Let me take you along to Ponta Delgada Airport (LPPD), Sao Miguel, Azores. A volcanic Portuguese archipelago located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, halfway between the United States and Portugal! Go whale watching, visit mount Pico on Pico island, thermal hot springs, Sete Cidades Lagoon, Terra Nostra Park and Lagoa do Fogo. To get the full experience, make sure to island hop from São Miguel to Santa Maria, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores and Corvo! More famous are Madeira, Porto, Lisbon and the Algarve, but the Azores are by far Portugal’s best-kept secret! A cockpit view approach and landing in a Boeing 737-800 on runway 30 in Ponta Delgado airport, located in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. The video shows what it's like to fly a Standard Terminal Arrival Route/Standard Arrival Route (STAR) in a Boeing 737 800 in one of the islands of the Azores, Portugal. Interesting facts, approach landing charts and actual call-outs and Boeing procedures were added to provide a sense of everything that is going on inside the cockpit during approach, landing and taxi. When it comes to Azores, No one can forget how Air Transat Flight 236 which was out of fuel & landed at lajes Airport. Great video Michelle. Stunning video across the approach .
They landed successfully because the military ATC on duty, made all the calculation and guidance to the pilot, otherwise would have been a disaster as the captain was preparing for a ditching.
Yes, indeed - an unfortunately and sadly also with much fewer Luck Independent Air Flight 1851.
This landing is on the island of São Miguel (Ponta Delgada). Air Transat 236 "landed" on Terceira Island (Lajes). We are nine islands :) This particular runway on the island of São Miguel is the third longest in the archipelago.

Beautiful! Been to the Azores many times while in the US Air Force. One time, was invited up to the flight deck on a C-141 for a landing. Awesome experience!

Really love your video's as i travelled so much in my former job in times when you would be in de cockpit for 10-15 minutes and loved to get the best views and chat with the Pilots regarding clouds and weather; learned so much!
