    I asked my friend for 4 gabapentin capsules (300 MG each)
    Because I would get anxiety every morning unless I have a drink. I took one capsule each morning for the next 4 days and by the 5th day I was fine. I am now 2 years sober and I know those 4 capsules worked miracles for me.

    It sounds hard to believe, but I had generalized anxiety and panic disorder my entire life. I had a serious mental health crisis back in March and when I went on gabapentin along with Lamotrigine, my anxiety completely stopped within a matter of days. I had suicidal ideation almost every day since I was a teen (I'm 51) and I haven't had a single such thought since I started the gabapentin. I don't consider myself anxious now. Also it cured my nighttime itching. Obviously my results are not typical.
    Overall it didn't make much impact on my alcohol consumption. It stopped me from self-medicating for anxiety, but then I started drinking more out of boredom and stress (not the same as anxiety). And also I just enjoy drinking .I'm not alcohol dependent (I can quit with no withdrawals or cravings) but I do sometimes drink more than I should. I've started naltrexone for that. When I know I'll be drinking, I take one and I don't enjoy alcohol as much so it keeps me in check.

      Vinnie...how are you? Gabapentin is not at all like benzos. The amount of perceived withdrawals is probably close to 20% -40% of users/patients that are stopping Gabapentin, as opposed to about 99% of benzo patients that report withdrawals after stopping. I just shared ( in the general reply) that my script about 7yrs ago was for something very similar to you (a mix of problems) at 600mg (1pill at 600mg, 4x daily, 2400total daily. Thats a bunch). It helped. A bit. Its not a narcotic. I stoped after 2 yrs and had absolutely no problems doing it. I reduced it one pill per about a week. Had no discomfort whatsoever! Took about 4 weeks. I was taking difficult anatomy/physiology classes at the time and remained one of the best 5 students of my class of 40+ ppl. I hope you're well.

      Yes yes, GABAPENTIN is amazing....it really makes WD tolerable and makes it pass by without too much dependance issues if any at all.
      But stay away from Pregabalin (lyrica)...
      If you need more info just let me know how much benzos you were taking.....
      Def give it a try, I thought it would be another CRUTCH, but when my WD's subsided, I didn't even feel like I need GABA anymore.....let me know bro, looking forward to the day when you are finished

      @@sean13 hi Sean, you are most welcome and we have each other's back against this benzo nightmare.
      Yes I took the dosages you mentioned, I can probably say I stay on each dosage maybe 3-4 weeks max. I thought I would need to go 4 weeks on each dosage but as time passed I needed less gaba since my WD's were almost gone. And they are pretty much gone now. I stopped April 25th, and doing great, never thought GABA would help so much. I am doing great and look forward to seeing you doing great soon too.
      Yes definitely grab some across the border, you will thank yourself. I have not tried Kratom or CBD, but I do smoke Indica weed on and off, that also helped tremendously.
      Definitely try Melissa extract also....but GABA and weed really helped. But weed alone would make me paranoid....but anyways the GABA is the trick.
      Good luck and keep me posted bro! Here for you

Had 4 terrible seizures when I quit drugs 6 years ago and don't want to go there again. I wonder if anyone knows if gabapentine is better than valium? Just to get some rest in my brain. I live in Thailand and everything is sold over the counter here. The only thing the pharmacists usually want to know is how much you can pay so whatever is lucrative... They will give you what they have. Valium is valium and there's no real surprises about that medicine but gabapentine? I'm not willing to stop taking something to relax at night right now. Can Gabapentin be used with Baclofen? Some psychiatrists are telling patients that it's either one or the other for AUD. Alternatively, is Baclofen better paired with Topiramate, especially in patients with cirrhosis and very severe AUD/severe anxiety/PTSD? What's Ria Health general position?

    • @RiaHealth
      @RiaHealth  5 років тому +2

      Using baclofen in combination with gabapentin is not simple and is generally not done routinely. There are lots of variables including the severity of the drinking, other co-morbid diseases and medications and the doses being considered. Like all complex medical management, in some patients, using both drugs in combination is reasonable and in others it's not a good idea. You should discuss this with your physicians.

      The hardest part of benzo withdrawal for me is the sleepless nights and pure exhaustion. Sleep deprivation causes withdrawal symptoms in itself! Gabapentin allowed me to sleep an entire night for the first time in 6 months. I highly recommend it, but I also highly discourage you from taking it daily and at doses above 100mg. No pills are meant to be taken everyday. None that are intoxicating, anyway.
      If you take gabapentin at doses of 600mg 2x a day, you shouldn’t be surprised that your brain becomes habituated to it. This society needs to stop acting like it hasn’t seen a million drug parables in cinema and acting innocent when they abuse drugs. ‘The doctor said it was okay”. Is not an excuse anymore...

      1. Start tapering slowly. 2. Use gabapentin for the worst nights without sleep, to sleep, only. 3. Never take more than .5mg xanax a day and never take it everyday. Nor every other day. 4. Switch to klonopin if possible 5. No drug will ever take away your chronic anxiety for good, you will have to do inner work to calm that. I recommend spending an hour with Ram Dass daily. • @RiaHealth
      @RiaHealth  5 років тому +3

      Hi Steve, that's a great question. Gabapentin is useful for both managing alcohol withdrawal and for decreasing drinking. Alcohol withdrawal syndrome occurs when people either initially stop or rapidly decrease their consumption of alcohol. Alcohol withdrawal is characterized by irritability, anxiety, insomnia, increased sweating, racing of the heart, shakes or tremors and, when severe, by seizures and confusion. Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) includes many of these symptoms but also includes symptoms of compulsive drinking with harm to relationships, work, social functioning and health. It can take many months treatment for gabapentin to decrease the compulsive, harmful behaviors, which is not really surprising because rewriting the brain is a slow process. We hope that makes sense about how gabapentin can help with both the withdrawal part of drinking, and also the AUD part of drinking.
