I liked the 72 egg crate grill style. 72 was the last year for the long tail lights too. I prefer the 71-72 rear lights over the box-styled 73-74 ones.
With the 401 and the International positrak rear end, it came down to driver skills in street racing. The Javelin was very hard to beat. The 401 was a well balanced engine which makes me wonder why sub grade cranks and bearing shells were used and you started looking before it hit 25000 miles. If you dumped the step crank and used performance bearing shells, they were virtually untouchable
I didn't race it. I drove it over 175k miles. No serious breakdowns. My only negative was the seat vinyl quality. It was coarse and not comfortable without a pad.
Uno de los carros musculosos V8 mas hermosos. Lastima que American Motors Corporation AMC desapareció. Fabricaban carros excelentes.
Everythingg looks good, stripes on correctly, the shoulder straps should be hung up, there's a clip for them. Too bad it has the after market rear spoiler, should have put the AMC rear spoiler designed by AMC race driver and engineer Mark Donohue.

72 lights are the best
I had a 72 Javelin/AMX 401 that I finally traded for a 1986 Mustang GT (EFI). I got 175,000+ miles on it. Best car I ever owned.
