Dude. Judo is BJJ. They don't just practice tossing but after a toss they don't let you go. They go straight into a submission. I know a lot of people don't know that and I think it's because judo judo is really effective like extremely effective so you don't really see that many judo dojos out there because it's not easy to get accepted into it you want to guess why because it's extremely effective and deadly I mean look at it you know people think that BJJ is really effective and this and that but when you have a more complete style and this is where Jiu-Jitsu came from by the way The real judo is basically both it's put your ass on the ground and then submit you and it's over what are you going to do The toss alone will definitely discombobulate you by the time you come to you're tapping out cuz they already grabbed one of your limbs whichever one you give them or whichever one they grab and they don't let go as you can see in that video they instantly go for the arm or the leg or your neck but usually they go for an arm and they have many submissions same as jujitsu the same ones but it's so much more fluid when you first toss them and then go into the submission so that proves that it's more complete basically jujitsu is a Japanese heart but Brazilian jujitsu was basically you know like another person's version of the same art so they just modified it kind of like how Wing Chun has different Masters and they all teach a different style of Wing Jung the same same thing you know same thing with kung fu you know Bruce Lee made his own Jeet kune do style it's his own philosophy That's pretty much what Brazilian jujitsu is to their own philosophy but like all arts you know in the beginning when it's a mysterious it's very effective but once they figure it out you know the UFC's perfect for that like you hardly see BJJ Masters as champions anymore cuz once everybody is at least well introduced to BJJ and how to protect yourself from it it loses all its mystery and it's mystique and therefore it's not that easy to get somebody in the ground and keep them there now especially when you know wrestling is extremely effective against BJJ extremely because if you want to roll on the ground the last person you want to roll on the ground with is a wrestler just like a BJJ once they get a hold of you they're not going to let go and they're better at tossing you around than BJJ cuz BJ's not known for tossing but a judo is so if you ever see a wrestler go against the judo practitioner judo hands down because they're a combination of tossing which is similar to wrestling but better if you ask me of course you know wrestlers always shoot for the legs and so to BGJ practitioners but wrestlers are more effective at it they're much quicker they're stronger and all they need to do really is just grab you after that they'll they'll pick you up and BJJ practitioners aren't really trying to pick you up they're trying to grab you and take you down to the floor That's the only way that they can fight but a judo practitioner he can fight you standing up and he can fight you on the floor and he's more deadly standing up to be honest and they do practice some striking just like a taekwondo it's not just kicks they also have some punches but it's really just mainly about tossing you and they have many different ways of doing that and man they have some sweet some sweet flips man they come out of nowhere dude it's just a beautiful art and it's extremely effective

Any true BJJ black belt is absolutely well versed in Judo takedowns. You won't receive your black belt without that knowledge.
It's just a matter of time spent training one discipline vs the other. The judoka spends a majority of their time on nage waza and ne waza is often secondary (but I feel that's changing now). Whereas the BJJ practitioner focuses on their ground game, with less time spent on takedowns.

Judo is about reflecting and reacting as well as throwing and grabbing which can be executed extremely well if a single wrong movement is done by the opponent who’s pushing. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is about prone combat, as it specifies on dashing grabbing knocking and lockdown holding which if not dodged it’s a game over no matter if you’re a Muay Thai champion or done street fighting for your whole life, once you’re in a full on hold on the ground you’re done.

I can tell that the Judo guy was extremely good at bjj as well. He instantly defended any submission threat & executed the stm bar submission so perfectly, that most Black belt BJJ guys wouldn't be able to do the same. Perfect technique, setup timing, explosion, execution. If he was ONLY a Judo champion, he would've been submitted after the toss. That's why BJJ is so lethal in combination with wrestling or Judo & nowadays also striking only because top MMA guys are also extremely good at BJJ and wrestling. It's been over 10 yrs since people could dominate while being horrible in one of the main fight skills. Boxers or kickboxers lost the easiest vs BJJ specialists, and wrestlers would also loose, but since MMA always required striking due to starting on their feet, it was a little harder to beat a great wrestler who had great striking, if they can defend takedown and avoid for the fight to go to the ground. But that's two specialists so at first even best wrestlers lost easily without the ability to beat someone with striking, so they would take down everyone and when they faced a BJJ black belt, they got submitted right away. Thats why it's called MMA, even though certain skills are more effective and it also differs on weight classes. Heavy wright's are much harder to take down, so a viscious KO striker, only needs to be great at defending takedown and if he is the best with striking, he can be a champion. Similar to Francis N. In lighter Wright clases, when it's a lot harder to KO someone due to less powerful strikes, then the fightet requires to be a specialist in as many combat ways as possible.

He's may be skilled in BJJ, but I don't know that this is demonstrative of that. A throw into armlock transition is a very common one in Judo, often taught very early on, and he's probably practiced this hundreds or thousands of times in a Judo context. It varies country to country and club to club, but some places have more focus on groundwork in Judo than others. His BJJ experience may have helped him to control the situation better than if he did not have it, but it's certainly not a highlight from this match.

People greatly underestimate what being thrown feels like.
Even on a mat, you have to realize that Judo's throws aren't a system of force where the opponent beats you with the ground, every throw I can think of utilizes very similar logic to a submission hold.
A significant part of the energy that directs your body at the ground is generated by your OWN body, part voluntary and part reflexive, as you react to what is essentially a joint lock, and try to resist injury.
That's why when you hit the mat, it feels much harder than simply falling down from shoulder-height, because both you AND the opponent are applying momentum.

I started training judo when i was very young. So glad i did. I eventually trained in multiple other martial arts, including jujitsu, but i have to say my judo and boxing have stood the test of tjme and got put to use in real world scenarios.
I worked as a correctional officer, and those plus the krav maga felt the most applicable when being attacked by multiple offenders and having to be the agressor while also defending myself.
On planned use of force where we had to remove an individual or someone needed hand cuffing after a takedown, the jujitsu was often useful for compliance.
But much of it wasn't practical in the environment i worked in... and that environment often mimics the free world. Not often do you want to find yourself on the ground if there are multiple assailants. Judo throws and striking with excessive violence kept me alive to move on to a better career path.
