*I found these ball bearing swivel snaps to **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s be just as effective in every aspect as the much more expensive brand name snaps.*
I tried swivel method for the first time today. Seriously, it couldn't have been easier. It just works.
I'm happy that I rather went with this method than the clapton jig thing that everyone is talking about since the possibilities is way bigger with the swivel method compared to the jig.
All I needed was a squeeze clamp, a plank, and a nail and of course the swivels, drill and wire.
Oh man dude! As a fisherman here in Colorado I have so many of these lying around. I am still pretty new and trying to get my claptons right but as of tonight I have made flawless claptons using this vid. Thanks again for the awesome tutorials and helping those out who wish to progress in their coil building! I can't wait to see what else you have en-store for us man. But all of your builds give me inspiration to push my limits as a coil builder. This one has made it easier for sure! Thanks amigo! cheers!
I've been using swivels for a while now and it's a total game changer. Free hand would cramp my fingers. Failed alien attempts would shred my fingers if I got kinks. Swivels are the way to go.
This is simple genious. The vaping hobby explosion is really helping out alot of other companies as well as creating many new small businesses. Just wish I had a time machine to go back just 3-4 years when I was unhappy with my job at the time then went a while without work and wanted to start a business but had no ideas. Just to bad sub ohm tanks have slowed down the growth of coil builders. I know I build alot less since I got the atlantis when it came out. Actually if I could go back I and only change one thing I would probably bring out the first sub ohm tank better than the best one out today so people wouldn't have had to go through so many because of small issues each different one has. Like eliminate bottom filling from the start.
Super cool I was at wal-mart not 20 mins. ago looking at swivels and held off cause I wanted to research what the best kind was to get...Come home and bam DooDe got me covered!!! thanks bro. for all your time and efforts with these vids!! You the man keep em coming.
Not sure how swivels ended up in the "less-talented" category, but for simple clapton builds, it would definitely be working faster & smarter. I've never used them myself and have hand wrapped every coil I've ever vaped for the last 3 years since this concept came out rather recently. I guess it's just "to each their own". Great vid, Sqiud! Stay foggy! \m/
how do u make claptons by hand? do u have a video tutorial up?
This video helped me SO much, thanks Doode!!
Could not live with out swivels. Thanks Squidoode for showing all these builds and tips. Been upping my game a lot in building. -Darkture-
what i like about the vape community is that there aren't any haters (yet). Everybody just throws shoutouts to everybody and thats awesome
+Juan Totomas For the most part yes this is true, but I have still met a few bad apples... You'll always have that but for the most part the vaping community/industry is great!
The type swivles that have ball bearings are Sampo, they have the best ball bearings. I use them for saltwater fishing available in any tackle shop.
Nice video, what size do you use for swivels? I want to order it online but still confused with the sizes!
Looks great well made I haven't tried yet would recommend
Pristine Builds or M.TERK on instagram (who also works at VVVapes) showed me this technique as well... I've been using it, and also made a video on it maybe a week or two ago myself (actually.. a day before you posting this video (lol). Great technique, fast and easy - for beginners.... or if your advanced and you can use this to simplify the process of doing even more advanced builds. I dont view this as "cheating" or whatever at all... I guess I can see where some people would... Either way - great video brotha - your camera quality and video quality is excellent man - love your videos - keep up the good work man! Take It Deep!
Convicted Vapes Mike is a great guy and a good friend! This technique is fantastic for those builders out there who struggle with any style clapton for sure! Thanks for checking out the videos as well, just sub'd to your channel so I hopefully don't overlap anything again! haha
+Convicted Vapes I agree. straightening a fused clapton that you didn't use a swivel on is annoying.
It’s dumb to build without a swivel. Why make it harder than you have to lol
You should make a tutorial on how to polish builds. I seen a polished fused clapton and it looked nice. I don't know if their are any benefits to it but it seems interesting.
Great video squid!!
