Yep I'd go with the Manix 2LW over the shaman at that price. It would be a good idea to line up a bunch of your $180 knives with the shaman just to really show how over priced it is
I'll like my Manix 2 so much I bought another one. I want to have an emergency backup in case I lose it or something. But then I have a milk crate full of knives, so ... I just like it, okay!
The shaman is definitely the easiest Spyderco compression lock knife for lefties to operate in my opinion. Not sure why but it never slips out of my hand when closing. Usually lefties use the clip to help aid in grip while closing. I carry right handed to make things simple. I can operate the compression lock easily without swapping the clip to left hand tip up carry but it does make it easier to operate the compression lock left handed. Love the shaman and manix 2. Great video
Spyderco raising thier prices was a bad idea. They are now pushing Benchmade silliness. The prices were spot on before IMHO. Love to watch you guys almost cutting each other! I never get tired of it. 😋
The ironic thing about the Spyderco line up is.. "to each their own" each blade has their good points and bad points. But in the end.. it is what the end user likes in their hand that determines the "usability" :-)
Glad I got my Shaman for $150 before the prices went up. Have to say I love the knife. So comfortable in hand. Like the thicker stock especially at the tip. At $182 I'd be struggling with getting it though as I will be with all spydercos now. As far as I'm concerned they're all over priced now, just like Benchmade. Got my crooked river before Benchmade went up in price too. Guess I'll be buying more of my favorite brand, ZT this year. Also I continue being impressed by WE, Real Steel and Ruike. Got a ridiculous deal on a ridiculous knife, the cold steel holdout 1 last week. But surprisingly it does fit in my pocket. Not that I'd edc a six inch blade!
The Spyderco lock is technically (as in under patent law) not the same as the axis lock. Also, I'm pretty sure that Benchmade makes the spydiehole under license from Spyderco. I'm kicking myself hard that I didn't pick up a shaman before the price increases in January.
I'm still carrying the Delica 4 Emerson with the signet ring from Wise Men Co. in VG-10 steel and frn scales. I need to get a new knife but with so many options it is a very hard decision. Thanks for sharing this with us! Keep up the good work!
Dont get the statement that s30v is "chippy" I have at least 12 knives in 30v and have never had a problem also I have a spyderco citadel in s30v had it about 10 years and have whipped it like a plow horse never had anything but an amazing edge on it. Thanks for the video.
My g10 shaman took a few weeks to break in and become a comfortable flicker. The crucarta one was realllyyyy flickable right out of the box...a little too flickable in fact. I had to snug it up and get rid of some blade play...but even after that, its still really free flowing. The shamans seem like they’re kind of variable on an individual level as far as that stuff goes...a little moreso than the other spyderco models I’ve had. Still, it’s my favorite model. It’s just so comfortable, little variations from piece to piece don’t really bother me.
Just go five more - lol - I have the G10 Manix and love it, although the ball lock was stiff at first and needed some break in time. I do agree that the Manix is a better comparison than the Para 2. Love my Para 2. I have a Sage V with the compression lock, and I really enjoy that knife - probably carry that one more than any of my other Spyderco's (realize no one cares, but hey - this is for science). I don't have a Shaman yet (bein' frum Ar-kin-saw and awl, ah'll probly say "Shayy-munn", but I do plan to buy one when they go five more (lol). I didn't realize how thin they are. I always enjoy your videos, thanks!
The manix is a better value IMO and I prefer the ball lock to the compression lock. I agree at that price I'd just go for a higher quality knife,Shaman should have been $140 max imo.
I plan on picking up the all blacked out Shaman once it's released. Only thing that concerns me is the choil sticking so high up in the compression lock. Just doesn't look like it's correct.
so I hear that more than a handful is a waste....So my wife is just being greedy. I watch your videos for the great content. 35% knife reviews and 60% the innuendos .
So I just ordered a manix 2 LW so I'm revisiting this vid lol but have you noticed that the manix 2 LW and the Native 5 LW seem like an awesome set. They just seem so similar possibly the perfect his and hers pair! 👍
That's the Sage 1, Sage 3 has the Bolt Action Lock, and the Sage 4 is very rare because almost nobody bought the original version so they discontinued it rather quickly.
Thanks for the comparison. Always liked my LW, very surprised it was so close in size w/ the Shaman! Think I'll stick w/ my Manix 2 LW. I'd love to find one of those white Endura's.
Excellent vid! Here’s a strategy: let everyone go get one, let the sales drop, wait a bit for the price to drop than buy one. Or better yet wait for a sprint run in a better steel. On the other hand: your innuendos are killing me! 😉🤪😆😆😂😂😂
BirdShot IV , I just realized after watching it the second time I can extract the audio, take certain sections and over-impose them on a “different” video and start making some money! 😜🤪😂😂😂😂
That shaman looks monstrous in her hand! Lol I got one the day they were released and it was such a dud. Didnt like the edges of the scales, the tang of the blade comes up into the compression lock cutout. And I've pretty much decided that I'm over 50/50 choils. Loved the blade thickness though! Over all though, my manix 2 g10 wins all day(even with the superfluous choil).
Just glad you made another video. I miss you two. I'll support a patreon if you make more vids I promise. Lol. Price is a pretty big difference so gotta Say manix2 cause I have one and the shaman I'll never have. To pricy and to BIG! Why can Kiser offer s35 and g10 for 70 bucks. But spyderco and benchmade charge $180 for s30 and g10. Manix is a decent price though. Both are a liitle fat in the pocket.
One reason for the difference is U.S. made vs. China. No surprise that a U.S. made product that takes a lot of labor would cost 2x the same product from China. Labor cost, rent, regulations (safety, EPA, etc.). If you only shop on price you can almost always do better than a U.S. made product. I'll pay more for U.S. made and help my neighbors keep their houses.
I'm returning my Shaman because I don't like the way the blade hits my finger when closing in the compression area. I like my SpydieChef much better & already have 3 different ( & superior} Manix-2's!
