Great video, this is easily the best one I have found and just used it this weekend to change out my starter. Just a heads up, if you do not want to remove the steering linkage you can loosen the two motor mounts from under the lower A arms and the 4 nuts under the transmission mount. Put a board under you oil pan (2x6x12ish) and use a jack to lift it about 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch, in all it takes less than 5 minutes. This will provide all the clearance you need to get the old started out without removing the steering linkage. Again thank you for making such a detailed video.
My bottom bolt had stripped AND the connector was broken and previous people who worked on it put silicone so I had to get a new connector. However this tutorial helped a lot, I used the same method, though for the stripped bolt I used bolt extractor, they come in 10-14mm ish which was good enough, however I was able to take out the starter without removing the steering racks, just gotta maneuver enough and patience. Thanks again
Thank you for the video. Very helpful. Genuine Lexus starter on order for my 2008 is350 w/ 168k miles. Will be attempting this myself in the very near future.
Good job man you walk through the entire job and point it out the sticking points this was a big help the only thing I do different is I take the seat belt and wrap around the steering wheel that keeps the clock spring from turning but overall you nailed it
Great video sir it helps me a lot thank you,Just missing the part when you put it back in there the starter electric wire can be plugged into the starter after secured the starter bolts is more easy thank you again for this video is the best on you tube.
Need help, lol you did your job in an hour but I’m struggling to get my daily up so the bus ain’t helping… so I took off starter, placed new starter in the area, but can’t wobbly the wobble of the starter into the whole where it’s supposed to go, got the battery cable in, and sensor plug in, but it ain’t going in, I think the down pipe has a metal heat shield on it which is blocking my solenoid on the starter from barely making that wobbly of a turn into place, people say awd and rwd are different but dang im sooo close, its my day off when the sun comes up any suggestions? Cuz the ending of your video when you put the cable on was great, i just needed the rest of the footage to help me out 😅😢. It great video 🎉
yeah I was working on mine today and that top bolt is something else, might try again tomorrow with a breaker bar and gotta make sure you apply force towards the bolt too so you don't strip. If I can't get it off gonna take it to shop before I really strip it.
Sadly this will not work for the all-wheel drive version. Have to go from the top, which involves removing several components including the alternator and exhaust manifold.

I can't get out the top bolt for crap. Great video regardless. Stripped it pretty bad and now in a crappy situation.

Best one. Thank you
Have you replaced the starter in a 2009 AWD Lexus IS250? In my car, the starter is above the engine mount.
Thank you!
What a job like that run?
Nice job bro, maybe get some cardboard to lay on, or corrugated plastic from signs. Very comfortable
Lol 😆. Good idea.
How to remove it if it’s stripped?
perfect thank fothe info
What year is 250 is this?
Wish u was in SC Because my starter just gone out.
;)
miss ya big bro
Unable to get that top bolt off of. Stripped it. Did you use impact gun to remove it?
6 point socket ONLY.. You gotta make sure that the socket is all the way on the bolt so it can’t be crooked
Great job. Is this an AWD or Rear wheel drive?
At 2:04 you can see a front axle, so it must be AWD.
@BryanVukich it's rwd buddy. At 12:00 you don't see any cv axle.
Bro the best video thank you . This video let me know 1 thing that i wont be replacing the starter myself lol where are you located ?
Lol, it’s not too bad. Follow the vid and u will be fine. Get the right tools. Good luck 👍🏽

I didnt even have to take out the shafts to remove the starter and reinstall it lol
Did you have to take the engine mount off
No, u saw everything I’ve done on the video man
