Just what I am looking for. My moss is out of control, and I own a clone one of those filters. I fear it could be harder for me as my aquarium has over a hundred baby guppies, and they attack the moss as I trim it.
Blooper video please bru lol
I tried different techniques with moss, and tried something similar, some times the trimmed part stuck in the hose....
Anyway, now I only glue moss on a removable objects , so when it's time to trim it I just take the wood or stone off the tank, trim it outside and I may glue some of the trimmed parts and then put back again inside the tank
Great tip!
Try the Eden 501 gravel cleaner. Same thing, but I feel like it’s a simpeler system and easier to clean after use. Sometimes it cost a few minutes to get the air out the system (just let it run), but when it does, it does it’s job very well!
Great suggestion!
Eden gravel filter doesnt ship ouyside the UK
it might be not a good idea to throw away the moss/plant into the sink..
Definitley stealing this trick, couldn't have been more timely. I've been putting off the maintenance of a new moss project for the very same reasons you highlighted. Just been looking around, and think I will try and adapt a cheap All Pond Solutions hang-on external filter. Thanks so much for sharing. 👍
Definitely make a video about that as well!
@@MJAquascaping Good shout! I can't wait for my moss project to be finished too, super excited for this one. It's definitley not been done before.....
Great video. What I find therapeutic is watching "you" do all the trimming. 😀 You do such a wonderful job.
Yay! Thank you!
Very cool idea! You can also spot clean sand or gravel vac the substrate with something like that without draining your tank water in between your regular maintenance. Imagine your goldfish did a massive poop and you don't want any guest to see it, so you can whip out the little vacuum, stick it on your tank and have your tank looking spotless in minutes! 😎
I've been using this trick for a few years to clean the detritus from the rocks in my saltwater tank
great video and hopefully can inspire others too!
I'm new to aquascaping (around 5 months), but I use this trick with my spare canister filter since I keep turtle in a tank,
the best part is you can use this trick anytime to clean all debris without wasting any water.
Proving once again that some of the best ideas are often the simplest. Very cool. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Very true!
What a great idea. Now I can trim my moss with no issue. Thanks a lot mate.
No problem 👍
That level patience while cutting the moss is well needed for this hobby.
I recently subscribed to your channel and I bench watched almost all of your videos. I gained a lot of knowledge from it. Thank you for uploading these videos. Keep doing what you do best.
Awesome, thank you!
The EDEN 501 is a filter that can be used as a Vacuum cleaner as well. By the way sometimes it can be sold like that. No need to do adaptation. It's a good idea anyway. Cheers
the ending is great!
Great trick here. I think I might make something similar with simple filter floss so I can vacuum away debris and waste in poor circulation areas. The junk is gone and I don’t lose water before I do my major/minor water changes. Your content is great but the bloopers are better than the content 😜😜
I've bought EDEN 501 Gravel Cleaner lately. The idea is the same and I'm really happy with the results ;)
Nice!
Good stuff, man! Appreciated you checking for any sucked up shrimp too. I'm going to try this. Don't stress that English is a second language. You are cool, Mark - I am embarrassed to know only one language (although, I do know a little Bahasa). I saw this too on Green Aqua, sort of.
Great hack! Thanks for sharing. I bet that vacuum would work well for quick sessions when you just need to remove extra food or waste! I can't wait to build my own! Also I loved the bloopers at the end haha
Love the out takes 😀😀
😁😁
The moss is starting to carpet in my tank as we speak! 🤦♂️
Great hack! Might go buy a cheap used external filter for this! Also the red tank is looking beautiful! Looking forward to updates.
The outtakes at the end were the best MJ!!! I’ll now always watch right to the very last second to not miss anything!! Laughed out loud! Great heck no, hick, no..hack! Yes! 😀
😁😁😁
very clever method, thanks for sharing...
Great idea. I've been thinking about something along the same lines. Thinking of creating a vacuum to clean bare bottom tanks by using a power head with a hose attached and some kind of collection bag full of filter floss, rather than siphoning water out of the tank
This is a great idea. I used it today with an old Finnex PX-360 for trimming Monte Carlo carpet.
