    This is a well designed modern radio. I am so glad they have an Android/iOS app that lets you download ALL repeaters and then search by GPS. Amazing. Yaesu is still in 90s.

      I passed my technicians exam today! I’m torn between this radio and the yaesu 5tdr.
      We don’t have any d-star repeaters on the Big Island. There are about 5 fushion in the area.
      Which would you recommend?

    Firstly Eric, I also deeply appreciate what you share & so glad that our prayers & support have helped you & your family.
    You have a good heart & it shows in all that you do so please keep going as we're loving the content.
    The ID52 looks like my next ham radio goal lol.
    Pity I can't afford it at the moment as I had saved up for the 705.
    IP7x is also fantastic for those of us also into marine adventures, boating, fishing or kicking back by the seaside on holidays etc.
    Deeply proud of the innovation & direction which Icom is taking their ham radio product range as evidenced by the ID52, 705, 7300, 9700 with design intuitiveness & I'm also seeing their ideas rub off onto other manufacturers.
    Love how Icom is standardising their battery packs across their newer products as it greatly simplifies things when taking these radios portable & for sheer simplicity.
    Fantastic news about the extended frequency receive range & being up to 480MHz means we here in VK can maybe use it in our UHF CB range from 476.425 to 477.400MHz.
    Definitely an air-band enthusiast (thanks Icom for doing this also on 705) & the inclusion of Rx on 250 - 300MHz means we can listen in on unencrypted military aircraft traffic during air shows helping to inspire a whole generation of kids to radio & technology when "Top Gun Maverick" soon gets released in cinemas.
    If Icom could maybe incorporate DMR in a newer IDXX design, I'd honestly would sell my 878!.
    Thanks for sharing & wishing you all the very best!

    I want to like this Radio. I got it last week and hopefully I got a dud and wasn’t in the area that I was in. I wasn’t receiving very many people’s signal. I put it up against my Yaseu ft5d, which was receiving signals from several sources on several stations. I continued to carry around my Icom id52 Even though I wasn’t receiving very much of a signal. I called DX Engineering and they said that they would replaced it for me. I know that’s great and everything and I appreciate the company for doing that. I wish I didn’t have to go through all that to get this top-of-the-line radio. Oh well, I can wait another week for it while I get another one sent out to me.

    When I discovered blueDV I gave up on the harsh robotic audio on radios and now I rarely use a radio for digi modes. Now I can have DMR, D-Star, Fusion on my cell phone, I use the DVMEGA Globetrotter and have a static IP and can connect without a dongle from anywhere.
    I can use it on my windows laptop and Chromebook, on Windows I can monitor DMR, D-star and Fusion at the same time and easily switch from one to the other and easily change channels without having to wait for a gap in transmission. It's extremely simple to use and needs no codeplugs, DMR is shockingly bad and complicated.
    I have the anytone 878 and the openspot 3 and I was able to set it up so I can use DMR, S-Star and Fusion all from the 878, the openspot 3 makes this possible but programming it was insanely complicated.
    A radio still has it's uses but in reality Blue DV is the way forward, it's simple as it should be, Fusion radios are also simple to use but you're still limited to fusion, Blue DV makes it possible to use 3 modes without 3 different radios.
    Once setup properly, your tx, rx audio levels Blue DV sounds amazing, especially through my laptop speakers, I use a surface pro 8 but also an old Samsung S5e Android tablet and it sounds much better than any radio, I also get complements on my TX audio.

    I’m about to buy my first ham radio, and I’m leaning toward the ID-52.

    • @JohnDoe-zg6fn

      This will be my first decent radio. I have had my tech license for a few months now and have only used the baofengs but they are just not cutting it. I have been researching the heck out of all the higher end HT's (Icom, Yaseu, etc) and too be honest they all are a bit confusing, but I finally decided to go with the ID-52a because it is less confusing than the others and the ease of operating it and getting access to repeaters and Dstar is much much easier than with the other radios. But this is what I came up with through much research from a newbie lol. So I just bought this radio on Friday and it should be here tomorrow l.

    • @ndrthrdr1
      @ndrthrdr1 Рік тому +1

      @@JohnDoe-zg6fn I did go ahead and buy the ID52. I have had it for a few months now.
      No regrets.
      One feature that’s turned out to be very useful is the ability to easily record conversations. That way, I don’t forget call signs, names, or locations like I did with the Baofengs. I’m outside when I’m using an HT, so it’s easy to forget things before I’m inside writing them down.

    • @JohnDoe-zg6fn
      @JohnDoe-zg6fn Рік тому

      @@ndrthrdr1 That's awesome. I saw that you could do that, that was another selling point as well as being able to screenshot your screen as well as being able to send and receive pictures is pretty cool and no other ht as far as I save seen can do that. I have been doing a bunch of research on DPRS and DRATS and man it is some really cool stuff. Everybody keeps talking about APRS as if it is the best thing in the world, but I don't think they have fully researched our understanding of what DPRS and DRATS can do with DSTAR. Have you tried using DRATS yet? it is pretty cool stuff. My radio is on the way to me right now and I should be picking it up in a couple hours. Cant wait

      Newb here. So just for the ease of use and the app that comes with this HT was a big selling point t for me. It makes it SOOO much easier to access repeaters wherever I am and save me the time of having to program them all individually in a software program. But that's just me. Just bought it can't wait for it to show up tomorrow.
