That was a mistake by the financial government since this box costs 19,99 euro. But of course they did not know yet the price of the box in 1971 so they are forgiven.
After listening to the entire repertoire, with a short pause somewhere between CDs 3 and 4, I have no words to describe this journey. I didn't know this composer, but what a master!!
A marvelous recording! It will become my first “go to” recording of Sweelinck’s keyboard music. Excellent instruments, performance, and recording. The organs provide variety and color, along with transparency and intimacy (which I often find lacking in organ recordings of this composer’s works). The harpsichord pieces, also well performed and recorded, provide a nice contrast and complement to those played on the organ. I also marvel at the benefit of using meantone tuning in keyboard music of this period.
I had a collection of his organ works and unfortunately donated boxes of my organ music when I moved across the country from one coast to the other. Now I’m having to repurchase some favorite collections. Sweelinck is one favorite. In college we sang his Psalms and I fell in love with his music. Thanks for this collection!
It is noteworthy that many Commenters laud our good fortune at being able to listen to the music of Baroque composers such as Sweelink during "these times.' "It was the best of Times, it was the worst of Times."
To have this edifying music at the touch of a key/screen is nothing short of a miracle. Thanks to Brilliant Classics for compling the works of this Dutch Master and his keyboard Masterpieces and the musician for having devoted the skill, device and understanding for us to feast our ears with. Truly remarkable.

@@ruperttmls7985 Yes Ton Koopman did it on vinyl but there is the purple box with other Dutch players. This release is very interesting and the price is extremely low. Good value for money if you ask me.
Brilliant music flawlessly performed. I only wish Brilliant Classics had indicated which selections are for organ and which for harpsichord in this video. Just in case a listener wants to focus on one or the other of those instruments.

@@Hjknbvgukj Fascinating compilation. I think he's less flash than Bach; less cluttered and ornamental. A few questions I'm pondering over- To what extent was Bach influenced by Sweelinck? Is this more of a pointer to Baroque rock/pop in general than the diminished 7th heavy rock of Bach?

This is the complete works so of course It is long.He is one of the best,i put this as my top 4 with buxtehude,Bach,böhm
