Episode 229: Horizon-An American Saga Review
I'm a M. Night fan....interesting
What are you most looking forward to seeing in Dune Prophecy?
We got to know early in season 2 that the outside really is toxic. That was a big mystery in season 1, so it was good to know what was going on with that. I have had to learn to suspend my engineering brain when i watch shows like this - it is nonsensical for an enclosed space that has had hundreds (or thousands?) of dead bodies in it decomposing for years to have an atmosphere that humans could tolerate - never mind the toxic situation on the surface seeping inside. Very few science fiction plot lines hold up to that sort of scrutiny. So far there is no explanation on how one or more people could survive in a section of the new silo and have power and food and clean air and clean water - maybe later in season 2 there will be an explanation on that. Probably best not to over think it and just enjoy the story and the acting. I agree with you about Rebecca Ferguson - she does a great job.
Me not overthink, impossible lol. I am looking forward to seeing what new mysteries we have this season and I enjoy the show more than I have questions about things that dont make total sense. Plus I have to watch Bernard get what he deserves!
Amelia Brand was in a relationship with Edmunds not Mann (Matt Damon), She wanted to go to Edmunds planet but Manns was closer and they were low on fuel!!!
Ohhhh well now that makes so much more sense now! Apparently I already need another watch because I missed key elements the first go.
The acting was great, cinematography, and MUSIC! But a couple of us did not enjoy the movie AFTER thinking about it a little, lol. Good review though!
oh no!! So dont think about it, got it!!
What are your favorite moments from Interstellar? If there were any early clues or easter eggs, I'd love to hear them!
Matthew McConaughey's finest work in my opinion!!!
@@emojojo2002 Even better than True Detective??? Blasphemy!
@cinematicsarcastic didn't see it but I have a hard time imagining he out did himself with this performance!!
@@emojojo2002 oh my gosh!! I'm not saying it will change your mind but True Detective is a must watch! First season is the best!!! I personally think he did better in that than Interstellar. Different vibes though, crime v scifi
@cinematicsarcastic yes it's on the watch list, I just haven't got around to it... They use a different actor every season right?
So I struggled through the whole season. It was never terrible, but it was never good. Linking it to the original series didn't help. They should have gotten another actor to play Felix and not try to have that actor play an older version of himself. I like how both of the kids in the show are biracial and with the white parent. Including the one that abandoned her deaf daughter. The girl looked more like a boy which is I guess a nod to being trans. There was nothing cool in the show, no good hook. No good action. The mystery was mediocre. There was no reason to make this show. Kristen Ritter was miscast.
This show is great
What is it that makes you love The Diplomat? Let me know in the comments!
Season 1 was very good. I enjoyed it. I am looking forward to watching season 2. Not as good as The Americans, but still a decent watch IMHO. Keri Russell does an excellent job.
I have never watched The Americans either, is that one worth giving a watch?
@@cinematicsarcastic You HAVE to watch The Americans. One of the best things out there in the past decade or so.
@@TonyNewman-n9z oh wow, thats some high praise. I will add that to my list and start that this week then!
I hope you keep watching. I just finished episode six and can't wait for the ending. This is all about the way we judge people so quickly. So far Catherine's story is being told by others and everyone is quick to believe what others say about her. Disclaimer is like holding a mirror up to our society. It's not pretty. Alfonso Cuaron is always extraordinary.
Well there isnt much for great shows, so maybe i'll make my way back around and give it another shot.
Book was good.
Thats fantastic to hear! I'm waiting for it to come in at my local library and then i'm all over it!
Don't waste your money on this woke crap. I just did and I regret it. It's a movie that doesn't know what it's about, apart from the simple fact it's about a conclave. End the ending is ludicrous. Fiennes is good, but all the other main characters (Tucci, Lithgow, and Rossellini) don't really have more than a few minutes of screen time. Hard pass.
@@PeterPonomarenko woke crap is a simple way to define for your disdainful way to describe the word Respect!
@@VEM0905 I don't understand your post.
I have read, with this, 3 reviews. I’m surprised that not one Catholic review actually understanding the events. It was, from the Catholic point of view, superb. You mentioned of the seal, destroying the ring these are sacred parts of the process. I highly recommend to each and everyone who have given reviews omitting the religious significance of the rites and process, to research with the Catholic Church what does the Conclave ENTAILS. Make an appointment with your local bishop, please do the research then see the movie with “new eyes,” and give the correct review: 4 starts, a total Oscar nomination in many categories. I don’t know the names of the actors, but the 3 shown, including the Head of the sisters, she acted so well, it felt real. Her adamant, fierce, determination in front of all Cardinals to reveal the truth. Her acting was superb and you didn’t even mention her, the others just mention her as if they were forced to do it! The Head of the Cardinals, his friend Bellini and the Head nun deserve Oscar nominations, as well as the director. Yes: the end, after so much suspense so much intrigue, leaves you leaving the theatre asking… that’s it??! How long are you going to leave me wondering… And now…what? Maybe a second film? 🎞️ I don’t know. I’m Catholic, went to Catholic school the same as the lady who played the Head Nun… Please do the research, it’s an exquisitely research and followed to the “T” experience by the ‘Conclave’ s film director. He as well as these 3 actors and the movie well deserve an Oscar. Mind you: It’s been years I don’t go to the movies, and, I just had to see it: We went on Thursday to the premiere Do you know what the word “Conclave,” means: It means “WITH KEY” Conclave (Italian: Con chiave)(Spanish:Con llave)(French: Avec le clé) Conclave meaning all Cardinals gather inside the Sistine Chapel until the Pope is elected. Now they stay at the new hotel - where the current Pope resides as per His own wish: “Santa Marta.” As the tradition or part of the ritual states: once inside, they are all locked in, from outside with A KEY.
