- Intimacy with God
Jesus Christ came to restore our divine relationship not establish religious practices
What the Bibles says:
1. Seek God with
All Your Heart:
Jeremiah 29:13 says,
"You will seek me and
find me when you
seek me with all your heart." This verse emphasizes the
importance of a wholehearted pursuit of God.
2. Abide in Him:
John 15:4-5 speaks of abiding
in Christ, likening our relationship to that of branches connected to
a vine. "Abide in me,
and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear
fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine,
neither can you,
unless you abide in me."
3.Draw Near to God: James 4:8 encourages believers, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." This implies that God is always ready to draw closer to us if we make the effort to approach Him.
4. Prayer and Communion:
Philippians 4:6-7 advises, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
5. Love God Above All: In Matthew 22:37, Jesus says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This command highlights the primacy of loving God in every aspect of our lives.
These passages collectively underscore the importance of seeking, abiding in, and loving God to deepen our relationship with Him.
Deepening your relationship
1. Prayer: Establish a consistent prayer life. Talk to God regularly, sharing your thoughts, concerns, and gratitude.
Philippians 4:6-7 : "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
2. Bible Study: Spend time reading and meditating on Scripture. The Bible is God's word and a direct way to know Him better.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
3. Worship: Engage in worship, both privately and with a community. Singing, praising, and acknowledging God's presence can deepen your connection.
Psalm 95:1-2: "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song."
4. Meditation: Take quiet moments to reflect on God's word and His presence in your life. This can help you feel more connected and attuned to Him.
Psalm 1:2: "But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night."
5. Service: Serving others is a way to experience God's love and share it with the world. Volunteer your time and talents in your community.
Galatians 5:13: "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love."
6. Fellowship: Join a faith community where you can grow and learn with others who share your beliefs. Accountability and encouragement from fellow believers can be very uplifting.
Hebrews 10:24-25: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
7. Obedience: Follow God's commandments and teachings. Living according to His will helps strengthen your relationship with Him.
John 14:15: "If you love me, keep my commands."
8. Gratitude: Practice gratitude by regularly acknowledging and thanking God for His blessings in your life.
1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
9. Spiritual Disciplines: Incorporate disciplines such as fasting, journaling, and solitude into your spiritual routine.
Matthew 6:17-18: "But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
10. Seek Guidance: Don't hesitate to seek guidance from spiritual mentors or leaders who can provide wisdom and support.
Proverbs 11:14: "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers."
Each of these practices can bring you closer to God and deepen your spiritual walk.
