My beloved dragonflies, painted by you, Diane.... So careful and so delicate, just as dragonflies are. One can see you paint the nature of dragonflies 😍 What I particularly like this time, you draw the contours in pencil ✏️ although the fineliner suits your pictures wonderfully, I am glad that you use a pencil again. Then I had to smile because I also have such stubs 😆 it was again very nice to watch you create such a delicate picture, I enjoyed your video very much. And you know very well, what colours would suit dragonflies better than green and blue? Another small work of art in your incomparable style. So beautiful... And now everyone knows how you like your coffee, namely white 👍👍👍👍👍 and hopefully ice cold 😍 Diane, thank you again and again for sharing your videos. I find the techniques with splatters, blobs and background colours very effective. What you make of it is never wrong and you get a quick sense of achievement. The technique of colouring the background first, then painting the shapes on top, I learned from you and I love it very much. THANK YOU
Thanks Sylvia, for taking the time to write such wonderful comments. And for translating them from German into English! I know that must take time and effort. Thanks once again for you continuing support and encouragement. Thank YOU too.
These dragonflies are so graceful looking!I am going to give a try to paint a background first along with some dragonflies! Thank you for this wonderful painting.
This is really lovely. I agree with several of the other comments - I have so many ways that I could use a background like this & put "painterly" flowers, birds, etc and it would be very elegant. I am so glad I found your channel. I just love your style. Thank you
That's a great idea! Thanks so much for your comment, and I hope you enjoy giving this one a go. And the background is a relaxation in itself to create x
Another great tutorial that have the wheels in my head turning. I have days that I just want to play and paint ahead backgrounds is perfect. Using the watercolor pencil is perfect for these dainty ladies of nature. I need to experiment more with mine and this is the perfect painting for that. Thank you again Diane!
Have fun with that Ann. I did find it a good idea to prepare some backgrounds in advance, I'll have to do some more now I've run out and I'll try to put that on video too in case it's helpful to others.
These are just lovely! Ingenious use of the black watercolour pencil and your gorgeous prepared background--did I see a bit of gold added to the blue and red dragonfly? Yummy! Thank you so much for sharing your process!
You did! I think the whole painting could definitely take a bit of gold ink so I might do that later! It was a fun piece - hope you enjoy your version too!
Love this video! I never gave too much thought regarding painting dragonflies, but I can't get these beauties out of my head. Their wings are so defined and crisp looking and the colors perfect! I love the soft background color that you prepared ahead of time. I'm a bit of a broken record, as I keep saying how much I enjoy watching you paint, and how lovely and calming your conversations are, alongside Tamsin's stunning photography and soft music selection, but I feel the need to keep saying it because I want you both to know just how much I enjoy your channel. This too, has somewhat of a vintage look to me and I think makes for a lovely conversation piece in one's home. As always, I thank you both.
Hi Carolyn, sorry it too so long for me to reply to this lovely comment, which I appreciate greatly! We have been very busy just recently, and what with the new kitten arriving on our doorstep uninvited but welcome, there hasn't been enough time to reply to all the comments. The channel is getting much busier, which is great! I also appreciate your time when you make comments and I'm so glad that you enjoy what we are doing. It makes it all worthwhile. I particularly value your input as I know you are an avid UA-cam Artist and you have many channels you watch, so the fact that you enjoy our work really counts for a lot for me. Tamsin also is very happy to get feedback on what she does behind the scenes, it's often overlooked but is probably in importance equal to or greater than what I do with a brush! So happy painting and until the next time xxx
So pretty and painterly Diane, thank you. I could quite happily while away my time just painting experimental backgrounds! But I will have a go at these dragonflies - another to add to my ever growing list to try!
Thanks so much Rachel, so glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the background creation is a very fun and soothing way to spend a few minutes! No expectations at all! Have fun!
lovely I get mesmerised by your painting's I'm sure I can try to approach your wonderful ways may be in about 20 years thanks Diane keep it up cheers me up no end
This is very pretty, Diane. I think I’m going to do this for my granddaughter's 17th birthday. I think I’ll do all blues and add a bit of gold. I’m going to think about the background; I like all spatters with some of the spatters"smooshed," if you know what I mean! Thanks so much.
Great video Diane! Love red bush tea and found one at Tea Source called Lavender Berry that has the red bush, lavender and dried raspberries in it. It is now my favorite.
I love your art, Diane. You make it seem effortless and it always inspires me....makes me think I can actually do it! :) Discovered today that I can actually dip the tip of my watercolor pencil in the water to "draw" accents with the pigment.