Isabella Rossellini is the actress who played the nun and I did mention her and say she did a great job, I try to keep my reviews under 15 minutes so unfortunately cant do into detail about every part of the film and every character. I appreciate you sharing your perspective as a Catholic for other movie goers.
@@cinematicsarcastic Thank you! First, It’s been a long time I don’t go to the movies. Second, I have a terrible memory! I loved her acting. She did great in my humble opinion. God bless!
@@cinematicsarcastic Hi! First and foremost I m shocked you wrote to me. But let me humble, offer my sincere condolences for your loss. It must be difficult to have to rate a movie when your mind and heart are with the person who’s no longer with you! She did say, I heard her saying, in English, that she attended Catholic school and that experience helped her in acting those brief but important scenes. There are 2 that she is brilliant, in my humble opinion, 1.- when he’s pushing the door and she’s determined to not let him in. Again, the second and third scenes she’s shown him proof on the computer and the best: She’s denouncing the culprit Cardinals in the center of all of them with a strong, powerful voice. Please request a visit with your closest bishop in NYC Cardinal Nolan will welcome you with open arms. Ask questions and you are going to understand the process. Then, in due time, when your heart is ready watch the movie with the Catholic Church’s religion in mind. I sincerely believe that the direction did an incredible fantastic job. I just returned from Rome August this year. What I saw the most near where I stayed- 2 blocks away from the Vatican- were nuns and priests. It’s something that made me feel comfortable and safe. In my hotel, my next door neighbor was a very nice nun. One day I just held open the elevator door for her, just because! She turned around, Looked at me and said: ‘Dio ti benedica!’ (God blessed you) I was so touched by her kindness I just cried. Since that day, she would greet my friend and I at breakfast Buongiorno! I would reciprocate the same. A very beautiful experience! Thank you for your kind note, I appreciate it. I promise you, when you speak to the priest or bishop, you will see This great movie, when you see it again, with totally different eyes. It’s been a real pleasure to exchange experiences with you. Truly your and with the utmost respect for your wonderful work, Sincerely, Vivian M. Estrada-Mora🌹
PS: not direction but Film Director. Sorry!
I’m sorry about your loss.. prayers your way 😢
Thank you.

I watched it last night..It’s so good, will watch again 🩷
I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Thanks for the review! I was curious about the show but not enough to pay for HBO. It's funny, the Texas Renaissance Festival used to invite me to cover it, but now they've told me they don't want me filming there because I'm a "UA-camr" 🤷🏻♀️ Any suggestions for other Renaissance festivals?
Haha well its worth the watch if it ever moves off HBO in the future. I have only ever been to the Colorado Ren Faire and I enjoy that but I have no clue if any crazy stuff happens there lol
@@cinematicsarcastic no worries! Thank you
Yeah thank god he didn't get involved in this film
Yeah! This is an excellent movie. Must watch.
Nice review. I will be giving this show a try, mostly because of Cate Blanchett. She is a huge talent.
She is indeed! She is the only reason I might continue despite not finding it all that thrilling. She is just so good.
Fun drinking game, count how many times I say this movie is 'interesting'. Gosh lol. Also let me know in the comments if you guessed the movie I thought was similar but couldn't name!
Exactly couldn’t agree more myself! 🎉
I will have to check this one out. Haven’t watched it before I haven’t seen it at all. Heard about it.🎉
It was a pretty fun movie. I have heard a few say the twists are not hard to see but i for sure didnt pick up on them early.

'Kaos', starring Jeff Goldblum has been cancelled by Netflix after just one season.
Does Hold Your Breath bring a new grit to horror or fall flat? Let the movie nerds know what you think in the comments!
Haven't watched this but going through The Godfather trilogy again. Was hoping it was one of those quite masterpieces that people wouldn't really get but at the same time Coppola hasn't made anything decent in recent history. Unlike some of the aging directors who keep putting out interesting pics like Cronenburg. This is also bad news for the likes of David Lynch and others trying to get films made. Studios will bankroll new talent rather than giving the ol' boys a chance. It's also crazy to hear Coppola was writing dialogue during the shoot, I've heard stories about Director tweaking the script and encouraging improv but surely there was a script if it was in development so long?
yeah i'm not actually sure if its true or not. I know he is suing Variety for the article they put out about his misconduct on set and I cant find the one discussing the actors waiting while he rewrote the script. Its likely just a rumor. You have to imagine the actors saw something beforehand to make them agree to the film in the first place. But its such a mess, I cant imagine the script was the selling point.
