A couple of dudes who wear black robes on stage and worship guitar amplifiers crafted one of the most transcendental, emotionally moving pieces of experimental music I’ve heard in the past decade. What a strange world we live in.
This might be the most beautiful piece that Sunn O))) ever created, the atmosphere, the hazy guitars mixed with the orchestra is something else. Chills. I don't think I could past on any of their works, but this is the BEST one SO FAR in my OPINION.
No, but I can see where it would. If you listen from a certain perspective it does seem to fit the notion that you've been through something terrible and survived, but it wasn't necessarily a happy ending to the story. The thing is you made it out and this is what you hear and you're a harder, wiser person as a result, if not a little bit damaged for the wear. You won't be the same from that day forward; but you're still alive.
It's as if you're in a cave during the transition from night to morning--towards the end the light trickles in, revealing the dew, moss, and life inherent in the abyss.
I'm glad many people don't know about this band, cause if they were famous the videos would be full of dislikes and coments like "wtf is this shit", "this is not music" etc. Some people just can't get their heads out of their asses, and think that if they don't have the capacity to understand something - it's necessarily bad. Well fuck them, this is a masterpiece.
I like listening to Sunn O))) when I study. It's kind of like white noise at times, and if i listen to more complicated music i get distracted. so thanks for the good grades, Sunn
@@spurqz It's certainly layered in a complex way, but I share Jordans experience - this is so much more effective as study background music than, say, a track by Animals as Leaders lol
An eerie yet sonically mesmerizing dedication to the late great Turiyasangitananda. The horn and harp at the end add a deeply affecting touch. “…Sometimes people put themselves so deeply into sound - so deep into it that they give up everything. It’s like they renounce everything at that moment just to live those moments of music…” (Alice Coltrane) I am compelled to agree, Alice. For within those brief 16 minutes, there was nothing else. Nothing but this sound. And it was enough.
you dont have to like it...i dont like it...but once you are in the mood, this ambience suits perfectly, you will figure out why its great...is it music? who cares...it really speaks to you when you feel like it...if you never find yourself like listening to this...then simply avoid...i listened to them twice in my life...two years ago and now...and sometimes i just need this to hear my inner state...and of course live experience is another thing that might make you 'like' them, in non conventional way...i never heared em live, but had some local weird band that noone understood why im into, and i never listened to them generally, but every time they had gig i was there in the front row..my two cents
I love it! Amazing music.
I love that psychedelic sound that takes me on a journey through another dimension; a sound that came out of the 60s and is exclusive to that era of transcendental meditation, experimentation and alternative ways of thinking !!
These dudes are on a whole 'nother dimension.Once I figured out & understood what the Soundscapes of Dimensions really are. This is a Beautiful Tribute to Alice Coltrane, the wife of course of The Epic John Coltrane. These albums you SEE The Cosmos/Astral Oceans/Ruins/ & Mountains. The same way Miles Davis & Coltrane transcended music into Spiritual Psychedelic Visions.SUNN O))) is a musical Astral Plane...
last night i was dreaming something pretty lugubrious with a bunch of fog and darkness, in a kind of village with no streets but grass and clone houses, while i was driving a car this song was like the soundtrack, and i shitted my pants and then i woke up, and i was hearing this song while i was awake, and i threw my headphones away, but then i thought, wait a minute, that was a real song while i was dreaming? and i putted it again, and i fell in love with this song
this is basically a carbon copy of In A Silent Way by Miles Davis from the revolutionary album of the same way from 1969. Just added a bit of Drop A fuzzed guitar.
Or a good vampire movie. Imagine dark , old rooms , empty streets during nightime , and our vampire character sitting somewhere feeling superior yet lonely
so me being a dipshit was like hey they look cool (I'm a slipknot fan just to put this into perspective) so i click and i listen..... lyrics??..... no? okay...... get any faster.... nope okay maybe not
i mean at least that one has lyrics and all...kinda nah its not bad and i appreciate it for what it is but really not my thing but i guess if your into this then you could equally say that about my music taste :)
Well you can call this piece of random noises nonconformist art all you want it's just empty as fuck there's nothing to it except "oh look at us we're so fucking original" LOL
Irakli Well it's a tribute to Alice Coltrane, the mother of avant garde jazz, which would imply influence from other non mainstream music. She used to face the same sort of criticism for her unconventional music.
Well thank you for the explanation I appreciate the effort however that doesn't make the actual "song" any better and it's not like this song is very different for the band. Everything else I've heard sounds pretty much like my grandma's refrigerator :) I've heard a lot about these guys and for the life of me a can not understand why. And I can't even say that it's not my cup of tea, no it's just utter garbage I don't see any effort or musicianship here. Recently 10k Radiohead fans applauded the band tuning their guitars mistaking it for new material this is that level stupid no way around it

What a strange world we live in.
Lucky you, you *get* to experience this.
Most people are busy with their lives & wont ever get the chance to hear something like this.
Whoever's idea it was to place an ad in the middle of this masterpiece deserves to be fired
'masterpiece' LoL. Roll over Beethoven.
@@antihebrew Fuck beethoven. Fucking loser didn't even have a Sunn Model T so what good was he?
@@JacobPadlock Hard rock is still rebellious and subversive, right?
Alice Coltrane was such an amazing musician and soul. She is missed.
Just flipped the record over to this track and the sun suddenly came out from behind the clouds. It was really special.
The gradual transition from a dark atmosphere to a light one in this song is seamless and very well done.
This might be the most beautiful piece that Sunn O))) ever created, the atmosphere, the hazy guitars mixed with the orchestra is something else. Chills. I don't think I could past on any of their works, but this is the BEST one SO FAR in my OPINION.
Haven't heard this in a long time. Such an eerie masterpiece
Does this track make anyone cry....not sad tears....or happy....just tears. Like a kind of relief....
Yeaaaah

I get that all the time from Sunn O))) cause it's just so overwhelming. It's like the best part
Yes, every time. And it's the best feeling. But it works only when you fully let go of anything else and just fully get immersed to the music
It's as if you're in a cave during the transition from night to morning--towards the end the light trickles in, revealing the dew, moss, and life inherent in the abyss.

This is wonderful. Beautiful and atmospheric and the way it builds up to the ending is lovely.
Everyone is saying what this reminds them of so here is what it reminds me of. Just a duel. Old fashion Western Duel. That’s it really.

Ticking away, a moment that makes up dull day...

I'm gonna take a not-so-wild guess and say that you spank it a lot too.
It is already addictive

Top song. (Saw them live last month (aug -16) ,they were amazing , I'll never forget it.)
Julian Priester, trombone, Stewart Dempster, trombone, Steve Moore, trombone, Josiah Boothby, French horn, Hans Teuber, clarinet.