Omg... definitely using this hack since I upgraded my old filter it's just sitting in the corner waiting for this video to be posted!
Great hack. Thank you for translating it from German to English!
Thank you for this video. Made moss trimming so easy
Love the blooper reel at the end!!!!! Fun little hack as well…thanks!
expensive way but duable for moss trimmings.. definitely copy-paste this technique! ty!!!!!
I've been thinking about making something like this for a long time. For lite surface gravel vacuuming. And vacuuming detritus off plants & such. I'm surprised that none of the major manufacturers have designed a device like this. I think it would be a popular seller. Maybe I'll suggest it to them & see if I can get something started ..
your energy is great. The information you gave is great ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
Good hack!
Maybe next time empty your filter in a fishnet and trow it away with the trash.
Then your sink pipe is nog growing full of moss :)
Or use the trimmings for a new moss project?
Absolutely love this👌
I had a similar filter lying around and had been struggling with maintenance, your video literally saved my life now I do it almost daily 🤣👍🏻👍🏻 Oh and I use it for water change too with longer pipes and just hang it there. 😃
PS: I didn’t suck the hose like your ending bloopers, I simply fill the pipe and filter full with water and turn it on haha
this is a great idea, and i love how it does not lower the water levels like siphoning... trimming HC cuba and montecarlo is also a pain in the butt, even though it floats, it seems impossible to get it all after a deep trimming
Keeping it real with the outtakes!!!!
Love swallowing some water 😂
Great hack! I love the natural look of moss but hate the way it takes over, I eventually end up tearing out huge clumps of it from the substrate!
Exactly! hate that so much!
I love the outtakes at the end!
😁😁
I really like this idea. I am for sure going to use it
Nice. A little mesh bag elastic taped to the outlet would work. Like an onion bag for sewage overflows
I've seen almost all of the Liquid Nature's videos, but I obviously missed this brilliant hack. 😂 I have some old Eheim Classic 2211 filters, maybe I will try to modify them to get a moss vacuum cleaner! Bussi und Baba (goodbye in Vienna)😉
That's actually a good idea. 👍🏽
Thanks!
Always watch till the end for the best parts 🤣🤣
Nice vacuum cleaner 👍🏻
Salut ,
Oui , cool !
😉😎
that was a great idea
It's very nice could be a little stronger suction but very nice, thanks for sharing with us.
Hi, and thanks for your videos as usual. I think I have another way to clean moss. It's using an Automatic Sand Gravel Cleaner with a Sponge Filter or sock bag attached to the outflow. I've ben doing this for years. The only downside is that the vacum motor should be completely immersed, but it depends on the model. You may have to add a small hose at the end of the inflow in order to have the same effect without the bulckiness of the filter. Cheers !!!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!
good idea 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love this trick because I love the look of moss but hate how the trimmings sink! I recently saw this same hack recently on green aqua I believe
Love the bloopers! LOL!!!
Cool idea. I'm guessing you have to trim a bit smaller pieces to make sure there aren't any clogs. Glad I stuck around for the blooper reel
Yeah preferably smaller pieces indeed
love the bloopers hihi, great hack, now i just use a small eheim but the intake is to small
don't think it will work with a oase hangon filter, maybe seachem dint try that one
Great outtakes!! 😂😂😂
The bloopers lol. Great video
You can add those long tubes from a syphon, than you can vaccuum the sand and gravel with it.
I might gonna do this, but i have seen a cheap knock off from this filter.
Gonna use that one.
Great video! I will have to try this method
You should!
Wow moss grows on anything? Can't even grow it on the rocks or even anywhere 😅
Can't wait to trim it like this. Been waiting for months 😅
master job
I will now make my own. I wonder if a quick disconnect on the filter inlet that could be swapped for a long pipe. Then use the prefilter on the biomaster to catch the moss. hmmmmm
was the link the issue ? didn't mean to push anything but an Eden 501 gravel cleaner is same style hang on that comes prepared :) which is the same thing Oase made not transparent and call a "filto smart 60"
Hi. I like your idea to trim the moss. Just a curious question since I don’t have a canister filter or else I would try it. Why can’t we just use the canister filter inlet directly to suck the moss?