Which coil do you prefer out of ALL of the builds you do? Which for flavor, which for clouds??
god job on that end but have you tryed using a cotterpin in the drill chuck it works much better for me there is no trying to get wire centered in the chuck and trapedin the jaw it centeres automaticly just put the wire though the eye of the pin give it a spin then put the otherend om the swivle works great for me
I have just started to try and learn how to make Claptons, since I don't have a bench press I still have to learn free handed and it is a pain in the butt
Best to learn the hard way first I always say! It's like drawing... They teach you how to draw before doing graphics in school!
The best way to learn is by freehand. Your will beast through builds once you use them. I would never use swivels to Clapton or fused but it helps with Aliens Staples and other multiple core builds due to tension. It's a very useful way to make building much more simple. Again, most builds you can free hand. Learning free hand is what's given me so much knowledge on the feeling of A build and the consistency. Keep up the work brother and just keep practicing. I wouldn't start using swivels until you can free hand a Clapton and fused Clapton. That will help you learn the feeling, and help you become familiar with feeling and visual aspects of correct building procedures
thanks for sharing Doode! i can do the 26 fused freehard but can't make the smaller stuff i want to try in kayfuns/tfv4s. looks like you had a riot at the con.
Thanks for the great video I have a question what size are those swivels? Please let me know the overall length or perhaps the # swivel I want to buy some is why I am asking Thanks Squidoode +The Art of Vaping
All facts! Great video! Mike is def the homies! Very cool in person and very accessible on his IG pg.
Brilliant , simply brilliant !
These types of wire spools are very hard to find in the Philippines, sure you can ship overseas, but the cost would be trippled at the very least. Like a spool of Master Cloud 250' nichrome80 would cost 16.99 frickin dollars. I wonder if you guys also import branded wires just like the way how atomizers and mods are imported? It would be a really big help for people like me who would like to start in coil building.
By inserting a simple single piece of round wire in between a fused clapton, how will this effect the resistance of the coil in all? Will it raise or lower the resistance?
Its mad, I got to the place of using a swivel only yesterday and totally independently (not even got Instagram lol) Method really works well :)
get sampo swivels they are the best and you only need one for a long time mines lastede for 2 monthes all i did was oil it a bit with a needle oiler so no contamination
I'm using this in my jewelry making. Thanks!
this is awesome can't wait to try it.
Use spinnerbait blade swivels with split rings won't fail period and meant for constant pressure and higher revolution
hey squiddoode. how do i keep the wire from twisting. everytime i make my claptons they tend to be slightly twisted. just didnt k ow if there was a trick to keep it from not doing that. i tried reversing the drill like you said and. i mean they are not trash by any means. its just being nit picky
i just want them to lie flat. they do for the most part. is there a technique to get them out besides pliers and twisting them back to shape?
i found these even helpful for doing an alien wire. great idea.
Hey Ryan! I saw you at ECC but you were heading on out it looked like so I didn't say Hi. Anyways did you find it unnatural at first using a swivel? I started building without a swivel and still do, I actually find it harder and uncomfortable using the swivel technique, maybe practice changes that? What are your thoughts?
Cristiano orlando I had a flight to catch early on Sunday unfortunately!
I still build free hand, challenges me more which I like but the swivel will get easier after some time with it. Learning what works best for you is always a learning process!
Thanks Ryan! Hope to meet the you someday!
thanks doode this is very helpful
been doing this for a long time
Has anyone come up with a coil building lathe yet? Like a tabletop drill with a foot pedal switch? Free up both hands. Maybe some jewelers have something like that. With a magnifying glass, alligator clips, spool holder on a tension line...
Would you change anything with the swivels for high gauge micro claptons like talking 36g/46gKPN80? It's like the 36g does't want to spin the swivel
+Curtis Rak The best thing to do that seems to work well with the finer wire is to actually insert a hook of sorts into the chuck of the drill and also use swivels on the other end. This should help allow you to keep more even pressure/tension on the core without it snapping at the swivels or at the drill.
