 1990 so I know about the ruggedness of Icom handhelds. I once took a fall onto river rocks with my old Icom 32 AT and it survived without a scratch. I bought it in 1991. It still works perfectly today 32 years later!!! Nice video!!!
I have had the ID52 for a couple months now and man do I love this radio. I use it everyday and it is part of my edc. I dont ever leave home without it.
We desperately need more young people in ham radio as I believe that the hobby has been in decline for a long time. I currently have over ten different GMRS radios but only one ham rig. But back when I was really active in ham radio I was a hard-core Icom man. I'm not above spending big money on a fancy HT if the quality is there so thanks for doing this video. Enjoyed seeing Landon again and hearing his perspective on this too. 😊👍
There are a few that can do the photo thing from your phone. The ID-5100 can provided you have the bluetooth module installed. The IC-9700 can also do it, but only over the network so you have to be on the same wifi. I think there are more but I can't remember exactly. I only own the ID-52 and IC-9700.
I have this radio and had no idea it had that “Near Repeater” function. Thank you Eric. Side note: I purchased my first HF rig (ic-705) a while back using your code and got some cool HRC swag. I drink out of my orange tumbler all the time! Question, until I’m able to purchase a 7100 for my truck, I’ve been thinking about setting up my ID 52 as a mobile radio. Basically just finding a way to mount it and run an external antenna. Thoughts? -73 KG5YMD
I am a little bit new but had my eyes on the 7100 for my truck as well. No longer avail and the used prices seemed to be increasing. I settled on the 5100 and love it. Of course you lose HF but you get a true 50watts on VHF and UHF which beats the 7100. Just lacks the HF. If HF is your gig than disregard.
The one thing I want to know is can this handheld do a split pl we have a repeater here that uses a 107.2 pl to access it however if you only want to hear that repeater you need to have an 88.5 pl on the radio to do that
I would like to be able to talk to some one I don't have any friends I live by myself(?) I want to be able to talk to some one, Please help me to be able to get into this(?) Do I have to have a license for this ? Where do I start first ? I came across your video and I went to subscribed and seen I am already subscribed and thought why haven't I seen any of the other videos and I seen where I didn't have it on all but thought I did, so now I do. I will wait for a reply.

Nice video. Interesting to hear your thoughts on the radio. Wife gave me a ID-52A for my birthday last weekend.
We all love when you have special guests in your videos. Thank you for the great video.
Love this with you grandson Eric. Well done !!

Thumbs up for doing the video with the young fella 👍
Why oh why doesn’t Icom do proper APRS? I would buy 2 today if they did.
Very refreshing review. Great job! Need to get the kids involved. Keep it up!
I own one and love it. My favorite HT by far.

Unfortunately, there is no SW in it. And in yaesu ft5d there is.

Great video, as always. I might get this as my "backup" HT. I already have a Yaesu FT5D, so I would add D-Star to the mix
You can tell hes a smart kid

There really should be a budget DStar radio to compete with the FT-70D.

The 2 meter side of mine went out after like 4 months. Was very disappointed. I really need to get it sent back to Icom
For $ 700.00 me no way
With you((
How would you compare that to the Kenwood D74?
Only if Baofeng could be like that. :-)
😂😂😂😂😂
Have you tried it with the IC-705 battery?
I've heard it's last a really long time with it.

I absolutely don't care what kids think. I'm leaving. I want to hear adults talk intelligently about this radio. Good-bye!
Well, I really don’t care. But, I DO appreciate your comment and feedback. Take care, and 73?
You must be a blast at parties!
Good!!! But is yaesu ft5d worse??