Just saw the bloopers so.. 😄😄😄 Now.. i did use something similar, an external pump, connected to a prefilter. But i never thought i could use it for trimming moss. Thanks for the tip, it comes in handy for my next scape. String algae is a good candidate for this..BBA clumps, cyanobacteria maybe. The downside, spores will be released. But with an UV sterilizer for a few hours...should be fine. Right?
Should be fine indeed!
as for priming ... suck on the vacuum end and it will just fill up fine :) no need for a mess
Yeah why didn't i think of that 😂
attached it on to your glass scraper blade as well it should do the same results
Anyone else get scared about aquatic plants going down the drain and making a forest in the pipes or is this just me?
just bleach your pipe. bleach that shit
Nice
Hahahaa the bloopers just looked like you forgot how to speak 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
😁
great ending
Why did you not fill the filter through the lilly pipe by just sucking on the vacuum hose?
Good question! hahaha next time!
If the sucktion is just strong enorugh mayby it could be use to catch a lot of small snails in one go.
Hey MJ!
Gr. Jos
English translation;
How do you get rid of Staghorn algae?
Or a cheaper way is by getting a water pump and attaching both ends with tubing, easy water changes and easy vacuuming
Hey I think Mark said in the video he has had the Dennerle Scaper's Flow canister filter for awhile , so safe to say that his finances are safe & he should be earning even more from all.the Likes , shares , subscribers and hopefully a few new members who appreciate all the time Mark spent making his video ( in English ) !!! You should make a video with your cheaper pump so I can see how to make it Thank you Mark for the new & improved way to remove moss
Gave you the 1000th like 😉
Whoop! Thanks 😎
Why not just use a piece of tube/syphon whilst doing a W/C? You trim the moss which would go into a bucket and you control the syphon with your thumb over the end of the pipe. Seems like a simpler solution?
Do you have a link to that tank?
I just grab a clump of it between 2 fingers like the barber grabs my hair and snip, snip, snip. 😁 Done. I do let it grow a bit longer though.
You shouldn't dispose of aquarium plants and whatever is in them like that. Personally, i dry them out and use them to 'fertilize' my potted plants and even then I've had some of them grow in the pots from dried out cuttings.
Search for GRAVEL CLEANER FOR AQUARIUM EDEN 501 (Oase has shares in the company), looks like Oase Filtosmart 60 and it is a lot of cheaper :)
I've got one and it's realy great.
Yeah I've seen that one! Also a good option!
What haven’t I thought of this!?
You could make a decent gravel cleaner with one of them stuffed with filter floss and maybe use it as an algae scraper with a blade attached to the hose or just hold the inlet pipe close to the scraper.
Not bad.
Genious
Noticed you also had shrimp in the tank, aren't you afraid to suck up any baby shrimp?
Could you not just use a regular siphon into a bucket?
Unnfortunately it happened to me. The moss got in between our ground plants while we were pruning and I can't get rid of it.
What’s the diameter of the silicon tubing that needed for this mod?
I used 12/16mm tubing
It's a hang on the front filter 😂
Once you see it.... it seems so simple and obvious lol!
Can you help me on it 😅
Mark i left a new comment on your post that was 2 days ago
let me check!
how many dennerle scaper flows do you have 😂
Just two 😂
Greeat
The worst case is when the moss starts growing on other plants leaves
Great hack, but aquatic plants cuttings should never be released in the water system, but disposed of responsibly in the bin or composted. They are all potentially invasive and can ruin fragile ecosystems.
Arent you afraid the moss takes hold of your plumbing? Think its better to dumo this and aquarium water in the toilet OR do alot of "ontstopper" .
You could just send me the moss. It dies in my tanks. Dunno how I can kill the easiest plant out there.
Superhandig!