@@cinematicsarcastic Yeah there were some reviews which mentioned a bit of a smear campaign and apparently some of the allegations were debunked.. you've got me intrigued though just to see if the dialogue is that bad 😂Did you watch Cosmopolis with Robert 'The Batman' Paterson? Similar name and perhaps similar themes, dialogue style..
@@thefractaleye No i didnt. Never even heard of it but if its similar to megalopolis, thats a hard pass lol
@@cinematicsarcastic Wasn't selling it too well was I 😁..in its favour I would say Cosmopolis had a modest budget, mostly practical effects, was based on a book.. so had solid foundational material.. takes place mostly from the protagonists limmo.. and it ended up being pretty interesting.. much more dystopian to Megalopolis Utopia..
Would you count Megalopolis as the worst film of 2024? Share your thoughts with the movie nerds below!
Happy to report that episode 2 has maintained the high standard set in episode 1. This show has exceeded my expectations hugely. There is so much trash out there it is refreshing to get a decent crime drama.
Ooh I havent watched episode 2 yet!! But now i'm excited!!
@@cinematicsarcastic It's right up there with episode 1 IMHO. Loving this show.
@@TonyNewman-n9z I sped over to watch it after you said it was good. I think I liked the second episode more than the first. I am so in love with Sofia
@@cinematicsarcastic Cristin Milioti does a very good job playing Sofia.
This was a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing.🎉
I share your same sentiment to this show as I'm not a fan of the Batman, but The Penguin is leaps and bounds waaay better than the Batman movie
Agree!! I know some are pretty unsure how they plan to make this work without Batman but I am already convinced they can do it. We dont need no stinking bat!
Just watched it. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti are excellent. Gritty and dark. Loved it.
Its so good! I cant get enough, i've watched the first episode twice now
I really liked it.🤷♂️. I thought the style was good. I really don't know much about mythology so I don't have anything to compare it to. Did anyone notice that everything was like early 90s tech? The phones and TVs? I liked the comedy and I guess the jokes could have been better but it kept it light. I didn't care for the gore or violence - it seemed often out of place but I guess it's common with many new shows these days.
Thats great! I already have come to terms with being one of very few who did not enjoy it. Also the gore and violence would be par for the course with greek myths. Lots of redrum and other nasty things in those stories.
I just saw it finally with my daughter. She basically said the same thing that there were like 5 subplots and it was too much. I still loved it though because of how visually bizarre it all was. I liked how fast paced it was. Your criticism is spot on tho. I wonder if they'll do anything else with the IP.🤔
I havent been able to confirm the news (so take it as rumor only) but I have heard that keaton has signed a multi movie deal and there is possibly a tv series in the works.
@@cinematicsarcastic That would be fun!
@@pype720 agreed! I hear the tv series will be about the sandworms?? So that could be super cool. We shall see.
This is ur personal opinion no a review of the show
It was dull and convoluted. Jeff didn't have much to do but he was at least trying to have fun with it.
Oh Jeff Goldblum is a treasure, I will never argue that.
Like when she's now boss lady,so Diana's services were no longer required 😂
This Movie was TRASH, I "SEEN" the 1st Beetlejuice in the movie theaters when it came out, so Im a living hard Fan of Beetlejuice..!!! I think this movie was all a Money Grab.. The movie was all over the place and it didnt make any sense and Beetlejuice has a Wife hunting him down wtf Nah Buddy.. Beetlejuice s supposed to be dark, not a Musical.. Tim Burton definitely fumbled the ball on this one.. Im so tired of Part.2 movies being lame.. this movie basically in my opinion Ruined Beetlejuice Image, it feels like a D.E.I Movies.. My Wife and I give it 4 Thumbs Down..
With a few exceptions, I think most sequels are all for the money grab.
I was actually disappointed that it wasn't worse. A 0% movie is like Madam Webb, and I expected worse than that. This was just a kind of mid Hollywood cash grab. Not exactly a 0.
yeah i was expecting it to be really terrible and it was just regular bad. I say dont adapt anything unless you're willing to put the work in to get it right or at least make it decent.
They talk themselves out of it because...-looks down- the script said so LOL.
lol exactly right
dude.... the quality?????the thumbnail?????SIS
Haha I try my best
Theyre probably planning a third... it would make sense if the names are involved
I assumed thats why they left it open for that option. Why stop at 2 when you can build a franchise.
@@cinematicsarcastic yep. So this episode was probably a lot of story building, they have 25 years to make up for
Justice for bob!
I honestly thought when she was stealing his soul that it would stop once his stitches were out so he could talk. I was wrong lol
Excellent review. The movie had way too much going on and didn’t feel like beetlejuice or Tim burton in any way.
Which is odd, I came home and looked up to see oh did he write the first but not the second, but no he never wrote the first one either. Some elements felt very similar to the first, the practical effects and such but some not so much. Changing with the times perhaps.
completely agree with this review. I’m shocked at the gushing reviews
Well everyone likes different things. I'm sure I love many movies other people didnt like one bit.