Hey you two. Thumbs up! I completly agree. Now, if we can just get some more color options, from Spyderco. On the Manix 2 S110V Ball Bearing Lock knife. Enough with the blue already! : - )
...for a few more $'s...'Spydie Chef'...except they 'increased the price' another $15...'thumbs up' on the Manix2 Lightweight ...have a good evening...
I can't find anything wrong with the 80$ manix 2 with d2.. Sharp, stays sharp.. Not as difficult to sharpen as some.. No chipping here.. Not yet anyway.. I'll carry it for a year and see how it holds up.. I tend to carry one for a year then find something new.. Sometimes I go back to old stuff but mostly into lightweight for a few years... If I need to chop a tree down I'll use something else.
Hi from England! You guys are great, especially after a few beers. As in me having a few beers, I am sure you are far too sensible than to drink and play with knives. But, to my point. Wouldn't the mighty Manix 2 Lockback be a better stand up, knock down competitor to the Shaman? I say that not having even held a Shaman but owning both the Manix 2 Lockback and the Manix 2 LWT S110V. Cheers!
The Shaman reminds me of my excellent Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter. Except it has unnecessary liners for that silly lock and it's about twice the price I paid.
Out paying bills got the notification you made a new video wanted to watch so bad but I was driving. 2hrs later just watched and like every other time before it was worth the wait love your videos 👍
The lighthearted aspect of your channel is awesome. Showed this video to my wife who is a spyderco fan, and laughed then cringed at the that's what she said joke. S110v at $100 is a bargain btw.
Never had any problem with S30v chipping, even with heavy use. D2 chips on me. Then again the knives with D2 are butterfly knives & I'm always dropping them.
not sure, but i think frankies prob is the angle of the flick, rather than flicking up shes flicking out. cool vid tho, i like the shaman in videos and picks, but im so torn between the shaman and the manix :(
Choil rides too high in the compression lock and the tip down holes are going to let a whole lot of crap in on those washers. This is a hard working knife not a office toy they really need to change that.
Kudos for spydie flicking the tuff lite (yeah now I'm trying it with mine). Geez in better steel like s110v it'll be $250. Spyderco has lost its mind. I think spyderco is only for spyderco fans now, similar to benchmade, it's not competitive and won't bring in many new customers. (I got $250 by using the manix g-10 s30v %39 price increase for s110v).
Haven't bought the Shaman yet as I was late to the party and the price went up with 40$ and as I have two Manix 2, not sure I will pick it up until the price drops. And S30V is NOT my favourite steel as it chips way too easy. My Manix 2 lightweight S110V will chip as well but it will be taking a heck of a more abuse before I start seeing micro chips. Under my electric magnifier for my IPad it is so easy to spot the chips in the S30V.. and it drives me nuts.. I is like a new song "sharpening forever, S30V why do you do this to me" ..
Completely different class of knife. Handle, design, blade steel - not even close. Haven't held the Griploc, but my experience with Boker isn't great. Their $120 knives leave me scratching my head in terms of value. Maybe that model is better. The blade steel on the Shaman is quite good, if not the best. The blade steel on the Griploc is not good, even for a $40 knife.
whats up!!!! i dont own those knives but ill prob. buy the manix. i only have the endura and the domino right now. my domino is my gentleman carry 8) ATB HAGD
The Shaman is not different enough for it’s high price and it must be hard when you get your finger stuck in the hole Frankie lol. Great video comparison guys!
Slimjim V-5 We plan to do that I personally don't mind bear grylls as I don't have a lot of money but I agree that there are better knives like a mora or a buck☺
Yep I'd go with the Manix 2LW over the shaman at that price. It would be a good idea to line up a bunch of your $180 knives with the shaman just to really show how over priced it is
Would love to see the Shaman in XHP or Maxamet
Where the Shaman REALLY shines is in ergonomics. It feels so great in the hand. The milled G10 is just fantastic.
agreed it is very ergonomic
The Manix 2 is my favorite blade for EDC. I own four, but only one is a LW. The ones with skeletonized liners are the best! C101CFPE2 for life!
I can operate the compression lock easily without swapping the clip to left hand tip up carry but it does make it easier to operate the compression lock left handed. Love the shaman and manix 2. Spydie flicking the Tuff-Lite is no joke. Nicely done.
Spyderco raising thier prices was a bad idea. They are now pushing Benchmade silliness. The prices were spot on before IMHO. Love to watch you guys almost cutting each other! I never get tired of it. 😋
lol thanks for watching!
"My finger fully fits in the hole"
If I had a nickel.
The ironic thing about the Spyderco line up is.. "to each their own" each blade has their good points and bad points. But in the end.. it is what the end user likes in their hand that determines the "usability" :-)
I love the shaman but i'm glad I bought it when the price was lower I really don't think I could justify the money at the new price.
Got a ridiculous deal on a ridiculous knife, the cold steel holdout 1 last week. But surprisingly it does fit in my pocket. Not that I'd edc a six inch blade!
WE, Real Steel, Ruike all are 100% made in China. In case you want to consider where your money is going.
Andy Richardson yeah what's wrong with that
I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. Some of us care about where products are made. Not expecting you to agree.
Andy Richardson spyderco makes knives in China as well (and other countries) and benchmade did too for awhile.
I'm well aware. I don't buy those.
The Spyderco lock is technically (as in under patent law) not the same as the axis lock. Also, I'm pretty sure that Benchmade makes the spydiehole under license from Spyderco. I'm kicking myself hard that I didn't pick up a shaman before the price increases in January.
There was a falling out/court case between Spyderco and Benchmade, it's been awhile though. I wanna say it was resolved in 2010, 2011
Axis lock pattern expired over a year ago too..
I'm still carrying the Delica 4 Emerson with the signet ring from Wise Men Co. in VG-10 steel and frn scales. I need to get a new knife but with so many options it is a very hard decision. Thanks for sharing this with us! Keep up the good work!