What are these swivels actually called?? Is there a site where I can get these swivels???? I can't find them anywhere! A link would be great
+Snapback Vape www.cabelas.com/category/Swivels-Snaps-Clevises/104616180.uts you should be able to find everything you need here.
ball bearing snap swivel any place that has fishing supplies should have them
outstanding idea!
free hand here...swivels sometimes...I don't know. I go back and forth. freehand isn't that hard though.
Can anyone help me out! I've been using the swivels for awhile now and have no issues with it, but when I try to use 3 core wires for a fused, they just twist up and are useless... Anybody got a solution for my problem? I'd be very grateful :)
Does anyone know the name of the hook he uses at 2:15 to hold the swivels in the vice? I cannot find it anywhere and don't know what it's called. Please help lol. Thanks all.
Sheaven M. I've been looking and still no idea
hey dude can u help me out? I set up the drill with the swivels and some how my wire at the end of the chuck keeps snapping, the swivels are doing their thing so I don't understand why the wire keeps snapping. any suggestions? if anyone can help out is appreciate it
spin itslower or ease up on the tension...the drill is mechanical where as the swivels do their own work so the drill is most likelyspinning faster than the swivels can keep up so put less strain on the swivels and they should keep up better
+Rory Adam I'll give it a try if I ever get back on it lol
+Sinatra Winter make sure ther ball bearing
Very helpfully trick !
Really awesome video but you didn't really explain how to go about inserting the outer wire into the drill head which is where I got really confused. If anyone can help me with this would be much appreciated !
What size fishing swivels are you using?
0+0, 1+1, 2+2?
Leif Erickson You know, I'm not even sure!
Can you use this to clapton the 50g+ wire?
Ryan Smith Absolutely, really the only way to use the 50ga with success… There is a 50ga tutorial up on the "Pristine Builds" UA-cam channel, check it out!
typical "competetiveness" of our nature. always trying to compare ourselves to each other. the pureness of the "technique" isn't what's reveled. Almost everybody I know, that built claps and other dynamic builds, started "freehand". and all of them, including myself, prefer swivels. shit, it's always about who did it first, or who's a better builder, for so many. For me, it's about efficiency. I build coils for purpose and don't care to get into the art form debate. Thanks for the video. definately helpful for those not in the know when it comes to swivel types. using 3, high quality ss swivels is golden information.
Please can someone help me?! I've been beaten 6 times on a build. The core wire that I'm trying to do a spaced Clapton on, keeps snapping right at the chuck. Has anyone had the same issue? I think it might be the swivels not spinning well and this causes the wire to twist at the chuck and break when I'm spinning. So annoying!
Matthew Dean get better swivels and don't straighten the core wire
Whenever i wrap my claptons, they space out a lot D: like it starts to slide off the end of the 22" wire
so those are fishing swivels?
from the last words on this video, I get the impression that real og builders don't duck with swivels.
Every time I try making some alien coils the three wires don't like staying flat. I've tried masking tape. I've tried bobby pins and ive tried wire. Nothing I do work's. Does anyone have a tip or tricks to make this work?
apply less tension on the wires...wrap a bit looser? also once youget that first inch done squeeze it with pliers to get the inside wires parallel and then insert that section in the chuck. hope this helps...ive not actually done an alien so im just using logic...but either way figured it might help ya
Thank you, I'll try it next time but i'm not sure how well it will help. It just seems everytime I start to wrap the three wires form a triangle instead of a straight line. I'll keep trying im just going to have to buy more wire at this rate. Thanks for the input.
I know I'm a month late on this, but use a paperclip, keyring, or small hook to keep the wires parallel and move it down the length of wire as you wrap about an inch at a time. You'll still get a little bunching if you apply too much tension on the outer wire, but it'll at least keep everything straight. It is annoying to adjust the clip/ring every inch of wrapping, but as long as you're steady there won't be any skips or gaps in the wrap.
Nice!
This is off subject lol but where can I buy some springs to fit my celt mod switch anybody???
Theres videos on yt that teach you how to make one out of copper
Ps. The one swivel goes on the side of the vice not the top on the technique im referring to.
