The only thing I'll say is that the Sunn O))) live experience absolutely shits on the 'listening to Sunn O))) at home on speakers / headphones' experience by light years. I discovered Sunn O))) kind of tangentially about a decade ago, but hadn't listened to much experimental / non-mainstream music at the time and thought that it was interesting but mostly unlistenable.
Years later, I saw they were playing in my city so I decided to buy a ticket and go alone (I couldn't think of a single person in my life that would want to go see Sunn O))). The set was between 90 minutes and 2 hours, if I had to guess. I can't even explain everything that happened, the sonic wizardry that they've clearly spent a long time figuring out and getting all the gear necessary to achieve it, but I've only experienced the kind of stupefying experience through music / sound once before, seeing Swans live (and they played for nearly 3 hours). Wearing earplugs is a must, but it's not really your ear drums experiencing the crashing sound waves, it's your whole body. I feel like they're working with the sound waves themselves, either consciously arrived to this or through sheer trial and error, the difference seems irrelevant now.
The whole experience, apart from the sonic side of it, was surreal and otherworldly - the venue being filled with thick smoke, diminishing the visuals. the band members clad in dark robes, holding out their guitars as single chords would ring out for what seemed like minutes on end, an offering to the metal gods and for us as the viewers to genuflect upon. it would almost be laughable if the sonic fuckery wasn't so mind-blowing.
I became a huge, huge fan after seeing them live. What's interesting is that after about 30 minutes or so I found myself feeling incredibly relaxed, almost in a trance-like state. The overwhelming effect of the sonic assault was such that I couldn't really think, just be in the moment. Eventually, the drones and the overtones, the ghostly harmonics formed by the electric components transmitting the sound frequencies, became almost relaxing and comforting. About an hour in of just being rooted to my spot, I started swaying to shift my weight from one leg to another. This swaying enhanced the comforting and meditative state that the music put me in.
That live experience allowed me to appreciate the studio recordings a lot more after that, though of course they pale in comparison to the live thing.
I will also say that listening to Sunn O))) on high doses of acid, especially the 'warmer' recent records - Life Metal, Pyroclasts, Metta, Benevolence - are incredibly good, almost orgasmic. I find that any music that brings to the forefront the electric elements of instruments (guitars and basses, mostly) as well as music that revolves around drones of any flavor, pair up incredibly well with the familiar feeling of LSD where you feel like electricity is coursing through you, seeking for avenues of escape.

Sunn 0))) is much, much more interesting as a concept and as an idea than as an actual band making music. Just to put an example the Melvins' 'Joe Preston' and 'Melvins' albums and especially the Magnificent 'Mirror Reaper' by Bell Witch make everything (or almost everything) Sunn0)))'s ever done seem just boring and unoriginal and pedestrian and silly and a chore to listen to. Just **my very personal opinion** .

I like them..... Listen to monoliths and dimensions. Or black one if your more into black metal. Idk, everyone prob knows this stuff. There's some unique and imo really good compositions throughout their discography. Maybe just finding individual songs by them you might grow on them. Obviously if you aren't in to them there's no obligation to try to get into them. But I'm a fan, so I thought I'd give a few mins to this. Much love
I did forget though. Mirror reaper is master class so I definitely agree there.
