    The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is an animated television program that was broadcast in two parts on CBS in 1979, based on the novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis.
    When four children Lucy, Susan, Edmund and Peter stumble into an old Wardrobe they find themselves in a magical land called Narnia with talking animals, fauns, hags, the Wicked White Witch and the great lion Aslan. There they meet the friendly Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, who help them on their quest to find Aslan the great lion. Only he can help save Lucy's friend Mr. Tumnus (the faun) from the White Witch. They have a fun mysterious time there, and ultimately end up ruling as kings and queens, until they end up back home.
    Production notes
    The rights to produce the television program were given to the Episcopal Radio TV Foundation in the mid-1950s when C.S. Lewis was recording the Episcopal Series of the Protestant Hour radio programs. Dr. Ted Baehr was elected President of the Episcopal Radio TV Foundation as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was preparing to be broadcast by CBS, and supervised the distribution of the subsequent video. The CBS program had 37 million viewers, and won an Emmy Award.[1]

      Same, my favorite part is when Aslan gives the speech about their battle not being over yet and that their people are outnumbered and they must join the fight. It always gets my blood boiling, lol. It’s just so moving. Especially since they had been the ones who stood up to the witch in the past most likely or were captured and then were turned to stone.
      It is a little bit how I imagine it will be like when God comes back and all good people are brought back to life to take out the forces of evil.
      Just so epic.

      To be frank I don't as much because personally while it is enjoyable in some aspects, I prefer the 2005 version much more. There's something about Tilda Swinton being the White Witch that just works so well. In retrospect I prefer the PG-13 live action version because it was a much more realistic view of Narnia.

    when i was a child, i had a very valuable skill when it came to films, music & tv programmes. if i watched the thing enough times, i could repeat it in my imagination using my memory, in its entirety. i did eventually learn that this was because i grew up neurodivergent - anyway, this came in extremely useful when i was bored in school, in the car on long drives and on holiday when there was no electric to watch anything. this was one of those films that i photographically memorised. i absolutely adored it, and it still holds up after all those years. beautiful animation and music. it had me climbing and clambering into every wardrobe in my house, hoping that one day i’d end up in magical narnia. i am so grateful it’s on here, nothing much i love more than revisiting my bizarre childhood!

    Omg I don't remember the cartoon for this. I just remembered the BBC kids program I grew up with as an 80s kid.

    1:12:53 - I remember when I watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe many years ago. This would have been The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe (1979) - American Version. I wept deeply when I saw this as a 9 year old child back on CBS on April 1-2, 1979. It wasn't until 10 years later in college, 19 years of age, that it was brought to my attention that the Lion was actually Christ. It was a pure revelation to me and I was awestruck. ❤

    I saw this on TV when I was 8 years old and a few times after it was shown for a couple of years steadily then it stopped being broadcast but it always stayed with me. I don't remember the animation being this primitive but the story was so great it made the art seem better than it was in my memory.

    Jesus I forgot how different the art styles were in the 70s. The were a lot of shows from the 70s with reruns in the 90s and dear lord as an adult this is haunting but still great lol

    We saw the strangest version on TV (UK). It started out with English voices, then the soundtrack went... wrong, then the ads came on, and after the ads it was the US soundtrack with American voice actors!

  • @Dustydreams930
    @Dustydreams930 2 роки тому +21

    This remains for me the perfect adaptation of the book. The one oddity is that on this edition, with the English cast, the end credits are for the US version. I’ve always been curious about some of the voices: I hear Stephen Garlick as Peter and Sheila Hancock as the Witch, Leo McKern as the Professor and Leslie Philips as Mr Tumnus, Arthur Lowe and June Whitfield as the Beavers. But who are voicing Susan, Edmund and Lucy I wonder?

    • @echoriath2759
      @echoriath2759 6 місяців тому

      I would say this particular version is the US cut. In the UK the chief of the secret police was named Maugrim. In the US version of the book (and film) was Fenris Ulf. Maybe they kept the latter for both.

      This is definitely the UK cut - the witch played by Sheila Hancock rather than Beth Porter.
