LIVE NFL Week 18 recap: The playoffs are here!

- The playoff puzzle was mostly put together going into Week 18, but there was still one huge piece that needed to be put in place. The Lions dropped that piece into the puzzle on Sunday night, knocking off the Vikings to lock up the top spot in the NFC. All that's left now is to put a bow on the regular season, and point ourselves toward the playoffs. That's exactly what Robert Mays and Derrik Klassen do on this episode of The Athletic Football Show.

Derrik melting the hearts of all the Broncos fans by suggesting this might be a game. Thank you, sir, for giving me some hope
The Lions simply wear teams down over the course of the game. Appreciate your takes a lot, particularly of the game Goff had. Yes, there were two INTs but the Vikings made plays and one almost seemed like an arm punt with Jameson Williams pulling up on the route. But, a guy goes for 27 of 33 controlling the entire second half against a defense that gave up 30 points to only 2 teams all season, the Lions (twice now) and the Rams on Thursday night game after playing a slugfest against Detroit 4 days earlier, deserves big props for his play. Not sure why Goff has not been the front runner for MVP this season. Set all sorts of completion marks and accuracy marks for big chunks of the schedule, more TDs scored than incomplete passes thrown for a third of the games along the way, franchise records for wins and seeding. 4th most points scored of any NFL offense in history and Goff is not even in the discussion. Joe Burrow who is not in the playoffs and who played with a defense on par with what the Lions have had over the second half of the season gets huge accolades and the Ravens and Bills great QBs have been exceptional their teams do not have the number one seed in their conference. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were never penalized for being the best to do it as pocket passers. Why does Goff get continually dissed in the MVP discussions. The talk of talent or coaching surrounding him is lazy BS. Brady and Manning always had coaching and talent around them.
watching the Vikings beat down live last night was so much fun. Ford Field was loud as fuck
The Lions crushed the Vikings. They took over in the second half and the Vikings couldn’t hang. It’s that simple. The Vikings wrs couldn’t get open.
Fun fact about that Johnny Knox return: the ref that called that bullshit holding flag told Dave Toub years later that he shouldn't have thrown that flag. We finally got the redemption nearly 15 years later!
Robert, eventually im gonna need you to start furthering my aaron glenn as HC of the Saints narratives, please and thank you
We don't need a defensive HC! and if it is one you should go after Flores.
Zero talk about the Chargers who have a legitimate shot at winning this entire thing. That team is quietly building momentum and getting healthy, and their path to the AFC Championship is paved with extremely winnable games.
They're battling an injured Texans team and in the first two matchups with the Chiefs, they were missing both tackles + Derwin and Bosa (plus had an injured Herbert) in the first game, and then JK, Ladd and Dissly in the second game.
Herbert looks like the real MVP out there. This team should be talked about
lol stop it
@@26zzthe Chargers were 2-5 against playoff teams this year, and both those wins were against the Broncos who were the last team in (and likely would not have made it in if KC had anything to play for this week). They are the Packers of the AFC…good overall record, but they don’t have the firepower to take down the big boys.
The chargers are not legitimate contenders lmfao
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Bruh. The cardinals beat the chargers
As a charger fan the fact every other playoff matchup got a 5 to 10 min conversation and our matchup got 2 seconds and then Bengals talk makes me a tad salty 😂
You guys are on the right path. But what Aaron Glenn did was even gnarlier. It wasn't "Robber". It was a funky ass coverage built for JJ. A Safety playing the Deep ½ to JJ and a Safety in a ¼ drop away from JJ. It's similar but there is no Post Safety like in Robber. This was "Jefferson isn't beating us". Which begs the question, where was Top 15 WR Jordan Addison? Lol
robert how was that ravens game vs the browns meaningless? it was literally for the ravens to clinch the division. and with them being first game of the weekend they needed to win it. maybe you just slipped up but na man we can’t say that game was meaningless.
Did you not listen? The Browns were actively trying to lose. Therefore the game did not matter. It was a Ravens W no matter what. 🤦🤦🤦
@ did you watch the game? u think that defense was trying to lose? it’s only a W if you go out and win. players don’t tank.
@@kevincurnick😂😂 The Ravens needed to win that game.
I think what Robert was really getting at was that, if we're being honest with ourselves, we know there was as close to zero chance as is realistically possible that the Ravens were going to lose that game. Just my feel after working with the guy day in and day out for three years. Thanks for listening and being a loyal fan of TAFS! - Beller
@@TAFootballShow lol ‘what I think Robert was saying’ shut up
Robert "fake fan" Mays quote, "doesn't care about the Packers-Bears thing."
No surprise there.
Bears wins. That’s all you need to know
