- Hey AA residents, in this week's 3 minute talk, I answer the question in the title.
Before studying further, I advise that you do your research and pick a school and qualification that you researched. Also, apply to as many schools as possible.
All the best, don't forget to share and subscribe to my channel.

What made you choose to study a Bsc in Geology?
I loved geography as a subject in high school, I thought geology and geography were close to each other, but they are different.
Okay so like I mean no malice in this but what are you doing with all those qualifications now?
Heya, I’m getting my MSc so I can become a lecturer and researcher
Alright I get it, are you working now? Also what other opportunities are available once that is completed. Truth of the matter is sometimes folks don't have funds to further they studies, heck even money just to eat. So what I'm trying to get at is how do we open up the pool for financial opportunities.
I’m not working, I’m an MSc student. As for other opportunities that are available, well you could work in the Geohydrology field (at a mine, a consulting company, for government). The biggest challenge I have faced is the requirements, nobody is hiring graduates and if they are, they want them to be from specific places or have cars. Another thing in my field is that you have to have an honors degree, that is a minimum requirement, however, more companies are putting a Masters degree as the requirement for entry level jobs.
Opening the pool for financial opportunities can only be done by people with those finances, what we can do is have more conversations about the ridiculous requirements graduates face, because there is funding for undergraduate qualifications, so companies should hire more people with undergrad certificates instead of requiring people to have more qualifications. The point of this is so that working graduates can save up to hopefully fund their own postgraduate studies.
So you can't gain experience without having went to skool in your field? I always feel experience is key. People should know what they are getting to if they are going to spend money in exchange for the theoretical knowledge... This way even building a network is easier. This is just my 2 cents
You can get experience without going to school, however it’s not the path that a majority of people choose. It’s up to each individual
Hahahahahahahahaha not government funding being dodgy 😂😂😂
And the eye roll I did there 😏