Frankie is adorable, "Well splooge away" .
lol
So I've been looking at spyderco, maybe a budget one but in other news my pst is out for replacement I just hope I didn't mess up the warranty paper
Yeah I agree the steel should be s35vn at the price, but with all else considered its a hell of a knife and a joy to carry.
I plan on picking up the all blacked out Shaman once it's released. Only thing that concerns me is the choil sticking so high up in the compression lock. Just doesn't look like it's correct.

2:30 that's what he said
Edit: Damm you beat me to it
So I just ordered a manix 2 LW so I'm revisiting this vid lol but have you noticed that the manix 2 LW and the Native 5 LW seem like an awesome set. They just seem so similar possibly the perfect his and hers pair! 👍
Isn't the manix 2 lightweight pinned construction?
That's the Sage 1, Sage 3 has the Bolt Action Lock, and the Sage 4 is very rare because almost nobody bought the original version so they discontinued it rather quickly.

Wow, it's not easy to Spidey-flip a Tuff Lite! Also, didn't you get the memo that said ALL Knife Reviewers MUST possess a PM2?
That shaman looks monstrous in her hand! Lol I got one the day they were released and it was such a dud. I really wanted to like that knife but I'm lefty. I guess im good with my manix 2 xl. Thanks gu3

S110V Ball Bearing Lock knife.

