- This week, we look at a bunch of different trains and railroads in the northern portion of California. We'll see passenger and freight trains as well as some museum operations. There's commuter trains, long distance Amtrak trains, Amtrak California, short lines, and major freight railroads in the high sierras. All aboard!

The nostalgia this video brings back is insane
Since 2016, the San Francisco Bay Area Rails are among the best of Northern California. I loved the Bay Area Rails because it's much better than the other railroads in San Diego.
What a great video. The mighty freight trains with 4,5 & 6 engines, to the sleek fast passenger trains.

5:37 4th loco is an Et44C4! I've seen 13 of them less than 18 months after they were built!
6:17 why are there superliners on Amtrak California trains? are they diner cars?

9:40 that must be really rare to have concrete ties on a shortline! Unless the trackage is for the SMART commuter train!

12:07 i can tell that the 4th loco is a teir 4 by the Numbers on the large radiator, and smaller logo! The trucks are already as dirty as the 3rd loco!

Mike, at 9:38 on the NWP, where is that location... i dont recognize it. Btw, SMART is supposed to start service in March or late spring, Ive heard both things. and it is going to be free until July 4th, if you were planning on a trip out to see it in service :)
Hey Scott, that is on the access road to the landfill in Burdell. And yeah, it'll probably be worth a visit to see SMART once it's up and running :)

I remember when I was supposed to go to Pine Crest Lake with my cousins, and on the way there, I saw a BNSF (I think it was a manifest) DPU with a locomotive with a warbonnet paint scheme.
