Dune books already exist. Rebel Moon is only long because Zack Snyder wants to make it his story really long

Long is fine, as long as you are telling a compelling story, which I dont think part two is for some of the scenes. But you are correct, Zack can make it whatever he wants, its his story.

Here’s my thinking. I don’t think Netflix had any priority other than “get it out sooner than later”. Zack is riding a BIG WAVE of ego after the whole Snydercut nonsense so I think he said that he’d get these PG-13 versions out and then he’d get his “Snydercut” of this movie out. Netflix ONLY cares about one thing and that’s time of engagement and 2 hour long movie is fine but to get a 2 hour movie and then maybe a 4 hour “Snydercut” late made them drool. He gets what he wants and Netflix gets what they want and the Snyderfans will feel justified in their continued backing of Zack. I have said this Sucker Punch, the man makes incredible visuals (with the help of Larry Fong) but the visuals usually are just pretty and offer little in the way of storytelling. Sucker Punch was his “woman empowerment” movie and if you’ve seen it, it most assuredly IS NOT. Oh, he wrote that as well so you can see his history on movies he’s had a hand in on writing.

Yeah i agree with you on all those counts. I think for sure Netflix was calling most the shots on this deal of what versions go out and when. I honestly think Snyder is great with visuals, I just really think he would benefit from having a great team alongside him. A great writer, or two, a great cinematographer. I think he had something here that could have turned out really amazing if he wasnt trying to control every single aspect of it.

Just listened on Spotify. I agree with your assessment. I did like it but I watched it in several sittings and completely agree that the first hour was too long. I also thought that keeping everything on Veldt was very strange. I just wonder if they ran out of money or what. Did they even plan for this to be two movies or did they just stretch it out. I still very much liked the second half of the film. I am a pretty easy critic for movies. I can be happy with simple plotlines, good CGI and explosions which this had.
I recently watched most of the DCEU and realized that Snyder is always setting up the next project instead of focusing on the task at hand. I get excited for the next film but then it doesn't come bc the one I am watching bombed. I think you need to make a great movies before you make the franchise and not the other way around. In any case, I had low expectations for this and Netflix movies in general so my low expectations were met. Good characters tho, good actors, good action. I thought the casting of the lead actress was spot-on and the other cast members did great. The villain, Noble, was pretty awesome - creepy AF.

Oh agreed, I think thats most of the reason this was such a bummer because it had such amazing actors and characters I was absolutely interested in. I just wanted a more compelling story.
I think its certainly fair to enjoy movies just for the entertainment of them without needing it to always be some big sweeping idea, movies are art and its all personal taste. I get sucked into a lot of what I would consider simple movies, like Jungle Cruise or The Lost City and I adore them while most dont. Sometimes simple movies are the best.

@@cinematicsarcastic Yeah - I liken my taste in movies to that of someone that loves pop music. As a musician my tastes can get super-eccentric and experimental bc I get bored with mainstream.
So, what are we watching next?😁 I have a lot of sports to catch up on in the meantime. I'm not sure what show/movies I should watch.

@@pype720 haha i think next i'll be tackling Ungentlemanly Warfare. I have lots of old episodes if you are looking for anything you may not have seen. But you have time for sports catchup before my next episode!

There’s actually 4 more movies planned. So that wasn’t “open ended” so much as yet more sequel bait.
So hold onto your hats, ‘cause there’s more where this came from!

yeah i for sure had forgotten there was more coming when i was watching. Now it will be interesting to see if those ever actually happen since these two didnt do well at all. But i have to admit I am still curious to see his director versions, if it changes how I feel. We shall see.

Snyder is a hack. He can't tell a story that someone else doesn't write for him, he can't shoot a movie that didn't already exist previously in film or comic book format. All sizzle, no steak.

yeah i havent had that much experience with his work. Rebel moon is probably the most i've seen of his films. I didnt mind the first film, thought the second half was really bad. But for sheer giggles I am sort of curious to see how different his director versions are. If they are any better or just still bad.