ECC withdrawals squid? sound alittle stuffed up x)
SneakyVapingCubone hahaha yeah, ECC was a blast man! This video was filmed the week before though and I was battling a sinus infection, just got home and had time to post it!
+The Art of Vaping check out the NATI POT technique to clean the upper respiratory tract, you will never get sick again. Check it out
Mterk must have impressed you with his stick at ECC15 :P
Roger Robinson I've been hip to this for awhile now! haha This video was filmed weeks ago, just got back from ECC in time to drop it! But yes he is a machine and clearly demonstrated that at ECC.
Always fun to mess with the big boys :P You guys do a great thing, keep up the hard work brother!
I miss these days so fucking much
how well do you h-EAR?
SWIVEL TIP: if your swivels arent rotating enough it will make the wire twist and end up breaking, i had some old swivels in my tacklebox and strung up to clapton, halfway through it was sticking and ended up breaking, all i had to do was spray the swivels with some lubricating spray(WD-40) and they work just fine. be careful not to get the lubricant all over the wire, it wont taste good if it gets on the wire your using to vape. #VAPEON
it's almost like cheating @theartofvaping is that what you mean by we have our own opinions.. as a somewhat new builder that has just really mastered fused Claptons and close relatives where I get it perfect,, I have really grown alot of respect for these builds,, it took me a bunch of Claptons to really get the techniques down.. there is something said for doing it with just a drill and your hands,, don't get me wrong tho,, I am going to cop some of those swivels for every once and a while,, but if new builders learn with just hands that gives a whole bother respect to it... no disrespect to people who use swivels
If you don't have ball bearing swivels, try lubricating them with vegetable oil. I did this and it actually does help.
DO. NOT. USE. WD-40. I tried that and.....well I don't think I need to explain to you why that is a very horrible idea.
exelente
Oh my flippin' God... It seems so amazingly obvious now that ye say it out loud!!! (And here I've been trying to brainstorm some sort of bracing device technique, like a chump...) Thanks for sharing the wisdom as usual brethren!!!
Shit I got a bunch of swivels here Idk why I've never thought of this haha good tutorial
no way I just bought some swivels like two weeks ago to try out. good stuff
thanks
THNX
Fuck that swivel! There's nothing like dodging a floppy flailing end of a Clapton core while its spinning in the drill! Haha jk if it works, work it
How has nobody just modified a guitar pickup coiler for claptons yet?
What do you mean? Like using the tuning jig?
I know you are one of the masters at coils out their but it confuses me why people who use swivels use so many when you only need one. Tighten one of the round ends around a vice and boom ur done. Or you could use one "clip open" swivel. Heres a link to what im referring to: ep.yimg.com/ca/I/tackle_2270_60409562 Again-it baffles me why people use five or six swivels. Ur coils are amazing and ive bought some from you before. I hope you keep the vids coming-i just wanted to put my two cents in worth
+Richard Conrad wow did you even watch the video haha -_- he tells you why geez man
i love when he says not as talented in building coils lmao as if you need talent to make coils lol just need to see how people make them and do it thats it lol ....this method is far superior way of making things ...its like either caveman making the first wheels then u upgrade in ways to make it better faster smarter hehe simple as that but by far don't need talent for this stuff.
+dreamkiss4u Unfortunately, I couldn't disagree more with you. Building coils requires a skill and any skill requires talent. Depending on your skill and talent can determine what you can and can't do. If you don't think any of this requires skill or talent then why do you think so many people watch this stuff? Further more, for those of us (myself included) who have come up with new and innovative coil designs, is that just luck or perhaps a product of time, skill and talent… Yes this method makes building clapton style coils much easier but that's because it requires less skill and talent to use!
+The Art of Vaping they watch it because oviously you need to be taught bit there's a difference in being taught and having talent because talent can't be taught...abd if you can learn it then it's not talent.
LMAO "extremely useful and helpful for some of those builders out there who aren't as talented...."
First
You did it