I don't think I could get away with flipping knives at work; that would be nice
The Shaman reminds me of my excellent Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter. Except it has unnecessary liners for that silly lock and it's about twice the price I paid.
Manix is light and a better slicer.
For hard use, I prefer a cold steel recon tanto xl.
Out paying bills got the notification you made a new video wanted to watch so bad but I was driving. 2hrs later just watched and like every other time before it was worth the wait love your videos 👍
haha awesome!
Love the manix 2, but I use a zip tie wave mod lol.. I think that's what people call it.. Works well
What's the flipper knife that isn't on the mat in front of Frankie?
The lighthearted aspect of your channel is awesome. Showed this video to my wife who is a spyderco fan, and laughed then cringed at the that's what she said joke.
S110v at $100 is a bargain btw.
I have your para 2!! Love it!
Never had any problem with S30v chipping, even with heavy use. D2 chips on me. Then again the knives with D2 are butterfly knives & I'm always dropping them.
haha that makes a difference
Shaman in pakkawood like how they did with the delica and endura can justify a $180 price tag
Can you guys call Sal and/or Eric and ask them very politely to please make a Military 2 with a compression lock and tip-up carry option? Thanks! 🙂
not sure, but i think frankies prob is the angle of the flick, rather than flicking up shes flicking out. cool vid tho, i like the shaman in videos and picks, but im so torn between the shaman and the manix :(

The Spyderco Shameman.
oh no lol

thanks for watching and commenting Frank!
BirdShot IV always watching and enjoying your videos. Keep it up, guys!! 🦉🗡❤
Hey bird, frankie y'all look up Eafengrow knives on Amazon. Looks like another great Chinese made knife.
I've stayed away from the Shaman, waiting on version 2.0, better steel, better lock, and more handle options.
It will be interesting to see what they release
They need to make this 2 in LC200N...I would buy right away
I'd like that as well!
I have to re-watch this video just to do a double-entendre count.
Don’t squeeze the shaman!
Peter Galione bravo
Any experience with the Boker Griploc seems like a great flipper, and engeneering looks awesome. Just ordered one on sale for 39.99
Completely different class of knife.
Andy Richardson I would agree that the blade steel is no comparison. Was just posing it as a question and not a comparison or alternative.
David K Got it. Assumed since you asked on this post you were comparing the two. My bad.
I love the shaman. You should check out the Kershaw Leak just picked it up and i love it.
we both agree with you on the Leek, had ours since 2014
Have you guys ever had a crkt m16 o1s
Hey guys have you seen the OKC rat 2 in d2 on bladehq, im hyped to get one soon
get one for sure!
whats up!!!! i dont own those knives but ill prob. buy the manix. i only have the endura and the domino right now. my domino is my gentleman carry 8)
ATB HAGD
thank you for the support!
I’ll stick with my pm2 and p3
Who doesn't like the compression lock!!!
popular for a reason!
Yes indeed but everyone has their preference. My favorite lock followed by the Triad lock.
whens that skaha vid coming?
I am left handed... and I can never "spidie" flip with my middle finger.. but can do it with my thumb like mad
Aka bird vs nick shabazz who has better taste
oh no
It's more like the Manix XL.
I like not putting my finger in the meat chopper with a liner lock !
thanks for watching Dale!
It is pinned, yoy can’t take it apart
The Shaman is not different enough for it’s high price and it must be hard when you get your finger stuck in the hole Frankie lol. Great video comparison guys!
thanks David!
Are you going to do the Kizer Gunhammer?? I have the tanto version and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
The shaman does nothing for me :/ I've enjoyed the knife banter tho :)
we really appreciate that!
It’s just a sage it’s the first sage I agree to much $
yep. Always got those confused
Shaman for sure
lol thanks for watching!
Want me to drive it over since y’all about 15 minutes from me! Lol
haha! Didn't I even sharpen it first?
BirdShot IV yes, you did sharpen it! It’s still really sharp!
good video!!
Big thumbs up 💗👍👍👍👍💞💕
frankie needs a lil Native
she does!
There will be blood.....in the hole.....
Second since you made the vid(:
manix 2
thanks for watching!
Contoured
.

thanks for watching!
Spyderco are the ugliest knives made. I have not seen one that I would even consider to get. Sorry just my opinion.
Function over form
I have a really small yt channel(:
Blackwood Blades try changing the profile pic to not look like gerber bear grylls trash 👌🙌
Slimjim V-5 We plan to do that I personally don't mind bear grylls as I don't have a lot of money but I agree that there are better knives like a mora or a buck☺
